Chapter 56: Pummelo Island & Lyra vs Drake
Lyra and the gang were now riding Lapras on their way to Pummelo Island.
"I can't believe that I'm finally on my way to the Orange League." Lyra said excitedly.
"How do you feel Ly?" Misty asked.
"Well Mist I feel great and excited." Lyra admitted.
"Since you told me that you entered the Indigo League a while back Lu and you are the winner." Tracey said, "This will your second League."
"That's right Tracey, it is." Lyra said with a smile. Suddenly the gang saw a large shadow figure flying across the ocean. "I wander that is." She said.
Tracey had a look through his binoculars, but he still couldn't make out what the shadowy figure was. The shadowy figure flew higher up into the sky and then flew away.
"I wonder where it's going." Misty said.
"I don't know," said Tracey, "but I do hope that we will see it again." The gang then moved on to Pummelo Island.
When the gang finally got to Pummelo Island, the first thing they did was go to the building where Lyra had to register to enter the Orange League.
Lyra took off her coat and fake glasses and undid her two low pigtails and put them in her bag. Misty suggested to do so when she leaves no-one would recognize her.
The receptionist scanned Lyra's PokéDex, Lyra keep her PokéDex just in case something like this happen and Four Gym Badges and soon Lyra was registered.
"Okay, Lyra Mew Light your match is scheduled at ten o'clock in the morning at the Pummelo Stadium." The receptionist said.
Lyra asked the receptionist where the Pummelo Stadium was. The receptionist showed the gang the way to the Pummelo Stadium.
The Pummelo Stadium stood on the top of a big hill, and it looked Roman coliseum style. There was a domed shape building next to the Pummelo Stadium.
The receptionist explained that the dome shaped building was the Orange League's hall of fame. Inside there were stone statues of some Pokémon, pictures of trainers with their six Pokémon and stone slates of prints from Pokémon.
"If a trainer wins the Orange League," the receptionist said, "not only would you win the winner's trophy but a photo you and your six Pokémon get to be placed in the hall of fame."
Lyra got really excited of thinking about being placed in the hall of fame.
"To win the Orange League, you have to defeat our head leader, Drake, in a 6 on 6 Pokémon battle."
"Wow a Full 6 on 6 Pokémon Battle, this is exciting." Lyra said happily.
Just them Tracey noticed a lot of statues of a dragon in the building.
"These statues are Dragonite." Lyra said.
"That's right," the receptionist said, "and I must warn you, Drake owns a Dragonite."
The gang was surprised by that.
"And because of Dragonite, Drake hasn't been defeated for quite a while. So Lyra I wish you good luck."
In Pummelo Stadium, the head leader, Drake, was looking at the sky in a bored state. "I wonder if there will ever be a trainer strong enough to triumph over us." He sighed. "I heard that Lyra Mew Light is going to be our challenger, I hope the rumours about her is true." The truth is a lot of Pokémon have challenged him in the past, but he had easily defeated them. So his wish was to have a challenger to not only give him a good fight, but also triumph over him.
Little did Drake know that he was being watched, Team Rocket was at Pummelo Stadium and was spying on Drake. They had heard about him being an owner of a Dragonite and they wanted the Dragonite for their boss.
"Okay so how should we do this?" James asked, "I mean we can't just nab Dragonite because of its strong strength."
"Your right James," Jessie said, "the only way we can beat is to defeat it first."
Suddenly they heard an announcement that someone was going to challenge Drake in a match tomorrow.
"That's it," Meowth said, "that challenger can weaken the Dragonite for us and then we nab it." Jessie and James agreed with that idea.
That evening, Lyra began to think which six Pokémon she would use in her battle against Drake.
"Lu better think carefully about this." Tracey said to Misty.
"I agree," Misty said, "especially since we don't know what Pokémon Drake uses, apart from Dragonite." Tomo was with Lyra and was watching herthink.
Then Lyra started to smile. "I've got it," she said, "I've chosen Raichu, Vena, Blasta, Chara, Salamence and Kirlia.
"I like that idea big sister." Tomo said. Tracey and Misty liked that idea too.
"It will be great to see Kirlia and Salamence in battle." Tracey.
"Yeah and I haven't used my new Pokémon yet so I decide to battle with them," Lyra said, "I'll have Pichu in as a back up." She trained with her six chosen Pokémon until it was time for bed.
