Chapter 55:Kumquat Island
Sometime after winning the Trovita badge.
Lyra and the gang met a well-known fire fighter named Captain Aiden. Captain Aiden owned a bunch of Squirtle, a bunch of Wartortle and a bunch of Blastoise for his team.
The gang had even helped him put out a fire with their water Pokémon.
Now they had arrived on an island called Kumquat Island, where Lyra could obtain her fourth and final Orange League badge.
"Apart from having a gym," Tracey said, "Kumquat Island is famous for its luxurious hotels, beaches and hot springs."
"Oh I want to try them out." Misty said.
"Me too," Tracey said, "what do you say Lu?"
"I don't really mind," Lyra said, "but I would like to know where the Gym is."
"I can help with that." A voice said from behind.
A middle-aged woman with red hair. "I'm Luana. I am the manager of my own Luxury Hotel and the Gym Leader of Kumquat Gym."
Lyra was delighted when she heard that. "My name is Lyra," she said "and I wish to have a Gym Battle with you for my fourth and final Orange League badge."
"I will accept your battle Lyra," Luana said, "and we will have it tomorrow, and I propose a double battle." Lyra knew what a double battle was, it was then trainers had to battle with two Pokémon each. "So I suggest you four spend a night at my hotel."
Misty, Tomo and Tracey agreed to the offer right away, and Lyra had to agree too, she couldn't beat that.
Just then Lyra noticed that a Pokémon was standing next to Luana, it was an Alakazam.
Alakazam is characterized by its humanoid structure and large mustache. The female Alakazam has a significantly shorter mustache than the male. Its snout is long and thin, and it has long, ear-like spikes extending from the back of its head. It has brown armor-like sections over its chest, shoulders, forearms and knees, which cover its yellow skeletal body. There are three toes on each foot, each of which has a white claw. It wields a silver spoon in each hand.
Alakazam, the Psi Pokémon.
The evolved form of Kadabra. With the brain like a super computer, it possesses many different supernatural powers.
"I take it that Alakazam is yours?" Lyra asked.
"That's right," Luana said, "and my battling partner."
This meant that Lyra was going to face Alakazam in the gym battle tomorrow.
Luana led them to her luxury hotel. Apparently, it was not only her hotel but also where she held Gym battles. It had rooms where both Pokémon and their trainers could relax.
Luana offered the gang a night in her hotel's most exquisite suite free of charge.
Right now, the gang was enjoying the hot spring.
"So, Lu," Tracey said, "which two Pokémon are you going to use?"
"Well, I already decided on Shadow, my Gengar, since Ghost types work well against Psychic types. But I'm not so sure about my second one yet," Lyra said.
"Well, we already know that Luana's first Pokémon is Alakazam, which Gengar can handle," Misty said. "It's just the second Pokémon we don't know."
Lyra thought for a moment, then got an idea.
"I know," Lyra said, "I'll use Azumarill as my second Pokémon."
"That seems like a great choice," Tracey said. "Besides, we don't know what Pokémon she has, so we'll find out in tomorrow's battle."
Misty and Tomo agreed.
So it was decided that Lyra would use Azumarill and Gengar for her Gym battle with Luana.
The next day, it was finally time for Lyra's Gym battle against Luana.
"Well, Lyra, are you ready?" Luana asked.
"Yes, I am. I'm as ready as I'll ever be," Lyra replied.
Tomo, Misty, and Tracey watched from the sidelines.
"Just think," Tracey said, "if Lyra wins this, she can finally enter the Orange League."
"Yes, but we still don't know what Luana's second Pokémon is," Misty added.
Soon, the battle began.
"Alright, Lyra, here are my two Pokémon," Luana said, throwing two Poké Balls.
Her Pokémon were Alakazam and Marowak.
Lyra sent out Azumarill and Gengar.
"Wow," Tracey said, "Lyra made the right choice."
The battle began, and Lyra attacked first.
"Azumarill, use Icy Wind on Marowak! Shadow, use Dark Pulse on Alakazam!"
Shadow fired a dark blast, while Azumarill blew icy wind toward Marowak.
"Marowak, use Bone Rush! Alakazam, use Psybeam!" Luana commanded.
Marowak blocked the Dark Pulse, while Alakazam shattered the Icy Wind.
These two are a real team, Lyra thought.
"Shadow, make yourself invisible!" Lyra ordered.
Shadow disappeared.
"I think she's planning a sneak attack," Tracey said.
"Azumarill, Iron Tail!"
Azumarill charged forward.
Alakazam suddenly appeared in front of Marowak to protect it.
"Now, Shadow Punch!"
Shadow emerged and struck Alakazam hard.
"That worked!" Tracey said.
The battle continued intensely.
Lyra used strategy, baiting Marowak and coordinating attacks.
Azumarill's Water Pulse hit, followed by Iron Tail — Marowak fainted.
Then Shadow Ball and Bubble Beam struck Alakazam, knocking it out.
"Alakazam and Marowak are unable to battle! The winner is Lyra!"
Lyra hugged Azumarill and Shadow.
Luana smiled. "That was an excellent battle. I present to you the Jade-Star Badge."
