Chapter 29 - Chapter 28The Bond She Started Touching

There are lines you don't cross.

Not because you can't…

but because once you do,

nothing stays the same.

[Isle POV]

I should have known.

Winning once…

wouldn't stop her.

It would only change her strategy.

Because people like her…

don't repeat mistakes.

They evolve.

And this time…

she didn't target me first.

She targeted…

what mattered most.

[Isle POV – Afternoon]

I was in the kitchen.

Going through small things.

Keeping myself occupied.

Not distracted.

Aware.

That awareness had become a habit now.

A necessity.

Then I heard it.

Soft laughter.

From the living room.

My child's voice.

Light.

Happy.

And hers.

Calm.

Warm.

Something tightened in my chest.

Not because they were talking.

But because of how it sounded.

Natural.

Easy.

Closer than before.

I stepped toward the doorway.

And stopped.

They were sitting together.

My child leaning slightly toward her.

Showing something.

"Aunt Mian, look!"

"I am looking," she said softly.

Her tone…

was different.

Not the one she used with others.

Not even the one she used with me.

This one…

was softer.

Almost… careful.

Like she was handling something fragile.

My child laughed again.

And something inside me twisted.

Because that laugh…

used to come to me first.

Not anymore.

I stepped inside.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

Both of them looked up.

My child smiled.

"Drawing!"

I nodded.

"Show me."

They hesitated.

Just for a second.

Then looked at her.

Again.

Always her.

"It's okay," Mian said softly.

And just like that…

they showed me.

A simple drawing.

Three figures.

Holding hands.

I looked closer.

"Who's this?" I asked.

"That's me," my child said.

"And this?"

"That's Aunt Mian."

My chest tightened.

"And this?" I asked quietly.

A pause.

Then they said…

"That's you."

But the way they said it…

was different.

Not automatic.

Not certain.

And that difference…

hurt more than anything else.

I smiled slightly.

"It's nice."

Because what else could I do?

[Isle POV – Internal Shift Extended]

This wasn't accidental.

This wasn't natural change.

This was influence.

Slow.

Steady.

Carefully built.

She wasn't just isolating me anymore.

She was replacing me.

Not completely.

Not visibly.

But emotionally.

And that…

was far more dangerous.

Because once that bond breaks…

it doesn't come back easily.

If at all.

[Husband POV]

He noticed it too.

Not clearly.

Not fully.

But enough to feel it.

The way the child leaned toward Mian.

The way Isle stood slightly apart.

The way the energy shifted when both were present.

Something felt… off.

Not wrong exactly.

But not right either.

He frowned slightly.

But didn't say anything.

Because he didn't know what to say.

And that uncertainty…

kept him silent.

[Isle POV – Evening]

I didn't wait this time.

I didn't observe silently.

I didn't step back.

I walked into my child's room.

Closed the door gently.

And sat beside them.

"Can we talk?" I asked softly.

They looked up.

A little surprised.

"About what?"

"About you," I said.

A pause.

Then they nodded.

I took a slow breath.

Choosing my words carefully.

Because this…

mattered more than anything.

"Do you feel okay?" I asked.

They blinked.

"Yeah…"

"Are you happy?"

Another pause.

"Yeah…"

Short answers.

Uncertain.

Not like before.

"Do you feel like… something is different?" I asked quietly.

They looked down.

Silent.

That silence…

said everything.

"Tell me," I said gently.

They hesitated.

Then whispered…

"You're different."

The words hit harder than anything else.

"How?" I asked softly.

"You don't… talk like before," they said.

"You're serious now."

Serious.

That word again.

And suddenly…

I understood.

In trying to protect myself…

I had changed.

And that change…

had affected them too.

"I'm still me," I said quietly.

They didn't respond.

Because to them…

that wasn't true anymore.

[Isle POV – Realization]

This was her move.

Not direct.

Not obvious.

But precise.

She didn't need to take them away from me.

She just needed to make me…

feel unfamiliar to them.

Distant.

Different.

And once that happens…

they move away on their own.

Naturally.

Without force.

Without guilt.

And that…

is the most effective way to lose someone.

[Isle POV – Night Confrontation]

I didn't wait for her to come this time.

I went to her.

She stood near the window.

As if she expected me.

"You crossed a line," I said.

No softness.

No calmness.

Just truth.

She turned slowly.

"What line?" she asked.

Her voice calm.

Too calm.

"Our child," I said.

The word slipped out naturally.

And for a second…

something in her expression changed.

Just for a second.

Then it was gone.

"I didn't do anything," she replied.

"That's the problem," I said.

"You don't 'do' things."

"You create them."

Silence.

Then she stepped closer.

"You think I'm taking them away from you?"

"I know you are," I replied.

She smiled faintly.

"No," she said softly.

"I'm just giving them what you're not."

The words cut deep.

Because part of it…

felt true.

And she knew it.

"That doesn't give you the right," I said.

Her eyes softened slightly.

"I don't need the right."

A pause.

Then she added quietly…

"I just need time."

Time.

That word again.

Always time.

Always patience.

Because she knew…

time was on her side.

Unless I changed something.

Fast.

But not recklessly.

Because one wrong move…

and I could lose everything.

Completely.

And this time…

there would be no coming back.

From anything.

Not from her.

Not from them.

Not even from myself.