The next day, it was finally time for Lyra to face off against Drake. Lots of people had turned up to watch the battle and all the seats of Pummelo Stadium were all full.
Team Rocket was sitting in the arena too and waited until the time was right for them to strike.
Lyra and Drake entered the Pummelo Stadium and started things off with a traditional hand shake.
"Welcome to Pummelo Gym Lyra," Drake said, "I've heard that you're the winner of the Indigo League." Lyra sigh, "You must be a very strong trainer to have gotten this far. Are you ready for this battle?" He asked.
"Yes I am." Lyra said.
The Referee explained the rules. "This will be a six-on-six pokemon battle," he said, "and after one opponent's three Pokémon is defeated, there will be a field change, which is when the battle arena is transformed into another battle arena. The challenger is allowed to switch Pokémon during the battle, but the gym leader isn't. Choose your Pokémon well and good luck to you both."
"THE CHALLENGE IS ABOUT TO BEGIN," the announcer, said, "WHO WILL WIN? DRAKE OR THE CHALLENGER WHO IS THE WINNER OF THE INDIGO LEAGUE, LYRA MEW LIGHT?"
The battle arena suddenly changed from a normal battle arena, to a battle arena with lots of rocks and a small pool, "THE BATTLE WILL FIRST TAKE PLACE ON A ROCK AND WATER FIELD AND WE WILL SEE HOW OUR CHALLENGER'S POKÉMON DEAL WITH IT."
Tomo, Misty and Tracey sat in the bench behind Lyra and wished her luck.
Soon a bell was rung, which meant it was time for the Orange League battle to begin. Drake sent out his first Pokémon, a Ditto.
Lyra knew about Ditto and its ability to transform into any Pokémon and copying their attacks after all she has one too.
"This will be interesting," Lyra said, "but even can it handle this. Raichu I'm starting off with you." She threw out a PokéBall onto the battle arena, which show a large electric mouse ready to fight.
"Ditto transform." Drake commanded. Ditto transformed into a Raichu.
"Let's test Ditto out shall we? Raichu use Quick Attack." Lyra commanded. Raichu ran at incredible speed that shocking Drake. Drake commanded Ditto to use quick attack too.
Then both Lyra and Drake commanded Raichu and Ditto to use thunderbolt. The thunderbolts collided with each other, like how electric wires collide with each other.
"THIS MAY TURN OUT NOT GODD FOR LYRA MEW LIGHT," said the announcer,
"A LOT OF TRAINERS IN THE PAST HAD LOST IN THE FIRST ROUND BECUASE OF DITTO. SEEING THEIR OWN POKÉMON'S TTACK BOUNCE BACK AT THEM MADE THE TRAINERS LOSE THIER COOL."
"Uh? They know nothing about my Raichu strength," Lyra smirked, "Raichu use Iron Tail." Raichu's tail turned white, and got ready to hit Ditto. Drake told Ditto to use iron tail as well. Raichu and Ditto were fighting each other with their tails like a sword fight. "All right Raichu shall we end this?" Lyra asked.
Raichu nodded, "Rai, Rai."
"Alright Raichu use Agility then Rock Smash." Raichu vanished in front of Ditto and appeared in front of it, hitting it with it fist that glow. Hitting Ditto really hard. Ditto transformed from Raichu back to its original form and fainted. Lyra won the first round.
"That was amazing," Tracey said, "I've never seen a Raichu move that fast before."
"Amazing how strong Raichu has gotten." Misty commented.
"Way to go big sister!" Tomo cheered.
"It was a really incredible way to defeat Ditto," Tracey said, "I bet Drake didn't see that coming."
Tracey was right, Drake didn't see that Raichu coming at all. Such incredible speed, he has never seen before.
Drake returned Ditto, "Both you and Ditto did a great job Lyra," he said, "but this next one will rock you."
Drake's second Pokémon was an Onix.
Lyra called Raichu back and sent out her Shiny Blastoise.
"Using Blastoise," said Tracey, "since a water type."
"Blasta use Bubblebeam." Lyra commanded. Blasta shot out a stream of blue bubbles from his mouth and sent them towards Onix.
"Onix use Dig." Drake said. Onix dug its way underground.
"Well this is interesting but Blasta knows." Lyra said, "Blasta use Hydro Pump and aim it at the hole." Blasta fired water from its cannons and aim directly at the hole.
