Chapter 21 - One small detail

The murmurs and the whispers faded the moment the doors shut behind.

I closed my eyes and forked my hand through my hair, trying to cool the rage building up in me.

I shouldn't have overreacted like that.

She was just making an innocent remark.

For a millisecond, I actually considered going back to apologize. But then I changed my mind and headed out to my car.

"Where to sir?" The driver asked, opening the back seat.

"To the villa." I answered without hesitation.

There was something there that could distract me enough to forget what just happened.

In the meantime, I allowed myself to drown in the ocean of memories from about 20 years ago.

"What happened in school today? You look gloomy." My mom questioned.

"Promise me you won't get angry." I responded.

"Hmm... I promise. Now tell me what's wrong." She asked again.

"I got into a fight in school today." I revealed.

"Why? Did the person provoke you?" She asked.

I smiled inwardly.

Of course my mom would never come to a conclusion without asking me for what happened.

"A boy in my class told me that dad was a cheater." I started. "He said that I wasn't my dads only son, so I hit him."

My mother stilled for a second.

"Is what he said true mommy?" I asked innocently.

My mother shook her head.

"You know that's not true, your dad loves you and I so much, he would never do that to us."

I smiled, feeling pacified.

"I knew it, he was just being a big bully."

My mom suddenly frowned at me.

"But... that's not reason enough to hit your fellow classmate."

"I know. I'm sorry mom." I apologized.

"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to, when you reach school tomorrow, you know what to do." My alwaysdotherightthingaholic mom said.

"Yes mom. Don't be mad at me." pouted.

"How could I ever stay angry at my dear Vince." She smiled. "One thing you should always remember is that you cant solve every situation with your fists."

"I'll keep that in mind mom."

"And what are you two whispering about?" My dads voice came through.

"Nothing dad." I answered, smiling.

"I see you've started lying uhn." He said smiling as he picked me up and threw me in the air before putting me down.

He pulled my mom closer to him before placing a light kiss on her lips.

"Stop it Al, Vincent is watching." My mom's cheeks reddened.

"So what? I'm training him down on how to properly treat his woman in the future." My dad smiled.

Recalling this with how things were now seemed rather comedic.

He was always on about teaching me how to properly treat a woman when he couldn't even stay faithful to his wife, my mother.

I had beaten up a poor boy for speaking the truth.

My father really was a cheater.

My father really had another son.

Alarico Russo

That two-timing bastard.

By the time i got to the villa, Daniel was already waiting.

"You got here pretty fast. Did you drop Adrian off?" I asked.

"I did. Mr Heather is already in your study." He informed.

I grinned internally.

I knew I could place my trust in Daniel, he always seemed to know what I wanted before I even spoke out.

"And also, the news about Mr. Voss and his daughters death has spread already. The whole industry is talking about it." He added.

"Good."

Our plan worked.

To everyone, Mr. Voss and his daughter- Selena Voss, died due to a fire outbreak in their mansion.

"I'm sure you want to meet Mr. Heather already." Daniel said and I nodded finally moving to approach my study which was on the second floor.

On entering the study, I saw mike leaning on my desk and Mr. Heather tied to a chair in the middle of the room and I was suddenly reminded of Selena.

I brushed off the thought and focused on the man before me.

Mike rolled over a mini trolley with a tray on top. "This should be enough."

I smiled when my eyes landed on the shiny silver metals glinting on the tray.

My men really knew me best.

Meanwhile, Mr Heather's face turned pale as a ghost when his eyes fell on the tray.

"Take off the tape, I want to hear him scream while I'm at it." I said.

Mike immediately came forward and peeled off the tape.

"Mr. Russo, I haven't done anything wrong. You have to believe me." Mr. Heather screamed.

I turned a deaf ear to his pleas as bloodthirst clouded my vision.

I took a tiny pin from the table and grabbed his left hand.

Id spare his right hand, after all he would be needing it for when he resumed work.

Without much hesitation, I shoved the pin into his index fingers nail.

"Argh." An estranged noise escaped his mouth.

I did the same to his thumb and pinky before returning the pin to the tray.

Next, I took a plier and finally got rid of his middle finger.

He stiffened and screamed in overwhelming pain.

The sound was deafening.

Honestly, I could have continued but I decided to go easy on him.

"Pass me the truth serum." I said to Daniel.

He took out a syringe and a vial from a case on the table and passed it to me.

I did the needful and extracted the serum with the syringe.

I took Mr. Heather's still pulsating arm and stabbed him with the syringe, making sure to empty its content into his body.

I should have used this method with Selena. If I had, maybe just maybe I would be one step away from destroying my mom's killers.

But the truth remained that I was still satisfied with what i already have.

I mean, I've been searching for this Mr. who knows for over 5 years now and I was finally getting useful leads.

I held Mr Heather by his collar to prevent his head from drooping as the medicine was already taking effect.

Just the Daniel phone chimmed and I turned to see him look through his phone before looking up at me.

"Vincent, I'm sure you would want to see this." He said bringing his phone closer to me.

It was a slowed footage of the booth Mr. Heather used.

In the footage, a masked man snatched a blood vial from the tray and fled.

"What are you insinuating, Dan?" I asked.

"Now check this out." He added.

The next footage was from another booth.

The same masked man snatched another vial and replaced it with the one with him before fleeing unnoticed again.

"I'm already aware that Mr. Heather isn't the mole. If he was we wouldn't find him out so easily."

Daniel raised his left brow.

"So you're saying Mr. Heather is just a scapegoat?"

I gave him a look that said 'exactly'.

"Plus, Mr. Heather was planted by my father to spy on me so he wouldn't be the mole. I added."

Daniels expression darkens a little.

"Then why are you torturing him?"

"Because he shouldn't be spying on me on behalf of my father." I said and turned to face Mr. Heather.

If there was one thing I preferred about Mike, it was his ability to refrain from asking questions, something Daniel clearly didn't have.

But Daniel was my bestfriend and that gave him the right to do so.

"What did senior Mr. Russo tell you to do?" I asked.

"He tol-told me to wa-watch over you, to m-make sure the empl-oyees didn't plan against you." He said.

I scoffed and let go of his collar.

Perhaps, the truth serum wasn't strong enough.

Alarico Russo was a beast in human skin.

If I didn't know him any better, I would have thought that he truly cared for me.

I sure he was just trying to make sure I wouldn't run his company to the ground.

Which I would've done had Russo corps. not been my mothers legacy too.

I had several chains of companies like Alans magazine under my name so I would be well off with or without Russo Corps.

"Calm down Vincent, go take a shower." Daniel said to me.

I nodded silently and headed for the door.

"Take him to the hospital."

Just as I opened the door to leave I saw my father standing right in front of the door.

"You really won't listen to me, uhn Vincent?"He questioned.
