Cologne stared at his unconscious Kommo-o, sighed heavily, and silently recalled it into its Poké Ball. Only now did he truly understand the warning his elders had given him.
"Cologne, even if you take my Kommo-o, it won't do you any good. A disobedient Elite Pokémon facing an obedient one yields completely different results. And do you really think cheap tricks will work? Trust me, they have plenty of ways to deal with you."
Now Cologne fully comprehended what 'ways to deal with you' meant. What the hell! Karen literally just casually brought a monster to help her! This guy named Ash could probably beat Karen herself!
Cologne knew that anything he said now was useless. Leaving immediately was the best way to salvage any remaining dignity.
"I have learned a lot from this battle. Thank you, Karen. Ash."
Hearing Cologne, Karen waved her hand dismissively. "Yeah, yeah, you're welcome. Remember to focus on improving your own strength."
Ash removed his mask and said, "Stop trying to be clever with cheap tricks. There are plenty of people out there who can put you in your place."
"Thank you. The fault was mine this time. Karen, I wish you luck in finding your ideal partner. Goodbye."
As Cologne and Nando led their group away, Karen smiled brightly. She hooked her arm around Ash and shouted toward the sidelines, "Dad! Are you satisfied now?!"
"...!!!"
To the absolute bewilderment of the crowd, a silver-haired middle-aged man and a woman stepped out with an entourage. Ash recognized the man—Karen's father, Evo, and her mother, Amy.
Evo walked over, looked at Ash, and finally let out a long sigh. "You figured it out, didn't you?"
"Yeah. Long time no see, Uncle. So, did I pass?"
"You did. With a Mega Evolution capable of matching a Mythical Pokémon, no idiot would reject you."
Glancing at the Mega Absol resting quietly by Ash's feet, Evo felt a profound sense of awe. Sure, he knew a few people who could pull this off, but they were all old monsters who had accumulated their strength over decades, and their Pokémon were riddled with hidden injuries. How old was Ash? And this Absol didn't have a single hidden injury on it.
"You two, come with me. Ash, have your other fiancées come along too. I'll have someone look after your underlings."
"Alright."
"To be completely honest, I was against this whole thing."
In a private reception room, Evo sat across from Ash, Misty, Suzie, Lara, and Karen, and bluntly laid it out. Ash knew exactly why.
"Ash, you brat, you're exactly like your old nickname—a wolf! I know damn well you have plenty of fiancées. And this girl, Misty, I bet she was traveling with you and you charmed her along the way, right?"
Hearing Evo's accusation, Ash smiled and looked him dead in the eye. "Father-in-law, I've always said I'm a bad guy. I would never let such wonderful women slip through my fingers. If I let them go, I'd be the biggest idiot in the world. Besides, I can afford to take care of them."
"... Damn it. It really pisses me off to marry my daughter to a punk like you... Spit it out! Back when you were running around causing trouble with Karen, was your goal all along to—"
Smack!
A walking stick abruptly cracked over Evo's head, and the patriarch of the Karen family slumped unconscious onto the table. The one who dealt the blow was none other than his wife, Amy.
"Rambling on and on, ignoring the main point. Alright, let this idiot sleep for a bit. He talks all that talk as if he didn't have his own harem."
Karen acted as if she hadn't even seen her mother violently knock out her father. Ash now had a pretty good idea who Karen took after. Seeing her dad unconscious, Karen could only ask her mom, "So, Mom, what did you guys actually call us over for?"
"Oh, nothing really. We just needed to inform Ash's family! You can't get engaged without telling the family, right?"
"Uh... Did Dad seriously ramble for half an hour without ever getting to the point?"
Looking at her unconscious father, Karen felt that her mom's strike was completely justified.
