Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Pressure

The black limo glided through the streets of Tokyo, Inside, Ulquiorra and Grimmjow sat in a silence.

While they were both of Asian descent, they were born and raised in the United States as orphans who had never once crossed the border. Their parents had left them enough to live comfortably, but never enough for the "unnecessary expense" of international travel. Seeing Tokyo's skyline for the first time was like a sensory overload. Even with their expressions schooled into masks of bored apathy thanks to their new body's emotional control, they both found the sight totally awesome. The way the skyscrapers seemed to challenge the heavens and the casual integration of magic into the tech-driven city was something they had only ever seen on a screen.

The limo eventually slowed and descended into the underground parking structure of the Draw Sword Guild headquarters. To both brothers, the building looked like a monolithic spire of glass and steel that screamed power. Literally. As they stepped out, they could feel the vibration of multiple strong presences humming within the structure. A literal hive of hunters.

High above, watching the car pull up on a high-definition monitor, Goto narrowed his eyes and pressed a button on his desk, his voice spoke through his secretary's earpiece as she stood by the private elevator.

"Keep the perimeter clear," Goto commanded with a sharp tone, "I don't want a single reporter or any outsiders knowing what's going on here. If the reports I received from Kenji are even ten percent accurate, these two are anomalies. I want them in our grasp before the Association even realizes they exist."

He stood up and looked at the feed one last time, at the pale one and the blue-haired one who walked as if they owned the earth.

"Inform Minoru to take them directly to the waiting room," Goto ordered. "And get me Kanae and Reiji immediately.o

The reports Goto had received via encrypted channel were bordering on the nonsensical. According to the data sent ahead by Kenji, his team hadn't just found these two men; they had been rescued by them. The details were jarring, they had strange mana signatures that standard sensors failed to register unless the individuals explicitly "brought it out," making them essentially invisible to the modern world's tracking systems until they decided to strike.

But it was the combat data that truly intrigued Goto. The effortless slaughter of an A-Rank Boss fusion, a creature Kenji insisted possessed the raw destructive power of an S-Rank threat. It was a feat that shouldn't have been possible without a full elite raid team. If these reports held even a grain of truth, Goto wasn't just looking at new S-Rank hunters; he was looking at assets capable of shifting the entire geopolitical balance of power in Asia.

Inside the elevator, the silence was so thick it felt physical. Minoru stood near the control panel, he had his eyes fixed on the glowing floor numbers as they climbed toward the apex of the spire. He shifted uncomfortably, feeling the heavy, silent pressure of the two men standing behind him.

"The Guild Leader, Goto Ryuji... he is a man who values strength above all else," Minoru began, his voice slightly strained as he tried to break the tension. "He is the strongest hunter in Japan. Please, for your own sake, try not to offend him. His temperament can be... difficult."

Grimmjow didn't even look at him; he simply let out a sharp, derisive scoff that echoed in the small space.

Ulquiorra, however, watched the floor numbers climb with a detached, clinical interest. He wasn't listening to Minoru's warnings. Instead, his senses were fanning out, piercing through the reinforced steel and mana-insulation of the building.

'This 'Guild' is a hive of concentrated energy. I can feel hundreds of small signatures buzzing like insects in the lower levels, but none possess the density of the ones waiting at the summit.'

He closed his eyes for a brief second, focusing on the singular, most potent spark in the building, the one that radiated with a cold authority.

'This 'Goto' is likely the apex of this organization,' Ulquiorra mused , I know Beru made quick work of him but I never thought his flame would feel this... finite.' It felt limited, like a candle burning brightly in a room with no oxygen.

Grimmjow, meanwhile, was vibrating with a different kind of energy. He wasn't analyzing anything and from the looks of it, he was anticipating. He leaned his shoulder against the mirrored wall, his blue eyes tracking the red light of the security camera in the corner with the intensity of a predator watching a trapped bird.

"Fancy box," Grimmjow muttered, "Hope the guy at the top is worth the ride.

The elevator doors finally hissed open with a melodic chime, revealing a corridor that looked more like a gallery of high-end corporate power. Minoru stepped out first, his movements stiff. "This way," he murmured, leading them toward a set of towering, dark-wood double doors.

