Chapter 189: The Third Event Begins! Round One!
.....
"Excellent!"
Kanade's parents beamed with satisfaction. Following the discussion, they enthusiastically brought out a spread of food from the kitchen. Everyone chatted as they ate, during which her parents asked Seito more about his daily life and background.
Once the meal was finished, Seito helped with the dishes. After tidying up, he chatted with them for another half-hour before taking his leave with Kanade.
A short while later...
Sitting in the taxi, Seito couldn't help but sigh in admiration. "Your parents are truly hospitable."
"Hehe~" Kanade squinted her eyes and giggled, her small legs swinging back and forth on the seat. She looked incredibly happy. Seeing her like that, Seito found himself smiling along.
The two soon arrived home and promptly logged into the game.
The afternoon passed quickly as Seito and the others spent the time grinding materials on the 40th floor.
Now, inside the Grand Council Chamber behind the Snezhnaya Imperial Palace, Seito and the entire roster of Executives were gathered.
[Event Countdown: 20 Minutes]
Checking the timer, Seito noted, "The event is about to start. I wonder what form it will take this time."
"Let's just wait and see," Sora said, leaning back with his hands behind his head in a relaxed posture. "If we're allowed to, we can party up inside the game space, but for now, we just have to wait for the venue to be revealed."
Everyone was filled with anticipation, wondering on which floor of the God Domain this "Zenith Intelligence" event would take place.
"Exactly," Seito nodded.
The group continued to chat until the twenty minutes had elapsed.
[The "Zenith Intelligence" Event has officially begun!]
[Players will be randomly teleported to the event zone.]
[Event Duration: 48 Hours!]
[Leaderboards are now open!]
[Event Rewards Unveiled:]
1st Place: Mystery Gift Bundle.
2nd Place: Choose one piece of equipment to ascend to Divine Artifact status.
3rd Place: A wisp of Divine Aura.
4th – 10th Place: ...
As the event kicked off, everyone vanished simultaneously.
Whoosh—!
The world went black, and Seito felt a brief surge of dizziness. When he opened his eyes again, he scanned his surroundings. Countless players stood around him, but this wasn't any floor of the God Domain they were familiar with. Instead, it was a specialized zone they had never seen before.
The area was constructed from blue crystals, and the players were standing on a vast platform. Seito noticed a sleek watch had appeared on his wrist.
Suddenly, a massive screen descended from above. As the players looked up, the screen crackled with static before displaying an image.
[Round One: Rule-Breaking Means Death]
[Description: Each player is assigned one hidden rule. There are six rules in total. Players must identify all six rules without violating them and record them into their watches. Each player is granted three "Trial and Error" attempts.]
[Player Count: 10,000]
"Rules?" Seito narrowed his eyes and checked his own starting rule.
He found his rule was titled: [Lowering One's Head].
The meaning was clear—if he looked down, he would be instantly eliminated.
Pop!
Pop, pop, pop!!!
Almost like firecrackers, the heads of several players began to explode one after another! They were eliminated instantly. Seito began to observe the crowd.
In this first round, the fact that players started with one rule meant that the rules were likely distributed across the population—many people shared the same one.
Looking around, the player count was plummeting as people triggered rules they didn't know existed.
Seito observed two players who had died nearby. One player had reached out and touched the other, and both were instantly eliminated. Was the rule [Physical Contact]?
"Everyone! Should we exchange our rules?" a player suddenly shouted.
"Good idea! My rule is Lowering One's Head!"
"Mine is Frowning!"
"Mine is also Lowering One's Head."
"Mine is Running!"
Most players began to speak up. Their starting rules were largely identical. However, after all the talking, they only had three rules accounted for. They were still missing three.
Seito recorded [Frowning] and [Running] into his watch.
[Current Rules Recorded: 3/6]
Others followed suit. Just then...
Pop, pop, pop!!
Another round of eliminations sounded!
[Players Remaining: 3,629]
Seito quickly looked toward the direction of the deaths. Since the first three rules were now public knowledge, no one should have triggered them. These players died from something else.
"Did anyone see how they died?" a middle-aged man asked.
"It looked like they bumped into each other," a girl replied.
"Is the rule [Physical Contact]?!" another player shouted, realizing the possibility.
The crowd felt this made sense. Dying after touching? It had to be physical contact. Many players began recording this into their watches.
The next second, their expressions froze.
"How can it be wrong?" a player cried out in shock. The others looked as though they had swallowed a fly.
Seito remained silent. Luckily, he had let the others act as his test subjects; otherwise, he would have recorded it too.
But... those players clearly died upon contact. If "Physical Contact" was the wrong answer, what was it?
Seito closed his eyes, using his heightened memory to simulate the scene in his mind. The previous incident... a male player had reached out to pat a female player on the shoulder. The moment he touched her, they died.
Was there a detail he missed?
The two players were of opposite genders. He quickly scanned the other corpses—the gender ratios were similar.
Was the rule [Contact with the Opposite Sex]?
Seito raised his watch to record it. "Record rule: Contact with the opposite sex."
[Recording Failed]
"???"
Seito's expression remained neutral despite the failure. As expected, it wasn't that simple.
Wait...
"Record rule: Maintain Distance."
