Chapter 34 - The Three Heroes Of The Ruined World Legacy

The dungeon grew quieter the deeper they traveled.

It wasn't empty. In fact, the silence felt heavier with every step, as if the ancient structure itself was watching them.

Their footsteps echoed through the corridor. Steel armor scraped softly against stone while steady breaths disturbed the stillness. Rio walked at the front of the group, her hand resting near the Crimson Bloodmoon. Ryota followed close behind, while the two corrupted knights trailed several steps back.

No one spoke.

It wasn't because they had nothing to say. Rather, there was a shared understanding among them. Whatever waited ahead was important, and they needed to understand it before they could discuss it.

Eventually, the corridor widened.

The walls changed.

The broken stone and cracked ruins that had defined the dungeon until now disappeared. In their place stood enormous murals carved directly into the walls. Ancient symbols stretched across the chamber, glowing faintly with blue-white light.

Ryota slowed.

"A mural?"

Rio stepped closer.

Her eyes carefully traced the carvings.

Then her expression changed.

"No..."

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"This isn't decoration."

She reached out toward the glowing stone.

"It's a record."

At the center of the first mural stood three figures.

The first was a young girl dressed in flowing robes. Her expression was gentle, almost serene.

Rio's eyes widened slightly.

"Lib..."

The name escaped her lips instinctively.

Beside Lib stood another young woman with long blue hair. She carried a staff carved from crystal-like material. Energy swirled around her body as if the world itself responded to her presence.

Rio studied the image.

"She can channel it..."

The mural shifted.

Light flowed through the carvings.

The woman raised her staff, and a barrier expanded outward. Countless people stood behind it, protected from an unseen catastrophe.

"She was their shield."

Ryota crossed his arms.

"That's kind of broken."

Rio ignored the comment.

Her attention had already moved to the next figure.

A blonde-haired young man stood with twin swords resting at his sides.

"Auram..."

The mural came alive again.

It showed Auram fighting countless enemies.

Knights.

Monsters.

Warriors.

Every battle added another piece of armor to his body.

A chest plate.

Gauntlets.

Shoulder guards.

Each piece appeared after a victory.

Each piece represented growth earned through combat.

"He became stronger through every battle."

Rio's eyes followed the images.

"He built himself piece by piece."

A tiny dragon appeared beside him.

Small.

Blue.

Bright.

It flew around Auram's shoulder during every scene.

Ryota smiled.

"Okay, that little dragon is actually adorable."

Rio remained silent.

Her attention had shifted once again.

The final figure stood at the center of a burning battlefield.

An older man.

Broad-shouldered.

Holding a spear.

"Girsu."

The mural showed forests consumed by flames.

Armies surrounded him from every direction.

Enemies charged endlessly.

Yet he never retreated.

Again and again he stood his ground.

Even as allies fell.

Even as the battlefield turned into a graveyard.

Rio stared at the image.

"He wasn't the strongest."

Her voice was quiet.

"But he refused to fall."

The mural showed countless bodies scattered behind him.

Knights.

Creatures.

Monsters.

All defeated.

Yet Girsu remained standing.

Not because victory was guaranteed.

But because he refused to surrender.

Slowly, Rio turned toward the spear knight walking behind her.

The same posture.

The same unshakable presence.

Even after corruption.

Even after countless battles.

He had never broken.

"So that's why..."

Rio murmured.

"You never gave up."

The spear knight said nothing.

He simply stood in silence.

That silence was answer enough.

Ryota looked between them.

"Wait."

His eyes widened.

"You mean that's actually him?"

Rio didn't answer.

She already knew.

The mural shifted again.

A small glowing figure appeared.

A fairy.

Tiny.

Bright.

Smiling.

"Lee..."

Rio said quietly.

The three heroes stood before her.

Listening.

Trusting.

Believing.

The next series of murals illuminated.

Battles.

Journeys.

Trials.

Adventures.

"The Seven World Legacies."

Rio slowly pieced the story together.

"So this is where everything began."

Ryota folded his arms.