He ushered them into a luxurious waiting area. It was less a room and more a lounge, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Tokyo skyline and furniture that likely cost more than a mid-sized apartment.

"Where's this 'Guild Leader' then?" Grimmjow asked while looking around for the man they were here to meet, "I'm not big on waiting."

"He is on his way," Minoru replied quickly, bowing slightly before exiting to alert the staff and returning back.

Ulquiorra didn't respond. He simply walked toward a leather armchair and sat down, his posture was quite relaxed. Externally, he was a mask of indifference, but internally, his mind was racing. 'Wow... this place is massive,' he thought, his eyes tracing the intricate crown molding and the expensive artwork on the walls. 'I didn't know corporate buildings could look this good on the inside. It's a far cry from the cramped apartments we grew up in.' Grimmjow was having similar thoughts as he leaned against the glass of the window. 'Man, these people really know how to live,' he mused, glancing at the sheer height they were at. All this glass and steel... it's like a different world.

Suddenly, both brothers simultaneously glanced over their shoulders toward the entrance.

———

Outside in the hallway, Goto was walking with purpose. He was flanked by the deadly Kanae Tawata and the stern Reiji Sugimoto. They were the elite, the peak of Japanese hunters, moving with the confidence of apex predators.

But as they reached the threshold of the waiting room, Goto stopped dead in his tracks. His hand, reaching for the handle, froze.

Even through the reinforced, mana-insulated doors designed specifically to contain the outbursts of S-Rank hunters, the air was beginning to warp.

Goto's eyes widened with the pupils contracting. He didn't see it with his eyes; he saw it with his hunter's instinct, a sixth sense honed by a hundred life-or-death battles. Two towering pillars of translucent, ghostly energy were bleeding through the wood. One was a cold, suffocating emerald that felt like the bottom of a frozen ocean; the other was a loud, jagged, electric azure that hissed with the violence of a thunderstorm.

The weight was so immense that the secretary following them let out a strangled gasp. Her tablet clattered to the floor as her knees hit the carpet, her lungs struggling to pull in air that had suddenly turned to lead.

"Sir..." Reiji whispered with a pale face and his hand instinctively gripping the hilt of his concealed weapon. He felt as if his heart were being squeezed by a giant's fist.

Kanae's mind on the other hand was reeling. 'What is this?' she thought, her teeth gritting as she forced herself to stand upright. It feels like the oxygen has been sucked out of the room. 'The atmosphere... it's being replaced by lead.'

Goto took a steadying breath, his face hardening into a mask of grim determination. He reached out and pushed the doors open.

The moment the seal broke, the pressure dropped on them like a collapsing skyscraper. The physical weight of the spiritual pressure was staggering.

Ulquiorra was sitting perfectly still in the armchair, his pale hands resting on the armrests. His emerald eyes didn't blink as they bored directly into Goto's soul, stripping away his status and titles until only the man remained. Across the room, Grimmjow stood by the window, his back partially turned to look at them.

Goto Ryuji, a man who had stared down the most terrifying monsters Japan had to offer, forced his muscles to relax. Schooling his expression into one of professional curiosity, he crossed the threshold.

"So," Goto said with a steady give despite the leaden weight pressing against his lungs. He moved into the center of the room, positioning himself with the authority of a king. "You are the ones who turned an A-Rank gate into a playground."

Grimmjow didn't even turn around. He stayed leaning against the glass as he answered the question, "Hmph. It was hardly anything interesting," he replied, his voice was dripping with a casual arrogance that made Reiji's jaw tighten, "Although it did serve to enlighten us a little bit on how things."

He smirked at then and turning slightly so his profile was visible. The newcomers couldn't help but stare. They noted the strange, bone-like fragment clinging to his jaw, a mask of some sort? Their attire was equally alien, stark white and aesthetically sharp, yet despite their keen hunter senses, they saw nothing of the hollow holes which was good, for they hadn't a clue how they'd have explained that to them, and to them, these were just incredibly powerful, eccentric men.