Drake commanded Onix to return to the surface and to use bind on Blasta. Onix came out from the ground and as quick as a flash it wrapped its tail tightly around Blasta. Blasta was getting crushed by Onix's strong grip.
"Blasta use Withdraw and Hydro Pump together." Lyra said. Blasta withdraw into her shell and launched a hydro pump attack from inside of it shell and it hit Onix directly making it release Blasta. "Now use Water Pulse and Aqua Jet combination." Blasta fired a water orb aiming it directly towards Onix and she has water around itself and moved with the water pulse making it stronger with the aqua jet hitting Onix directly and making Onix faint in the process.
"Lyra is good." Drake said and returned Onix.
"That was amazing combination." Misty said, "Maybe I could use it too." She squealed at the thought of it.
Drake was getting impressed with Lyra's skills in battle and combining attacks together, even the audience were impressed with Lyra.
"Well Lyra you have defeated two of my Pokémon," Drake said, "but here's a ghost of a challenge." Drake's third Pokémon was Gengar.
"Hn. Who knows." Lyra said returning her Blasta back, "I like you to meet my Pokémon from the Hoenn Region." She tossed a PokéBall onto the field showing her Pokémon that white bipedal Pokémon that appears to be wearing a tutu. It has light sky blue hair that reaches down to its shoulders, and two red horns looking like hairpins. It has skinny light sky-blue legs with pointed feet and thin, white arms that have two fingers, appeared sparkling around it.
"Kirlia." She said gracefully.
"Kirlia lets do this." Lyra introduced.
"INTERESTING," The announcer said, "LYRA MEW LIGHT HAS SENT OUT A KIRLIA AND NOT JUST ANY KIRLIA ITS A SHINY ONE. A POKÉMON YOU CAN ONLY FIND IN THE REGION OF HEONN."
Drake commanded Gengar to use shadow ball.
"Use Psychic Kirlia." Lyra said. Kirlia eyes turned blue and then fired a light blue of energy at the shadow ball, making it fall apart.
"Okay Gengar go for Hypnosis." Drake said. Lyra knew that hypnosis would put Kirlia to sleep.
"Kirlia use Protect then Future Sight." Lyra said. Kirlia has a green orb protecting it from the hypnosis attack and her eyes glow using future sight. The audience was wondering what is future sight is even Drake was. "Your probably wondering what Future Sight is? You'll find out soon enough, Kirlia use Psybeam." Kirlia fired a beam of multicolours at Gengar, which hurt Gengar a lot.
"Gengar use Nightshade." Drake said. Gengar fired two darks purple rays from its eyes towards Kirlia.
"Counter it with Magical Leaf." Lyra said. When the nightshade and magical leaf collided with each other, it created a big explosion. After the big explosion cleared, Gengar and Kirlia was still standing, "Kirlia!" Lyra shouted.
Kirlia began to glow, her body grew bigger and taller with a lower body resembling a slim gown with a light sky blue underside. It has spikes on either side of her face resembling a masquerade mask. A red fin-like horn extends from its chest and a shorter more rounded horns and connects to its sleeve-like arms.
The glow dead down revealing a new Pokémon on the field.
"Gardevoir." She said in her new evolution with a bow.
The audience was amazed even Drake.
"You've evolve into Gardevoir!" Lyra said excitedly.
Gardevoir, the Embrace Pokémon.
The evolved form of Kirlia. Gardevoir will use all of its psychic energy to protect a trainer it has deep connection with.
"Amazing." Misty said, "And beautiful."
Tracey nodded.
"The match is not over Gengar use Shadow Ball." Drake said. Gengar launched a black orb at Gardevoir.
Lyra and Gardevoir stayed quite, "Its time." She said quietly.
The sky became dark and a larger amount of psychic energy was released from it hitting Gengar making it faint.
The audience was shocked on what just happen, Gengar fainted from an unknown attack.
"Future Sight." Lyra said, "Is a Psychic attack that enables to user to have an large amount of psychic released but it only activates after a couple of turns."
"I see you are indeed interesting." Drakes said and returned Gengar back.
"SINCE DRAKE HAD THREE DEFEATED POKÉMON FIRST, THE FIELD CHANGE WILL NOW TAKE PLACE." The
announcer said.
The rock and water field disappeared into the ground and then a sandy field took its place.
