This was indeed a pleasant surprise.
Harry found Nick much more agreeable now; it seemed he still understood the basic principles of how to conduct himself.
The documents showed that Richard Parker and Mary Parker, Peter Parker's biological parents, were a pair of brilliant biologists and botanists.
Their main focus was cancer treatment, and Richard Parker eventually created a biological organism that could "repair" a patient's body, which was of epoch-making significance.
In the early stages of their research, Norman Osborn noticed Richard Parker and decided to provide funding for his work. It was also under Osborn's sponsorship that Richard created this biological organism.
Seeing this, Harry's expression became strange:
This so-called "biological organism" wasn't that mutant spider. In other words, these two Parkers took Osborn's money and created research that they didn't show to their investor?
Seeing Harry's expression, Nick spoke up to explain:
"After creating the biological organism, they discovered that this technology could not only be applied to animals but even to the human body. Although it was dangerous, it was very useful—in the military field."
Harry glanced at Nick upon hearing this: You might as well have not said anything. Doesn't saying this clearly imply that Osborn definitely wouldn't use this technology for anything good?
To this, Nick shrugged thick-skinnedly; that was exactly what he thought. Furthermore, considering Norman's previous state, it wasn't impossible.
"Actually, their concerns weren't without reason. Keep reading," Nick said.
Soon, a group of strange men in black showed up, wanting the Parkers to sell them the technology, but the Parkers didn't think they were good people.
At this moment, S.H.I.E.L.D. appeared—they promised to provide protection to the Parkers and not abuse the technology.
As for the Parkers, they felt S.H.I.E.L.D. was trustworthy! At the same time, not wanting to implicate Osborn, they quietly boarded a plane to Los Angeles.
Harry understood where the problem lay. Poor Parkers, they trusted the wrong people.
However, on the plane, the Parkers were still very heroic, destroying the biological organism and the research data.
As for Osborn's side, before they left, they recommended the Connorses to continue their experiments. Everything connected.
"I know you've been getting close to that Parker kid recently. These are his parents' documents; you can decide whether to give them to him."
Harry touched his cup; he needed a suitable opportunity to give this to Peter.
Continuing to read, there was also a portion of the Parkers' research results in the documents. They clearly had kept a guard up against S.H.I.E.L.D., and these materials were also incomplete.
Dr. Connors would be interested in this.
Harry was quite satisfied with these documents. The key was that Nick's arrival at least indicated that S.H.I.E.L.D. was willing to show goodwill, which meant that HYDRA believed ctOS had been hacked by them and wouldn't obstruct Osborn in the short term.
After finishing the documents, Harry asked: "There is one more thing I want to ask you. Do you know this person?"
A holographic projection lit up; Harry displayed the image of the Agent who had hacked the ctOS server a few days ago.
Nick frowned: "He is our Agent. We received intelligence that a high-risk target had appeared in New York."
A high-risk target? A few names appeared in his mind, but Harry knew Nick wouldn't share these with him.
"A high-risk target, is it? Alright then, I'll just pretend I didn't see anything."
Standing up, Harry took the initiative to shake hands with Nick.
"Pleasure doing business with you, Commander Nick Fury."
"I never said my name, Mr. Osborn, but it is a pleasure doing business with you as well."
Before leaving, Nick hesitated for a moment, but finally decided to share some information about the "high-risk target" with Harry.
"There is evidence that the target possesses the ability to influence the minds of others."
Hearing this, Harry roughly knew who it was.
This target certainly couldn't be Professor X. If he wasn't mistaken, it should be a super-powered criminal with a sleazy ability and who did sleazy things—the Purple Man, Kilgrave.
The conversation ended.
In short, the first direct contact with S.H.I.E.L.D. went quite well.
Both sides held a friendly meeting. The Osborn Group indicated that S.H.I.E.L.D. could continue its operations in New York, and S.H.I.E.L.D. produced a precious, archived document.
The leaders of both sides shook hands cordially. Mr. Nick Fury stated, "I know you like East Country culture the most, so I specially brought you some souvenirs." Harry replied, "Since you understand me so well and brought gifts, Osborn can open a dedicated power supply line for your secret Base."
Finally, in a harmonious atmosphere, both sides reached a non-interference agreement, which was truly gratifying.
However, these documents would be kept with Harry for the time being. After Norman became President, Peter would have his own place.
"Harry? Has that person left? What did you talk about?" Hurley walked into the door holding some documents. Although there was nothing wrong with her on the surface, in Harry's "Connection" vision, she seemed a bit uneasy.
"Nothing much, just resolving some historical legacy issues. Yesterday, Musk invited me to take his Rocket for a space tour; would you like to join?"
Harry was in a good mood; this conversation at least showed that things hadn't developed in the worst possible direction.
"Space? No, I don't have any dreams of space travel," Hurley said while placing the documents on Harry's desk.
"That's fine, I'm not too confident in his technology either. How about we go to Kuala Lumpur instead? We can soak in the Villa for a whole day—the memories of the last time we did that were quite good."
The "last time" mentioned here was in Paris, where the two of them booked a suite at the De Galles and indulged themselves for a whole week, the kind where they were completely frank with each other.
"Harry, you are now the Chairman and CEO. I thought you hadn't forgotten that?" Hurley opened the documents.
Harry shrugged. He didn't know why, but he always felt that Hurley had become increasingly dedicated recently.
However, there were indeed many things to do.
"Washington thinks our electricity prices are too high. Some members of the public have accused us of monopolizing and raising prices, demanding that we lower them."
Harry scratched his head. What were these people playing at?
Nuclear fusion was indeed clean, sustainable, and cheap, but that didn't mean it was free.
Osborn's electricity prices were already half of what they were before. What the hell were they doing?
Could it be that some short-sighted person was spreading rumors that nuclear fusion shouldn't cost money?
"Let the federal government handle it. If they don't, I'll just go to the other side of the Pacific and build power plants," Harry waved his hand.
Capital has no national borders. If you don't want this technology, there are plenty of people who do.
"That's what I thought too," Hurley said while sending an email she had already drafted. "The operation of ctOS is very successful. Last month, the crime rate in New York City dropped by another few percentage points."
Considering that after Norman took office, the National Guard had moved into the city, being able to drop another few points was truly a huge breakthrough.
"Good news—though it was within expectations. When will ctOS cover the whole city?"
"One month, that's what Bone estimates."
Harry nodded. This was good news.
"Next is the newly launched mechanical prosthetic limb. It's selling well, but some people have cut off their own hands to install the prosthetics—the impact isn't very good."
"..." Harry rubbed his forehead, but he couldn't say anything. "The media should have it under control, right?"
"Just waiting for your order—it's done."
Then, Hurley told Harry about a few more fanatical incidents involving installing prosthetic limbs and neural implants.
Harry didn't know what opinion to express about this.
The style of this World seemed to be shifting in another direction.
After listening to Hurley's report, Harry finally finished his day's work.
Just as he wanted to relax, his phone rang.
"Harry, the new element reactor is finished. You must come and see it."
It was Dr. Otto. His voice was very excited, but he sounded a bit weak—it looked like he had stayed up for several nights again.
"Okay, Dr., I'll be there right away."
