Chapter 51: Sunburst Island – The Crystal Onix
After leaving Mikan Island, the group continued their ocean journey.
Along the way, Lyra spent time fishing and exploring smaller islands. She caught several Pokémon for her mother's garden, which had grown into something closer to a natural forest.
During one encounter, she also rescued three rare Pokémon—a Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise—from Team Rocket, discovering they were Shiny.
It became one of the most memorable days of her Orange Islands journey.
As they continued traveling, Lyra spotted something unusual floating in the water.
"A bottle?" she said, curious.
Inside was a message:
"If anyone knows about the Crystal Onix, please tell me."
"Crystal Onix…" Lyra repeated. "That sounds worth investigating."
The group agreed and headed toward Sunburst Island.
Tracey explained that the island was famous for its glass craftsmanship.
Soon, they encountered a young girl named Marissa and her older brother Mateo.
Mateo, a glass artist, was struggling.
He explained that his grandfather had once created lifelike glass Pokémon—works inspired by a mysterious creature known as the Crystal Onix.
"If we find it," Lyra said, "maybe it will help you too."
Using Tracey's Pokémon, they searched the island and eventually discovered a hidden cave.
Inside, the walls shimmered with natural crystals.
Then—
From the water emerged two Crystal Onix.
Their bodies reflected light like living gemstones.
Mateo battled one of them using his Charmeleon.
As the flames touched the crystal surface, light refracted in a breathtaking display.
That moment changed everything.
"I understand now," Mateo said quietly. "This is what I was missing."
The Crystal Onix accepted him and allowed itself to be captured.
The second one approached Lyra.
"You want to come with me too?" she asked gently.
It nodded.
"Then welcome."
She captured it.
Back at the workshop, Mateo returned to his craft with renewed confidence.
To thank them, he gifted each of them a glass figure.
With that, Lyra and her friends continued their journey—stronger, wiser, and ready for what lay ahead.