While the field change was happening, Lyra was relaxing on the bench with Tomo, Misty and Tracey.
"You're doing great big sister." Tomo said handing Lyra a bottle of water.
"I agree with Tomo," Tracey said, "only another three Pokémon to beat."
"How are you feeling?" Misty asked.
"Well Drake Pokémon are indeed tough," Lyra said, "but I feel great it nice to have a tough battle once in a while. I'm surprised that Kirlia evolved too."
Tracey, Misty and Tomo nodded.
After the field change was all done with, it was now time for the second half of the battle.
Drake sent out his Venasaur to the field and Lyra sent out Chara her Shiny Charizard.
"Chara let's do this." Lyra said.
"Charr!" Chara roared loudly in response.
"Venusaur use Vine Whip." Drake said. Several vines came out of Venasaur's back and went straight to Charizard.
"Chara dodge it with Agility then Fire Blast close range." Lyra said. Chara flew into the air dodging the vines that is coming and when is was close enough it released a kanji symbol fire and hit Venusaur directly. Venasaur got really hurt from the fire blast attack and fainted.
Drake returned Venasaur and sent out his fifth Pokémon, an Electabuzz.
Lyra returned Charizard and sent out Vena her Venusaur into battle.
The audience was amazed by her Shiny starter Pokémon she used. Not many people can find Shiny Pokémon or capture them.
"Venusaur a good choice," Tracey said, "because as its with grass type and electric attacks won't work."
Drake looked at the two Pokémon carefully. "I admit Lyra's Pokémon are surprisingly incredible. She has all the starters of Kanto that are all Shiny. As electric attacks won't work on Venusaur," he said, "I will need to attack another way. Electabuzz use Fire Punch."
"Vena Power Whip." Lyra said. Vena vines glow purple and striking Electabuzz directly hitting it on the leg and weaken it.
Drake told Electabuzz to use thunderbolt.
"Vena use Nature Ball."
Everyone was wondering what nature ball was.
Vena fire an energy ball with razor leaf and petal dance surrounding it beautiful hitting Electabuzz directly making it faint.
Drake returned Electabuzz and clung to the PokéBall clipped on the necklace round his neck.
"FOLKS HERE NOW COMES DRAKE'S FINAL POKÉMON, WHICH HE ALWAYS SAVES FOR LAST," said the announcer, "THIS POKÉMON IS THE REASON WHY DRAKE HASN'T BEEN DEFEATED FOR A WHILE."
Drake took the PokéBall off the necklace and tossed it. "My last hope, I choose you." He said.
Out came a draconic, bipedal Pokémon with light orange skin. It has large, grayish-green eyes and a round snout with small nostrils. A pair of long, thin antennae sprout from the top of its head, with a small horn set between them. Its striated underbelly is cream-colored, and extends from its neck to the tip of its long, tapering tail. It has thick arms and legs ending in three claws each. The leg joints are well defined, while its arms have a smooth, rounded appearance. Dragonite's wings are small relative to its body, with teal wing membranes.
Dragonite, the Dragon Pokémon.
The final evolved form of Dratini. This extremely rare and highly intelligent type is able to fly faster than any known Pokémon.
Lyra returned Venusaur back, "Your Dragonite is your strongest Pokémon." She said with a smile.
"That's right." Drake said.
"Rarrr!" Dragonite roared.
Lyra giggled and had a PokéBall in her hand, "Then I like to meet my strongest Dragon and Flying type just like Dragonite."
She threw the PokéBall into the air, "Salamence, show them your strength!" Her dragon appeared with a loud roar shaking the arena.
"AMAZING FOLKS." The announcer said, "THIS IS GOING TO BE A BATTLE BETWEEN DRAGON AND FLYING TYPE POKÉMON. WHO WILL WIN?"
"Dragonite use Ice Beam." Drake said. Dragonite fired a beam of ice from its mouth.
"Counter it with your Flamethrower." Lyra said. Salamence fired flamethrower towards the ice beam making it steam the battle field, "Salamence use Dragon Claw." Salamence appeared out of the steam and charging at Dragonite with dragon claw.
Drake commanded Dragonite to use dragon claw as well and the two dragon Pokémon was battling fiercely in the air with claws and throwing attacks at each other.
"I've never seen a battle like this before." Tracey said watching the air battle that is happening.
