SF Chapter 183: Photo
A few days later, Vanity Fair had invited several young actresses for a photo shoot.
They had chosen nine actresses who were shining at the moment.
"Beer Girl, you totally missed an incredible game," Dani, who had somehow managed to infiltrate the group, remarked to Hilary Duff, since she hadn't gone to the Super Bowl.
Hilary replied, "Unfortunately, I had some filming to do in New York, so I couldn't go."
"Ha, and I was wondering if it was because Lindsay was going too, and you two had a little bit-" Dani couldn't finish because Amanda pinched him.
"Don't be inconvenient, Dani," Amanda admonished him. "And what are you doing here?"
"Well, I found out that some pretty chicks were getting together for a photo shoot," he explained, "so obviously I came here!"
He started listing, "I have confirmation from Lexi, Mischa, Lindsay... and you two. Who are the rest, anyway?"
"They didn't tell us," Hilary said, shaking her head.
"The other girls said the same thing to me," Dani nodded.
"By the way, Hilary, I wanted to talk to you. I need your help, and in exchange, I'll give you something."
Hilary raised an eyebrow. "I'm a little afraid to ask..." she joked.
"Don't worry, it's very simple. You just have to watch a movie. And my payment will be a song!" he revealed.
Amanda chimed in again. "Oh, so you're asking her to watch Paranormal Activity?" She understood that he wanted Hilary's reaction to it, just like he asked hers.
"Yep," he confirmed and turned to the other blonde again. "It's a horror movie I made with my family that will be released next month."
"You wrote a horror movie?" Hilary asked, surprised.
"It was a movie I made because of my sis, as a gift," he explained. "We're not putting my name on the movie for now..."
The blonde nodded, understanding why. "Okay. I don't have a problem with that."
Then Hilary tried to understand the second part. "A song? Doesn't your girlfriend want to be a singer? Why would you give me the song?"
"And your songs can be... a bit explicit for my taste," she said, a bit embarrassed.
"That's the thing!" Dani gestured. "Prudence didn't like the song. Absolutely not her style. I don't even know how I wrote it..."
He made a face. "It's girly. Goody-goody. Good vibes. Ugh," Dani grimaced at his own song.
Then he changed his expression, now looking like someone who was trying to scam a kid. "It's called The Climb, by the way. You're gonna love it! It's perfect for you!"
Amanda was holding back her laughter while Hilary narrowed her eyes. "Did you... just insult me?"
"No! Of course not!" Dani promptly denied. "I insulted the song."
He paused. "Which I'm giving to you."
Now Amanda laughed. Even Hilary was chuckling in disbelief.
"God, you're the weirdest friend I have," she fake-scoffed. "But why do you think it suits me?"
He replied, "Because it's clean, inspiring, and sentimental!"
"Yikes!" he grimaced again, pretending to wipe himself off.
Hilary's eyes flickered. It's hard to argue back about something you don't feel bad about.
Two more girls approached the group. Mischa and Lexi greeted the other two.
"Oh, so he told you about The Climb?" Mischa said after briefly talking to Hilary.
"He sang it to us. It was very good!" Mischa remarked. "A song about struggles and how the journey matters."
"Ew," Dani exclaimed.
Then three more girls entered the studio.
"Dani?!"
He turned around and, for a brief moment, looked surprised. But he soon grinned. "Oh, if it isn't my favorite twin sisters! Mary-Kate, Ashley, I missed you two."
"Yeah, long time," Mary-Kate smiled, completely disguising any embarrassment she was feeling.
After they softly hugged him, Ashley asked, "What are you doing here?"
"Why wouldn't I be here? I-"
Before he could lie any further, Lexi remarked, "He just crashed the photo shoot."
Mary-Kate chuckled. "Typical Dani. That reminds me of how we met him," she said, gesturing between herself and her sister.
The other girls immediately became interested.
Mary-Kate was about to start telling the story, but Dani stopped her. "Wait a minute!"
"Uh, is that an embarrassing story, Dani?" Amanda smirked.
But he ignored her and walked over to the other girl who had arrived with the twins. "Nice to meet you. Dani Harper," he said, extending his hand.
"Raven-Symoné," the girl said, shaking his hand. "Good to meet you."
Then he returned to where he had been standing. "See, Mandy? Didn't your parents teach you manners?"
"You can continue with the story, Mary-Kate," he said with a smile.
She did. "It was our eleventh birthday. And this guy just crashed our party," she said, pointing at Dani.
Now Dani was getting several looks.
"What? Well, they lived in Beverly Hills, and it was kind of my neighborhood," he explained.
"And it's incredible. If you wear nice clothes, act confident, and stick close to a group of people, the security guards just assume you were invited."
"I didn't lie to get into the party. I was eleven. I thought they might be like me back then: the more, the merrier," he shamelessly remarked.
"And you were talking about manners to me..." Amanda gave him a 'really?' look.
He shrugged. "Oh, they taught me manners. I just didn't feel the need to follow every single one..."
But Dani abruptly turned his head. "And I just remembered that I was brutally rejected that night!" He made a face.
"We just said no," Ashley rolled her eyes.
Mischa frowned. "We? Did you just... confess to both of them?" she asked in a bit of disbelief.
"Of course, Mischa. What kind of man do you think I am? Look how great the two of them look together," Dani said.
"And I was eleven. I still had that whole 'find a wife' mentality. So not only did I confess, I immediately proposed to both of them!"
Ashley smiled. "I said no pretty quickly, but Mary-Kate took her time."
"Ashley!" Mary-Kate playfully slapped her sister's arm.
"I was startled. There I was, with a boy I'd never seen before asking me to marry him. And he even emphasized that he was proposing to both of us."
"But he made some funny jokes afterward, and we became friends," Ashley revealed.
They started to tell how they met.