"So these guys were the original party?"

"Yes."

Rio nodded.

"The first heroes."

They continued walking.

The next mural depicted a battle they immediately recognized.

The World Chalice Trial.

The phoenix appeared first.

This time Girsu's spear pierced through its wings.

The force of the attack shattered the ground beneath him.

The cerberus followed.

A massive barrier formed.

Lib stood at its center.

Its flames struck the barrier and were absorbed before being redirected outward.

The gryphon and unicorn appeared next.

Auram met them alone.

His twin blades moved in a seamless dance.

One strike flowed into another.

Then another.

By the time the sequence ended, both monsters had fallen simultaneously.

Rio's eyes widened.

"They cleared it."

She stared at the images.

"They defeated this trial before us."

Ryota let out a low whistle.

"They were insane."

No argument there.

The murals clearly showed their victory.

They had survived.

They had won.

But that wasn't the end of the story.

The corridor eventually opened into a massive chamber.

The atmosphere changed immediately.

The air felt colder.

Heavier.

Like entering a tomb.

The knights stopped.

Rio and Ryota followed their gaze.

One final mural stretched across the entire wall.

And everything changed.

At the center stood Lee.

The fairy.

She was smiling.

But it wasn't the same smile.

The warmth was gone.

Only something sinister remained.

Below her hovered the World Chalice.

Rio's heart sank.

"No..."

The mural began moving.

The chalice opened.

Darkness poured from within.

Corruption spread outward.

Not randomly.

Deliberately.

Its first target was Lib.

The heart of the group.

The core that held everything together.

Her barrier shattered from within.

Girsu rushed toward her.

He couldn't reach her.

Auram charged.

He was overwhelmed.

The small dragon screamed as corruption twisted its body.

The Knightmares changed.

Not corrupted.

Rewritten.

The images became increasingly horrific.

Lib was consumed.

Girsu fell.

Auram struggled desperately.

The dragon screamed in agony.

The Knightmares turned against their creators.

Ryota stared in disbelief.

"She did that?"

Rio's expression became ice.

"She never guided them."

A long silence followed.

Then she finished the thought.

"She used them."

The mural ended.

Not with victory.

Not with a final battle.

But with ruin.

The world lay dead.

Cities reduced to rubble.

No survivors.

No hope.

Only silence.

For several moments nobody spoke.

Finally, Rio turned toward Girsu.

"So this is how you were corrupted."

The spear knight lowered his gaze.

His grip tightened.

Then he looked away.

That was all the confirmation they needed.

Ryota exhaled slowly.

"So the fairy we saw..."

Rio nodded.

"It's her."

A brief pause.

"Or what's left of her."

Ryota glanced around the chamber.

"Then where did she go?"

The room appeared to be a dead end.

Stone walls surrounded them.

There were no exits.

No hidden doors.

Nothing.

Then Girsu moved.

He stepped forward and raised his spear.

With a powerful strike, he drove the weapon into the floor.

The chamber trembled.

Cracks spread outward from the point of impact.

Lines of glowing light raced across the floor like veins.

Then the wall ahead began to split apart.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

As though something beyond it had been waiting for them.

Watching.

Awake.

The moment the passage opened, everything changed.

Gravity collapsed upon them.

Not as a push.

Not as a pull.

But as an absolute command.

Rio's knees slammed into the stone floor.

Cracks spread beneath her.

Ryota crashed down moments later.

"GHH?!"

His entire body was forced against the ground.

Iron Steve scraped uselessly across the floor as his arms buckled beneath the pressure.

Auram fought against it for a moment before dropping to one knee. His twin blades dug into the stone as he struggled to remain upright.

Girsu lasted slightly longer.

Then even he collapsed beneath the force.

Rio clenched her teeth.

"Gravity manipulation..."

Every muscle in her body trembled.

Not from fear.

From pressure.

Above them floated a familiar figure.

Unaffected.

Untouched.

Lee.

The fairy hovered calmly overhead.

The soft glow surrounding her no longer felt comforting.

