Victor called on a Friday morning.
Not a text. A call, which meant he had something he wanted Kendrick to hear in real time. Something he wanted to gauge the reaction to.
Kendrick answered on the third ring — long enough to be deliberate, short enough to be interested.
"Victor."
"Kendrick." The familiar warmth. Easy and practiced and not entirely false, which was what made it difficult to dismiss. "I heard you've been having an interesting few weeks."
"That's one word for it."
"Several words come to mind." A pause. "I won't take up your time with small talk. I have something you need."
"Tell me what it is first."
"Information about the Voss family's designation case." A brief pause. "Specifically about Cecily Marsh and the documentation she's been building."
Kendrick went still.
"You know about Marsh."
