Chapter 18 - What the Heart Hides

Sometimes…

people don't say what they feel.

Not because they don't have feelings—

but because they don't know what to do with them.

Swati and Abhi

The next morning felt lighter.

Not completely okay.

But not broken either.

Swati woke up slowly.

Her head still heavy.

But something felt different.

She turned slightly—

and saw him.

Abhi.

Still sitting there.

Head resting back, eyes closed.

He had stayed.

The whole night.

For her.

Swati kept looking at him.

Quietly.

Without waking him.

Because this…

this was the Abhi she missed.

The one who cared without saying anything.

After a few minutes, Abhi opened his eyes.

Saw her awake.

"You're up?" he said, straightening.

"Haan…" she replied softly.

"Better?"

"A little."

He nodded.

"Good."

There was a pause.

But this silence wasn't uncomfortable.

"Tum… ghar nahi gaye?" she asked.

Abhi smiled slightly.

"Nahi. Zarurat nahi lagi."

Swati didn't reply.

But her eyes said everything.

A Small Shift

"Kal jo bola…" Swati started.

Abhi looked at her.

She hesitated.

Then said softly—

"I'm not ready to answer."

Abhi nodded.

"I know."

"But…" she continued,

"I'm not saying no either."

That was enough.

More than enough.

Abhi didn't smile widely.

Didn't react loudly.

But inside—

something settled.

Something hopeful.

Priyanka and Aditya

In college, Priyanka was sitting quietly.

Thinking.

Aditya came and sat beside her.

"Abhi nahi aaya?" she asked.

Aditya shook his head.

"Shayad busy hai."

She nodded.

Then after a pause—

"Do you think things work out… if they're real?"

Aditya looked at her.

"They do. But not easily."

She smiled a little.

"That's honest."

"Always," he replied.

Their connection was growing.

Not rushed.

Not forced.

Just steady.

Aditi and Lavesh

In the corridor—

Aditi stopped Lavesh.

"I need to ask something."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Permission le rahi hai?"

"Shut up. Just answer."

He smiled.

"Okay."

She looked at him seriously.

"Kal jo bola… woh serious tha?"

Lavesh didn't joke this time.

"Haan."

Aditi stayed quiet.

Processing.

"And if I say I don't know what I feel?" she asked.

"Then I'll wait," he said simply.

That answer surprised her.

Because she wasn't expecting patience.

Ayush – His Silence, His Truth

Outside the classroom, Ayush stood alone.

Leaning against the wall.

Watching nothing.

Thinking everything.

Poonam's smile.

Her voice.

The way she talked to Upendra.

The way she didn't even notice him anymore.

He let out a slow breath.

"Why does it bother me so much…?" he whispered.

He had tried to ignore it.

Tried to act normal.

Tried to tell himself—

"It doesn't matter."

But it did.

More than he wanted.

"I was always there…" he thought.

"Phir bhi… usne kabhi dekha hi nahi."

There was no anger in his thoughts.

Just… a quiet pain.

He wasn't jealous of Upendra.

Not exactly.

He was hurt because—

he was invisible.

And that hurt more than anything else.

He closed his eyes for a second.

Trying to control everything inside.

But one truth stayed clear—

He cared about Poonam.

More than he ever admitted.

Ending Scene

Evening.

Abhi was about to leave.

"Main kal phir aaunga," he said.

Swati looked at him.

"You don't have to…"

He smiled slightly.

"Mujhe pata hai."

A small silence.

Then he turned to go.

But before he could—

Swati called him.

"Abhi…"

He turned.

"Thank you."

Just two words.

But real.

Abhi nodded.

And left.

Swati watched him go.

This time—

not with distance.

But with a feeling she was slowly understanding.

And somewhere else—

Ayush stood alone again.

Looking at the sky.

Hoping…

that someday—

someone would understand his silence too.
