Imelda's POV

Alex's Office - same day as Jonathan was reading his mother's letter at home

"Imelda," Alex said, annoyed.

"Do you really have something or are you taking me for a fool?"

I knew he wanted to know exactly what I knew about Jonathan's mother, the one who survived the River massacre.

And now I knew this was no longer a casual question.

I knew he was looking for a particular clue he could use against Jonathan.

That meant I had to be careful about what I said.

"Jonathan's mother refused to claim her inheritance,"

I saw he was studying me.

"And how exactly can you prove that as the council declined it,"

"Well, it's obvious," I said.

"She disappeared after the attack, lived under a fake identity,"

"She deliberately stayed away from her inheritance,"

"And even left her only son in the care of a maid,"

"She could have told the maid to leave Jonathan to a family or a reputed jewelry customer,"

"She had her leave him at an orphanage,"
