"Are you actually insane?" Lina yelled at Amelie. "You want him to stay there? With those people?"
Charles looked just as horrified. "Amelie, he's already past his breaking point. Dylan practically assaulted him, Noel threatened him, his family threw him out, and your tactical solution is to send him back to the slaughter?"
Amelie didn't even blink.
The candlelight flickered against her dark lipstick as she leaned back lazily against the booth.
I kept my eyes anchored to the melting ice in my glass. If I walk away now, I run out of options.
My chest tightened. "She's right."
Lina blinked. "Wait, you're agreeing with her?"
Yes. Because I need this job. If I run now, I lose everything.
"I didn't say it would be easy," Amelie leaned back. "But they're not special."
I frowned. "Who?"
"The heirs."
Her eyes met mine. "Strip away the trust funds, and they're just badly trained humans."
