When Ash was teasing his girlfriend, he completely ignored the boy standing to the side—Blue. This pissed Blue off, but for some reason, he had a gut feeling that if he interrupted them, that Houndoom would snap his neck. Staring at Ash's Houndoom, Blue furrowed his brows tightly.
A Dark-type Pokémon?
Blue found it hard to imagine anyone actively wanting to train Dark-types. From everything he had seen and heard, Dark-type Pokémon were widely disliked. Their chilling, terrifying aura made most people steer clear. Some Eevee trainers would even abandon their Pokémon out of sheer terror after they evolved into Umbreon. Because of this, Dark-types generally had a very poor perception of humans.
But now, Blue sensed something different. This mysterious masked guy had an incredibly good bond with his Dark-type Pokémon—a bond so deep it was almost terrifying. That wasn't something a normal person could achieve.
Houndoom stared silently at Blue, its eyes full of cold indifference. Blue's surprised gaze annoyed it, dragging up memories from when it was still a Houndour.
Back then, Houndour was despised by many. People hated them simply because of their vicious appearance, and they were constantly attacked by humans.
Just because it was a Dark-type. Just because it looked a bit scarier. Because of that alone, it was feared and chased away by countless people. Why? They were all Pokémon, so why were the others loved by humans, while Dark-types were despised? Carrying these thoughts, Houndour, having been chased away and attacked yet again, lay dying in the wild. It knew its end was near, carrying nothing but hatred for the world.
Yet, when Houndour woke up again, it wasn't dead. Instead, it was lying in a hospital bed. And sitting by the bed was Ash.
"You're awake? You were lying out there pretty weak. If we hadn't treated you in time, you probably would have died, so I brought you back. Don't worry, in the eyes of Nurse Joy, every Pokémon's life deserves respect. Nobody will attack you here."
"Wuf..." (Why...)
Though weak, Houndour desperately wanted to ask why. Why did this human save it?
"Meow, Boss, he's asking why."
"Ah. You're asking why? Because I think you're really handsome, Houndour. I want to catch you."
"Woof?"
That was the first time anyone had ever called Houndour handsome. It gave the pup a feeling it couldn't describe.
"So, Houndour, do you want to become my Pokémon? I really love cool, handsome Pokémon like you."
Houndour didn't know what to say. But Ash's words etched themselves into its heart forever.
In the past, all Houndour ever heard was monster, demon, bad guy. But now, it had heard praise for the very first time. Someone had called it 'handsome.'
After that, Houndour became Ash's Pokémon, embarking on horrifying, brutal training regimes with him. Houndour constantly pushed past its own limits, defying hell itself without an ounce of fear. Because...
I have already seen hell. Now, my only desire is to stay by his side.
Houndour was gone. Houndoom had arrived. It had returned from hell, using its infernal flames to incinerate every enemy standing in Ash's way, because...
I never yearned for heaven, but... please, at least allow me a place by his side. That is my ultimate goal!
Stared down by Houndoom, Blue's expression turned grim. He felt a deep sense of powerlessness, the kind that only surfaces when facing an invincible entity...
Damn it... just an executive, and he's this strong... Raticate's vengeance...
Thinking of his Raticate, whose time was running out from severe poisoning taken to protect him, Blue clenched his fists tightly.
I'm sorry, Raticate... I'm still too weak...
Feeling his own inadequacy, Blue was filled with frustration. During his first encounter with Team Rocket, Raticate's poisoning taught him the true meaning of cruelty. And now, this Houndoom was reminding him that he was still weak.
"Hey, what's on your mind, kid? Thinking about your Pokémon?"
Just as Blue was drowning in frustration under the immense pressure, Ash's voice rang in his ear. Blue suddenly realized the masked man was standing right in front of him. And his words...
"Are you thinking about your Pokémon?"
"It's you people! You people are the only ones I'll never forgive! Charizard, Flamethrower!"
Thinking of his Raticate, the thread of reason holding Blue together snapped.
What fear? What weakness? Right now, he only wanted to do one thing: crush this guy! Even if it was just for Raticate!
"This is for my Raticate!!!"