It felt cold.

Wrong.

Behind her floated another figure.

Lib.

Unconscious.

Her long blue hair drifted through the air.

A blackened staff pierced straight through her body.

Dark energy pulsed outward from the wound.

Spreading corruption.

Growing stronger with every second.

Auram's voice cracked.

"Lib..."

For the first time, raw emotion broke through his composure.

Girsu's grip tightened around his spear.

"You..."

Lee smiled.

"Don't look at me like that."

She tilted her head.

"This was always the outcome."

Below her, the Guardian Chimera raised all seven heads.

Elemental energy gathered.

Fire.

Lightning.

Wind.

Poison.

Light.

Shadow.

Earth.

All aimed downward.

At the helpless figures below.

Ryota's eyes widened.

"Rio!"

"I know."

Her voice remained calm.

But she couldn't move.

None of them could.

The gravity field held them in place.

Nearby, the Ancient Dragon spread its wings.

Energy accumulated within its throat.

A second attack.

Combined with the chimera's.

Unavoidable.

Lee raised a hand.

"End them."

The command echoed through the chamber.

The Chimera fired first.

A devastating storm of elemental destruction descended.

At the same time, the Ancient Dragon unleashed its breath attack.

Two catastrophic forces converged upon a single target.

The resulting explosion consumed everything.

Light erased the chamber.

Sound disappeared.

Then returned all at once.

Stone shattered.

Walls cracked.

The entire structure trembled.

For several seconds, nothing could be seen.

Only destruction.

Then silence returned.

Smoke drifted through the air.

Debris fell from above.

The Chimera lowered its heads.

The Ancient Dragon watched.

Lee smiled.

"It's over."

Then her expression changed.

Through the smoke, someone was still standing.

Ryota.

His HP had fallen to one percent.

His armor was broken.

Blood stained his clothing.

Yet his arm remained extended forward.

Still resisting.

Still fighting.

Behind him stood Rio.

Also at one percent.

Her breathing was ragged.

Her vision blurred.

Yet her grip on the Crimson Bloodmoon remained firm.

"We're still alive."

Ryota laughed weakly.

"Somehow."

Rio ignored the joke.

Her eyes remained fixed on Lee.

"So that's the truth."

Her voice was cold.

"You never guided them."

Lee's smile widened.

"Of course not."

There was no denial.

No shame.

"They were necessary."

She gestured toward Auram and Girsu.

"Heroes are predictable."

Then she pointed toward Lib.

"And power like hers is even easier to manipulate."

Auram struggled to rise.

"You used us...?"

Lee's expression became almost sympathetic.

"I gave you purpose."

Her smile sharpened.

"You gave me everything else."

Girsu's voice darkened.

"You destroyed the world we tried to protect."

Lee shook her head.

"No."

Then she smiled.

"I remade it."

The chamber fell silent.

Rio slowly exhaled.

"Ryota."

"Yeah?"

"We're killing her."

He nodded immediately.

"Yeah."

Before they could move, the gravity intensified again.

The floor shattered beneath them.

Their bodies slammed back down.

Harder than before.

Lee raised the World Chalice.

Black energy poured from its surface.

"You won't reach me."

Behind her, Lib's body pulsed violently.

The corruption spread faster.

Consuming more of her with every passing second.

"Not anymore."

The Chimera prepared another attack.

The Dragon followed.

This time there would be no miracle.

No survival.

No second chance.

Then something changed.

A faint glow appeared around Auram.

Small.

Barely visible.

His hand moved.

His broken swords began to shine.

Across the chamber, Girsu's spear cracked.

Then slowly reformed.

Power surged through both weapons.

Something ancient had awakened.

Something older than the corruption.

Older than the World Chalice itself.

Rio narrowed her eyes.

"Ryota."

"Yeah?"

"We're not done yet."

Above them, the World Chalice trembled.

For the first time since they arrived—

Lee's smile faltered.

Only slightly.

But it was enough.

And in that tiny moment of uncertainty, the course of the story began to change.
