"I can't believe we still have to attend lectures after almost getting blown to pieces yesterday," Des grumbled, dragging his feet as we walked into the grand lecture hall of Class A. "You'd think a terrorist ambush would earn us at least one day off."
"Professor Corvin said the school is safe," Pearl whispered, clutching her notebook tightly to her chest. "But still, I keep looking at the windows expecting them to shatter."
"Just act normal," I said, sliding into our usual wooden bench near the back. "The more normal we act, the less questions people will ask."
I scanned the room. The lecture hall was already filling up with students, the soft hum of gossip filling the air. Most of the high-born students were whispering about the border attacks, completely unaware that the danger had nearly reached their own classmates.
But as my eyes drifted toward the front rows, I stopped.
