Mark gasped; the hopeful smile on his face slowly froze at the cold response from the woman standing before him.
However, reality is always far crueler than the delusions nurtured by a wounded ego.
Instead of reaching out to accept it, she brushed Mark's hand away, causing the plastic bag containing the medicine to slip from his grasp and fall onto the dusty pavement.
"Do you think I'd be willing to touch something carried by such filthy hands?" said Celine.
"Don't ever act like you know me. Don't ever act like you care about me! What you're doing is nothing more than a cheap act to manipulate my sympathy!"
"Celine, for God's sake, this isn't an act..." Mark interrupted.
"I'm sure you need it. You should know, I worked all night just to pay for this medicine."
Hearing Mark's explanation, a crisp yet cold, sarcastic laugh escaped Celine's lips.
