Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Pressure II

Goto narrowed his eyes, his gaze shifting between the two. "I still find it unbelievable that you simply 'found' yourselves there. My reports say you claim to have been transported via a rift in the Amazon. You must understand... that is a bit hard to believe."

Grimmjow's smirk widened, showing off his serrated teeth. Before he could snap back, "It is of no concern to us whether you believe it or not," Ulquiorra said, his emerald eyes remaining fixed on Goto. "What has happened, has happened. You can either accept the reality of our presence, or you can choose not to. The outcome remains the same."

The bluntness of the statement hit the room like a physical blow and Kanae Tawata, who had been watching the exchange with growing indignation, felt her pride flare. She was an S-Rank hunter, a member of the elite Draw Sword Guild, and she was standing behind the strongest man in Japan. To see these two strangers remain seated and looking down at them, to see them treat Goto Ryuji like a common petitioner was more than she could stomach.

"What arrogance," Kanae hissed as her hand trembled. Her mana began to flicker around her like a disturbed hornet's nest. "You both should show some respect. You are standing in the presence of Goto Ryuji. Being arrogant here is—"

BOOM.

Grimmjow who didn't move a muscle turned to look at her, the air in the room suddenly detonated as his spiritual pressure spiked with the violence of a thunderclap, a raw explosion of intent that felt like a physical weight smashing into the floor.

The azure energy flared outward in a brilliant, electric pulse again. The reinforced, mana-treated glass of the skyscraper behind him, glass designed to withstand hurricane-force winds and magical outbursts suddenly spider-webbed with deep, jagged cracks.

Grimmjow turned towards her slowly, a predatory grin splitting his face as his blue eyes locked onto Kanae.

"Huh? What was that, woman?"

Grimmjow's voice vibrated as a low growl that seemed to bypass the ears and strike directly at the skeleton. Kanae felt the bones in her chest ache as the sharp, stabbing pressure that made her lungs seize increased. She tried to respond, but the words died in her throat, leaving her choking on the very air she tried to breathe. The sheer, unadulterated malice in Grimmjow's eyes pinned her to the spot like a butterfly under a needle. Cold sweat beaded on her forehead as the pressure dug into her body.

'Shit.'

Reiji Sugimoto, seeing his comrade falter, grit his teeth and tried to step forward to shield her. But the moment he shifted his weight, his feet felt as though they had been encased in concrete.

'What the hell is this? My body... it feels like it's about to give out. My mana isn't even responding and it's, it's cowering in my core. Are these even hunters?'

Goto eyes sharpened and as he opened his mouth to reclaim the authority of the room, to remind these strangers whose house they were in, someone else beat him to it.

"Grimmjow."

The name was spoken softly, yet it cut through the azure turbulence like a blade. Suddenly, an emerald pressure surged forward without warning. It wrapped around the room. It was cold, absolute, and utterly hollow, enveloping Grimmjow's blue aura like a suffocating shroud.

Ulquiorra didn't look up from his seated position and was looking at kanae instead. He remained perfectly composed, his hands still resting on the leather armrests, yet the temperature in the room plummeted ten degrees in a heartbeat. The condensation from the hunters' breath began to mist in the air.

"Lower your pressure," Ulquiorra commanded with a flat monotone, "You are acting like a common beast, brother. We are guests here, however temporary. Your lack of decorum is... unsightly."

Grimmjow clicked his tongue and Instead of the azure flames going out as requested, they flickered more violently, lashing out at the emerald shroud as if trying to bite back. "They started it, Ulquiorra," he snapped, his eyes still locked on Kanae's trembling form. "Don't tell me you're getting soft for these people. They need to know their place."

Ulquiorra's eyes shifted. A tiny, pinpoint green spark ignited in the depths of his pupils.

The weight in the room suddenly doubled. The sheer density of the spiritual pressure was so profound that Goto himself was forced to take a heavy half-step back to keep his balance, his shoes scuffing the expensive carpet. Minoru, standing by the door, watched with wide, terrified eyes.

'Not again... Please,.'

