Chapter 26 - Chapter 48-49

Chapter 48 – Investigation into Jason and Ziva

Five-0 Headquarters – Honolulu, Hawaii

The sun shone on the palm trees surrounding Five-0 HQ, a renovated historic building that served as the base for Hawaii's deadliest task force. Inside, the team was gathered in the operations room, screens filled with files, photos, and information about Jason Gibbs and Ziva David.

Steve McGarrett, former DEVGRU commander and leader of Five-0, crossed his arms as he observed the digital wall filled with military files, operational records, and images of secret missions.

What he had discovered was astounding.

Beside him, Danny Williams, Steve's partner and right-hand man, snorted and ran a hand over his face.

"Okay, explain it to me again, Steve. These two are literally the most highly trained assassins to ever set foot in Hawaii, and we throw them in an underground cubicle like they're bank robbers?"

Kono Kalakaua, the former professional surfer and current Five-0 agent, laughed.

"Yeah, maybe that wasn't the best approach."

Chin Ho Kelly, the team's tactical analyst, shook his head.

"From what I'm seeing here, calling them 'dangerous' is an understatement. The guy is a living legend. The woman too."

Jerry Ortega, the tech expert and conspiracy theorist, couldn't hide his excitement as he fiddled with the computer.

"I knew I'd heard the name Jason Gibbs before! This guy was in the hunt for Saddam, participated in the Battle of Tora Bora, has a 3km sniper record in Afghanistan… and that's just the tip of the iceberg."

Steve nodded.

"And he's not just an exceptional sniper. He was in Delta Force, one of the most select teams in JSOC." This guy spent most of his life in the shadows, eliminating threats before the world even knew they existed.

Danny whistled.

"So basically we had a ghost trained to kill sitting in our little interrogation room. Wonderful."

Steve glanced at another screen, where Ziva David's information was displayed.

"And she's no slouch either. Ex-Mossad, ex-NCIS agent, polyglot, expert in hand-to-hand combat and intelligence. Her father was the director of Mossad. Her brother was a rogue agent who caused problems for the U.S… until someone took him out."

Chin frowned.

"Who took out Ari?"

Steve gave a half-smile.

"Jason Gibbs."

The room fell silent for a moment.

Danny scratched his head, trying to process everything.

"So this guy killed her brother… and now they're together? That's really weird."

Kono shrugged.

"Love happens in the strangest places."

Jerry continued typing frantically, pulling more information from his contacts and data networks.

"And there's more. Jason's father is none other than Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the guy who leads the NCIS criminal investigation team. This guy is a legend in the investigative world."

Chin raised an eyebrow.

"So the guy grew up learning about investigations, joined the Army, went to the Special Forces, became one of the greatest snipers in history, and now he's on vacation in Hawaii with his ex-Mossad girlfriend?"

Jerry nodded.

"Basically, yes."

Steve crossed his arms.

"The question is: what the hell are they doing here? Two former elite agents, used to operating in the shadows, living peacefully in Hawaii? It doesn't make sense."

Danny sighed.

"Maybe that's exactly it, Steve. They just want to live in peace."

Kono smiled.

"I think they deserve it."

Steve continued analyzing the information.

He knew that nobody simply "retired" from a life like Jason Gibbs and Ziva David's.

If they were there, it was for a reason.

The question was: what was it?

Chapter 49 – Connections and Revelations

Honolulu, Hawaii – 2016

The golden sun reflected off the waves as Jason Gibbs and Steve McGarrett walked side-by-side along Waikiki Beach. Despite the idyllic scenery, their conversation was anything but relaxing.

"So, what favor do you need?" Jason asked, maintaining a casual tone, but his eyes fixed on the Five-0 leader's face.

Steve hesitated for a moment before answering.

"I need information on two people. My mother, Doris McGarrett… and Catherine Rollins."

Jason raised an eyebrow.

"Doris and Catherine?" He crossed his arms. "I'm not going to lie, McGarrett. Anything involving the CIA is complicated. But if there's something I can do, I'll do it. Give me a few days."

Steve nodded.

"Thanks, Jason. I know it's asking a lot, but… I need to know."

Jason simply nodded, his thoughts already processing the connections and paths he would have to follow to obtain the information without raising alarms.

Jason and Ziva's rented apartment was a tranquil haven. The balcony overlooked the ocean, and inside, Ziva brewed coffee while Jason typed rapidly on his laptop.

She glanced at him over her cup.

"You seem focused. What are you up to?"

Jason continued typing without taking his eyes off the screen.

"McGarrett asked me a favor. He wants information about his mother and about Catherine Rollins."

Ziva raised an eyebrow.

"That's personal."

"Very. But I already have the answers. Now I just need to organize the details before telling him."

Ziva leaned over the table, observing the laptop screen.

"What did you find?"

Jason exhaled slowly.

— Doris McGarrett is infiltrated in Carmen Lucia Pérez's cartel, one of the biggest drug lords in Latin America.

Ziva frowned.

— This is serious. Carmen Lucia's cartel is no joke. They have a network of corruption and violence that extends all the way to the US. If Doris is infiltrated there, she's either brilliant… or she's screwed.

Jason shook his head.

— Maybe both. And Catherine? — He looked at another file on the screen. — She's in Iran, involved in a clandestine mission with the CIA SAD.

Ziva took a deep breath.

— That explains why nobody can find her.

Jason closed the laptop.

— Now, all that's left is to tell McGarrett.

Steve sat behind the desk, nervous. Since asking Jason for help, his mind hadn't stopped racing. He knew the ex-Delta was one of the few men capable of finding answers where no one else could.

The office door opened and Jason entered, closing it behind him.

"Do you have something for me?" Steve asked anxiously.

Jason pulled up a chair and sat down facing him.

"I do. But I don't know if you'll like it."

Steve took a deep breath.

"Just tell me."

Jason rested his elbows on the desk.

"Doris McGarrett is infiltrated in Carmen Lucia Pérez's cartel."

Steve's eyes widened.

"What?!"

Jason continued.

"She's been there for months, posing as a money launderer to gain the cartel's trust. This is no small thing, Steve. Carmen Lucia isn't just any criminal. She's one of the most intelligent and lethal drug traffickers to ever emerge." If your mother is discovered…

Steve clenched his fists.

—She dies.

Jason nodded.

—Exactly. And there's more.

Steve looked at him, waiting.

—Catherine Rollins is in Iran. She's on a clandestine mission with the CIA SAD. No records, no contact. Basically, if something goes wrong, nobody will know.

Steve was silent for a moment, absorbing the information.

—Damn…

Jason noticed the tension on his face.

—If you need help getting them out of there, McGarrett… you know where to find me.

Steve looked at Jason and nodded slowly.

—Thanks, man. I really appreciate it.

Jason stood up, patted Steve on the shoulder, and left the office, leaving the Five-0 leader alone with his thoughts.

He knew this story was far from over.
