Hearing the sound of a bullet whizzing by, Mark reflexively jerked the steering wheel to swerve out of the way. The sudden movement caused the car he was driving to sway and skid, creating a deafening screech of tires on the wet road.
However, Mark deftly turned the wheel back to regain control of the car.
Mark wasn't intimidated. Instead of hitting the brakes to avoid it, he ducked his head as low as possible toward the steering wheel and stepped on the gas again. His car surged forward once more, this time slamming into the black vehicle's rear side, trying to force the large car to skid off the dirt road cutting through the abandoned industrial area, which was growing ever darker as night swallowed it whole.
Finally, the black car in front slammed on its brakes so violently that it drifted a long way across the muddy ground before coming to a stop right in front of a large, rusted iron gate.