"Neither have I," Misty said, "we're looking at two mighty dragons battling here." The audience were going wild at this battle.
At this time, Team Rocket was watching the battle. "That Dragonite is stronger than we thought it was." Jessie said, "and with that Salamence there it going to be trouble."
"Should we nab it now?" Meowth asked.
"No, no, no," James said, "it's not weaken enough yet."
Meowth and Jessie understood that.
"Dragon Tail now!" Drake and Lyra both shouted. Dragonite and Salamence tailed glowed and hit each other sending a blast of shock wave in the air.
"Woh ~ Not many Pokémon can hold up to Salamence." Lyra said.
Drake smiled, "Same here with Dragonite." He said.
Both Pokémon landed back down. Dragonite was starting to panted while Salamence doesn't look exhausted at all.
Meanwhile Jessie and James were getting out of their seats in the stadium.
"Now?" Meowth asked.
"Now." Jessie and James answered together.
It was time for them to put their plan into action.
Lyra was just about to give Salamence an attack, when suddenly an air balloon appeared above the stadium. It was Team Rocket and quick as a flash they flung a net over Dragonite and Salamence. Team Rocket started laughing of capturing Dragonite and Salamence.
"With this Dragonite and Salamence, we will be unstoppable." Jessie said.
Lyra and Drake wasn't worried at all. "You know what to do Dragonite/ Salamence." They both said calmly. Salamence and Dragonite cut the net with its wing and then made Team Rocket blast off by slamming into the balloon and bursting it.
With Team Rocket gone, Lyra and Drake got back to the battle.
"Aerial Ace into Ice Fang." Lyra said. Salamence took to the air and attacked Dragonite with it wings and bit it on its arm making Dragonite scream in pain.
Drake was getting surprised by this, "Of all the trainers I've ever faced," he said, "Lyra is the best no the greatest of all." He looked at Dragonite it was getting tired, "Dragonite Hyper Beam."
Lyra smirked, "Dragon Pulse to counter." Salamence fired a light green orb from its mouth and it intercepted the hyper beam attack. Lyra knew that Dragonite couldn't more so it was her chance, "Salamence use Blizzard and Ice Beam." Salamence blew snow from its mouth and it hit Dragonite directly making Dragonite unable to move and the ice beam hit Dragonite hard. Dragonite was panting hard from exhaustion.
"Wow this is an awesome battle." Tracey said.
"Between two dragon types yeah it is." Misty continued on.
"All out battle." Tomo said excitedly.
"It's now or never Dragonite Hyper Beam once more!" Drake said.
"Salamence Hyper Beam!" Lyra shouted. The hyper beam that Dragonite and Salamence fired collided with each other creating a giant smoke on the field covering everything including the trainers. After a few seconds the smoke began to clear out.
On one side Lyra and her Salamence still standing strong like nothing has happen. And on the other side is Dragonite standing but panting heavily are a few minutes has past Dragonite couldn't keep up and collapsed on the ground with swirling eyes.
Dragonite fainted.
"Dragonite is unable to battle," said the referee, "the winner of the competition is Lyra Mew Light."
"AMAZING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" The announcer said, "THE CHALLENGER HAS WIN THE MATCH! WITHOUT LOSING A POKÉMON! AMAZING!"
"Yahoo!! Lu did it!" Misty cheered.
"They all did it." Tracey said.
"Hooray for my big sister!" Tomo cheered, with Growlithe and Pikachu cheering beside him.
Lyra walked over to Salamence and gave her a hug. "We did it Salamence a excellent job well done!" She said.
Drake returned Dragonite and praised it for a job well done.
Lyra and her Pokémon; Raichu, Venusaur, Gardevoir, Charizard, Blastoise and Salamence stood on the winning platform.
Drake presented the winner's trophy to Lyra, "Lyra," he said "you gave me the best battle I've ever had for ages. And you deserve this trophy. You're a great Pokémon trainer."
"It's all because I have great Pokémon who always try their best." Lyra smiled brightly at him.
The audience clapped and cheered for Lyra and her Pokémon one more time.
And so Lyra won the Orange League and earned the winner's trophy and earned a place in the Orange League Hall of Fame.
Lyra's hand print and her six Pokémon's prints were placed on a stone slab, with a picture of them all in front of it.
Lyra couldn't wait to get home and tell her mum and Professor Oak all about her adventures in the Orange Islands.
