Candice POV
The curtain fell closed behind Candice and the noise of the room disappeared.
Not entirely, she could still hear the faint movement of people on the other side of the fabric, the shift of a chair, the scratch of a quill, but it was muffled enough that this small curtained space felt like its own separate world.
Candice also hated the fact that the Regent, her future husband, had entered the infirmary and had chosen to stand there beside Sairis.
She had not been close enough to hear what they were discussing, but she could have sworn she saw Sairis smile at something his highness had said.
The sight infuriated her.
What the hell did people even see in Sairis that made them so drawn to him? She needed to fix this quickly, and she intended to do exactly that once Sairis was finished sorting out the royal examination.
There was only one way to put an end to this situation, and that was to dismiss Sairis from her service and send him out of the palace for good.
