When she glanced at the tray, she saw that he had cleared off his biscuits, but there was still some tea in his cup.
Setting the book down as quietly as she could, she climbed to her feet with much difficulty because of her heavy dress and picked up the tray.
The servants kept staring at her as she passed them, as though they wanted to ask why she had not gone but could not summon the courage to do so.
She handed the tray to the first maid she met in the kitchens and returned to where he was.
Part of her had expected him to wake up or to have returned to his chambers, but much to her surprise, he was still seated there, his neck tilted at an angle that was bordering on being uncomfortable.
For some reason, she couldn't care less if anyone stumbled upon them.
He was just sleeping…
It wasn't as if anything was happening…
But hadn't she read in that poison book of his that insomnia is a side effect of the poison he constantly consumes.
