Chapter 13 - Matilda

Adam's grip on Leyla's throat tightens as he gazes at William.

''Tic tac, William…''

William's breath hitches.

He had to act and fast… but he was still so weak…

He stares at him with wide eyes, before slowly and reluctantly bowing… pressing his forehead against the ground with a shaky breath.

''I'll do whatever you want… just, don't kill my sister.''

He would never forgive himself if she died before he could ask for her forgiveness… especially now that it would be his fault if Adam killed her…

Adam grins and lets Leyla drop to the ground.

''Attaboy.''

Leyla grips her dress' collar and takes several, shaky breaths. She genuinely thought for a second this was the end…

William clumsily scoots over her and wraps his arms around her.

''I got you…''

Leyla grips his shirt and closes her eyes.

Adam chuckles at the sight.

''D'aww… what a cute, little sibling relationship~…''

He runs a hand through his hair again.

''Don't forget, William. You're at my mercy now.''

William softly frowns up at him and holds onto Leyla a little tighter.

''What do you want from me…?''

Adam's smirk widens.

''I want you to awaken Moonlight.''

Meanwhile, in the ship…

The general's wife walked in the small room, brushing a hand through her short, brown hair.

''Artemis, I think I'm ready to talk about it—…''

Her eyes land on Capricorn.

She was swinging her legs on the table, as if it was just another casual day in her life. As if she hadn't killed a man, who had prayed to come back home to meet his children…

As if that man hadn't died the day of his children's birthday…

Those tired, and empty eyes started filling with fury…

She took a vase nearby and broke it to lunge forward.

''YOU MONSTER!!!''

Her eyes filled with another fresh round of tears.

''You KILLED MY HUSBAND!!!''

Capricorn didn't even flinch.

She just smiled faux-sweetly at the woman… because she knew that she wouldn't even have to lift a finger to calm her down…

The blond woman— Artemis— stepped forward and blocked the woman's path.

''Calm down, Matilda…!''

Matilda's blue eyes widen.

Seeing Capricorn in front of her angered and hurt her…

But seeing Artemis protecting this monster…? The person she trusted the most…?

Ouch.

That hurt much more than she'd like to admit…

She dropped to the ground, her gaze drifting away from them.

Artemis stepped forward and knelt down in front of her…

''Matilda…'' She cracked a small, reassuring smile. ''Capricorn is on our side—

-HOW CAN YOU SAY THIS?!'' She snapped.

Artemis leaned back in surprise.

''THAT MONSTER KILLED MY DAUGHTERS' FATHER!''

Capricorn raised an eyebrow and crossed her legs.

''Who?''

The woman abruptly stood up and held her weapon in Capricorn's direction.

''See?! She doesn't even remember!''

A tear rolls down her cheek.

''You should be punished for your actions… Your actions have consequences, you DEMON!

-Last time, I checked, I saved literally most universes.''

Matilda drops her weapon, taken aback.

Capricorn just glares at her and sits up on the table to look taller.

''I saved each and everyone of you through my immortal life. I could've destroyed everything with a snap of my fingers, yet I still chose your side.''

She laughs dryly and turns around to look outside the window.

''I'm the fucking Goddess of The Sun. I can choose if my rival gets a chance to leave the fight or not.''

She turns her head to look at Matilda with one, cold, yellow eye.

''Your husband would've died in a much more painful death if I hadn't killed him… And you should be happy. He gets to join Heaven sooner.''

She shrugs.

Matilda starts crying as hard as she can, all that pent up pain starting to leave her aching body…

Artemis slowly hugs her, allowing her to cry on her shoulder… because Matilda had never had that privilege as a child…
