After leaving Vermilion City, Ash and his friends traveled along the coastline until they reached another bustling port. Docked at the pier was an incredibly luxurious and magnificent cruise ship the S.S. Anne.
"Wow! What a huge ship!" Misty exclaimed in awe.
"This is the famous S.S. Anne. I've heard they host exclusive, lavish parties specifically for Pokémon Trainers!" Brock said, his eyes gleaming as he pored over a promotional brochure.
The three of them were filled with longing for everything the ship offered, but their excitement was instantly doused when they saw the exorbitant ticket prices.
"It's so expensive... there's no way we can afford this," Misty said dejectedly.
Just as they were hanging their heads in disappointment, two beautifully dressed "party girls" with sweet smiles approached them.
Ash's Aura Power instantly picked up on two energy signatures radiating clear malice and cunning.
"You three look like trainers with great potential! It just so happens we have some extra complimentary tickets. We'd love to invite you to the trainer party currently being held on the ship!" (Jessie in disguise).
"That's right, that's right! You wouldn't want to miss out on such a wonderful opportunity!" (James in disguise).
Ash immediately understood Team Rocket's intentions they wanted to gather trainers on the ship to wipe them out all at once. He sneered inwardly, but maintained a look of pleasant surprise on his face.
He gave Misty and Brock a subtle look; though confused, they trusted him and played along, acting delighted.
"Really? Thank you so much! We were just wishing we could go see it!" Ash cheered as he took the tickets. He decided to beat them at their own game, boarding the ship to see what Team Rocket was up to so he could deal with them once and for all.
Once aboard, they found a grand party in full swing. With gourmet food, music, and trainers with all sorts of Pokémon everywhere, the atmosphere was electric. Ash was soon swept up in the excitement and engaged in a battle with a polite gentleman.
"Butterfree, I choose you!"
"Go, my partner, Raticate!"
Ash commanded Butterfree, skillfully utilizing its aerial advantage and powder-based moves to defeat the gentleman's Raticate.
"That was a splendid battle," the gentleman praised. "Your Butterfree is exceptionally well-trained; its eyes are full of spirit. I like it very much." He paused for a moment before making a suggestion. "I don't suppose you'd be willing to part with it? I would be happy to trade my Raticate for your Butterfree."
"A trade?" Ash blinked, his expression turning serious. He shook his head without a second thought, his voice firm. "I'm sorry, sir. Butterfree is an important partner to me. He's family, someone who has been with me since he was a Caterpie. He is irreplaceable, and I will never trade him away."
The gentleman was taken aback, but seeing the unwavering resolve in Ash's eyes, he offered an appreciative smile. "I was out of line. You're right a bond that deep shouldn't be measured by a trade. It was my mistake, please forgive me."
Ash nodded and recalled Butterfree, his heart feeling even more certain about the weight of the bond he shared with his Pokémon.
Meanwhile, in a corner of the ship, the disguised James was being swindled by a shifty fish salesman. He ended up spending the majority of Team Rocket's operational budget on a Magikarp that was supposedly full of potential but, in reality, only knew how to use Splash.
As the party reached its climax, chaos erupted!
A large group of Team Rocket members, clad in their signature uniforms with the "R" logo, suddenly appeared and sealed off the venue!
"Nobody move! Hand over all your Poké Balls!" the leading executive shouted.
"It's a Team Rocket plot!" Ash reacted instantly, shouting at the top of his lungs, "Everyone, don't panic! If we stand together, we can drive them out!"
Encouraged by Ash, the trainers in the room found their courage and sent out their Pokémon. Ash didn't hesitate to send out Butterfree, Pikachu, and his other companions to confront Team Rocket.
"Butterfree, Sleep Powder!"
"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"
"Bulbasaur, Razor Leaf!" "Squirtle, Water Gun!" "Charmander, Flamethrower!" "Pidgeotto, Gust!"
Under the unified counterattack, Team Rocket's plan crumbled once again. The grunts were beaten back and fled in a panic.
However, an even greater crisis was looming. While sailing, the S.S. Anne was caught in a violent storm. The hull, already weakened by the storm's fury and the collateral damage from the battle, began taking on water. The ship was in danger of sinking!
The captain organized an emergency evacuation, directing passengers to the lifeboats.
In the chaos, an exhausted Ash, Misty, and Brock along with the Team Rocket trio, who were equally drained by their failed plan and empty pockets fainted or fell into a deep sleep in different corners of the ship, failing to board the lifeboats in time.
As the raging seawater flooded the cabins, the massive S.S. Anne, carrying the six unconscious people, slowly sank into the dark depths of the ocean...
