Mark didn't glance at Haelyn even once. His focus was entirely fixed on Seren, who stood motionless.
"Seren, come with me!" Mark ordered.
Mark didn't wait for an answer. He turned and strode toward their master bedroom.
Seren followed behind him. Her head was still throbbing, but her survival instinct forced her feet to keep moving. They entered the fragrant, cool master bedroom. Mark stopped in front of a floor-to-ceiling mirror, with his back to Seren.
"I'll be ready in ten minutes; Leo is already waiting. Get his things ready," Mark said without turning around.
Mark gestured toward the bed where a black suit and a dark silk tie lay. "Do what you usually do."
Seren stood frozen in the middle of the room. She stared at the suit and tie with a blank expression. But this morning, the routine Mark described felt like a foreign language. Inside her head, there was only a vast void swallowing up all those simple procedures.