"I finally got all four Orange League badges!" Lyra said happily.
While on the way to Pummelo Island, Lyra and the gang stopped on an island called Rinelo Island.
As well as taking a break there, Lyra saw this as an opportunity to train her Pokémon before the Orange League.
Of course Lyra didn't know what Pokémon the leader of the Orange League would use, so he decided to train her Pokémon and herself to get ready for it. She also decide to use the Pokémon she has caught in the Orange Island.
Right now she was having a jog with Tomo, Pichu, Pikachu and Growlithe.
Misty was fishing in the stream, to see if she could catch more water Pokémon.
And Tracey was sketching a wild Vileplume.
Right now the day was going well, but then trouble happened.
Tomo accidently ran into another wild Vileplume and that made the Vileplume quite cross.
Lyra and Tomo tried to apologize to Vileplume and explain that it was an accident, but Vileplume wouldn't listen
In anger, the Vileplume fired stun spore at them, making Lyra and Tomo paralyzed.
Pichu, Pikachu and Growlithe didn't get hit by the stun spore, Pichu got mad and fired a thunder attack making the Vileplume back away and ran.
Pikachu and Growlithe ran to Tracey for help, and when Tracey saw Lyra and Tomo paralyzed he brought them to the cabin that they were staying at.
The wild Vileplume, that Tracey had sketched, felt sorry for Lyra and Tomo and offered to help and Tracey accepted the help.
Soon Lyra and Tomo were in the cabin beds and being taken care of by Misty and Tracey.
"What can we do Tracey?" Misty asked, "we don't have any medicine for Mew and Tomo and we are nowhere near a Pokémon Centre."
Tracey thought for a moment. "There is something we can do," he said "we need to gather salveyo weed." He borrowed grabbed the Xtransceiver on Lyra's wrist.
Tracey started to search for something. "Here this is what salvego weed look like." He showed Misty them. "This plant can cure paralysis."
"It says on the Dexter that Poliwag feed on it," said Misty, "and the good news is I have my two Poliwags with me."
So Misty and Togepi left the cabin to look for salveyo weed, leaving Tracey, Vileplume, Pichu, Pikachu and Growlithe to take care of Lyra and Tomo.
Misty went to the lake, where she was fishing earlier, and released her Poliwags. "Okay Poliwags," she said, "I need you to find me some salveyo weed please."
Misty's Poliwags jumped into the lake and swan to the bottom to get the salveyo weed.
They found it with no trouble at all and brought it to Misty, "Thanks you two," she said, "now to take this to Tracey." Misty returned her Poliwags and was just about to head back to the cabin, when she saw something by the lake.
A pink Pokémon, with a bipedal Pokémon with a Shellder latched onto its head. It is primarily pink, with a pale yellow muzzle and scaled belly. Its feet and hands each have a single clawed digit, while the hands also have a clawless thumb. Around its neck is a spiny ruff with alternating red and white stripes. The Shellder on its head has a spiral shape with two horns near the base. A red gem resides in the center of the Shellder and it was panting heavily by the lake.
"No way," Misty gasped, "it's a Slowking." She remembered the time when she and the gang met a Slowking.
When Misty looked at the Slowking, she saw that it was paralyzed, "It must have been hit by a Vileplume's stun spore too." She said to Togepi.
Misty used a PokéBall to catch Slowking, there was no way she could have carried both Slowking and the salveyo weed in her arms.
Soon, Misty was back at the cabin and gave the salveyo weed to Tracey and showed him Slowking too. Tracey used the weed to make the medicine at once. Then he gave it to Lyra, Tomo and Slowking.
In no time at all, Lyra, Tomo and Slowking were cured from the paralysis.
"Thanks a lot Trace and Mist." Lyra said.
"Thank you." Tomo smiled.
Slowking thanked Misty and Tracey too.
"Well I'm certainly glad that you three are all right now," said Tracey, "just try not to run into anymore wild Vileplume again."
Lyra and Tomo promised not to because they didn't want to suffer from paralysis again.
Misty walked up to Slowking, "Hey Slowking," she said, "if it's okay with you, I would love to have you as my Pokémon."
Slowking smiled, meaning it wanted to stay with Misty.
Slowking, the Royal Pokémon.
The evolved form of Slowpoke. It has incredible intellect and intuition. Whatever the situation, it remains calm and collected.
Slowking are native in the Johto Region.
If the Shellder on its head comes off, it will forget everything it has learned.
"You know I find Slowpoke's evolution line really strange," Lyra said, "I mean Slowpoke evolves into Slowbro when bitten on the tail by Shellder, and Slowpoke will only evolve into Slowking when wearing a king's rock and then bitten on the head by a Shellder."
"A Pokémon's evolution is always full of mysteries Lu," Tracey said, "and it shows how pokemon can be truly amazing."
Lyra, Tomo and Misty agreed with that.
Just as the gang were leaving the cabin, to head off for Pummelo Island.
Tracey told the wild Vileplume that it could go back to the forest.
But Vileplume didn't want to go, it wanted to stay with Tracey. So Tracey caught Vileplume.
Then the gang set off for Pummelo Island, with a Slowking and Vileplume in tow.