"I said," Ulquiorra repeated and this time his voice echo with a terrifying, hollow power that seemed to vibrate from the walls themselves. "Lower it. Do not make me tell you a third time."

The standoff between the two Espada was a silent war of attrition that the architecture of the building was never meant to endure. Deep within the core of the skyscraper, the structural steel groaned and shrieked, a metallic protest against the localized distortion of gravity.

On the lower levels, the effect was catastrophic. In the middle of the busy training halls, dozens of B and A-rank hunters suddenly collapsed to their knees, clutching their chests as the air turned into a thick, invisible sludge.

"What… what is this?" one hunter gasped, his face pressing into the floor mats.

Down in the lobby, Atsushi and Ippei stopped mid-stride. Atsushi looked toward the ceiling, his eyes wide with a primal terror he couldn't name. "Ippei… are we under attack? Is this a gate break?"

"The pressure is coming from the penthouse," Ippei whispered, his voice trembling as he leaned against a marble pillar for support. "Is the Guild Leader… fighting someone?"

Then, as quickly as it had arrived, the crushing weight vanished. Across the building, those who had remained conscious gasped for air, while others simply fainted from the sudden decompression. In the halls of the Draw Sword Guild, elite warriors were left soaked in sweat, shivering from a phantom cold that had settled in their marrow.

Upstairs, the silence that followed was even more deafening than the pressure.

Grimmjow finally exhaled a breath of annoyance. The azure flames flickered out, receding into his skin. "Fine. Whatever," he muttered, turning his gaze back to the window, though his shoulders remained tense.

The weight lifted just enough for Goto to draw a full breath, though his heart continued to hammer against his ribs like a trapped bird. He smoothed his tailored jacket with trembling fingers, forcing his expression back into a mask of stoic leadership.

'Monsters,' Goto thought, his gaze fixed on the pale man sitting with such terrifying composure. 'The blue-haired one is too quick to anger, but the pale one, he's the one truly in control.

Ulquiorra inclined his head a fraction of an inch as a gesture that was technically an apology but carried no warmth in it, "Forgive the display. My brother is… impulsive, you were speaking, I believe."

Goto narrowed his eyes, re-evaluating every word he had prepared. "I'll be brief," he said, reclaiming his composure as a world-class negotiator. "I want you in the Draw Sword Guild. I can offer you wealth beyond your imagination, status that rivals world leaders, and exclusive access to the highest-ranked gates on the planet. You won't find a better offer in this country, or perhaps this world."

Ulquiorra stood up slowly, he tucked his hands back into his white pockets and walked to the window, standing beside Grimmjow. He looked out at the city of Tokyo, weighing the concept of a 'Guild'. He glanced at Grimmjow, seeing the silent agreement in his brother's eyes.

"We have no interest in being your soldiers," Ulquiorra said flatly, "The structure of your 'Guild' is a cage we do not require."

Goto's face darkened at the blatant rejection. His pride as Japan's strongest flared, but before he could speak, Ulquiorra continued.

"However… We are new to this place. As we have said, we were raised in the seclusion of the Amazon, training our entire lives and even before the gates appeared. We require information and access to these 'Gates' to test our own limits. While we will not be members of your Guild, but we will provide our strength when the task is worthy of it."

Ulquiorra turned his head slightly, his green eyes locking onto Goto's. "Consider us an independent entity that resides within your shadow. We will help when we deem the challenge necessary, and in return, you will provide the resources and access we require. We are an alliance, not an asset."

Goto looked at Reiji and Kanae, who were still visibly shaken, their mana signatures flickering unsteadily. Finally, he looked at Minoru, who gave a subtle, desperate nod. Goto knew he couldn't force them. If he tried to subdue them here, the skyscraper and likely the entire city block would be reduced to a crater.

"An independent alliance," Goto mused, a small, dangerous smirk playing on his lips. He was a gambler, and this was the highest stakes game he had ever played. "A high price, but for power like yours… I can accept those terms."

Ulquiorra nodded, "Then the debt of our rescue is acknowledged, we are settled. Do not disturb our peace unless the 'challenge' you bring is actually a challenge. Anything less would be a waste of our time ."
