Chapter 55 — Trial of the Amazon

The arena of Themyscira stood beneath the open sky.

A perfect circle of ancient stone, carved with symbols older than most civilizations, its surface worn smooth by centuries of combat. Around it, rows of Amazon warriors gathered—silent at first, disciplined, but with an undeniable tension simmering beneath their calm.

At the highest platform stood Queen Hippolyta, her gaze steady, unreadable.

At the center—

Two figures faced each other.

Diana Prince stood tall, armor gleaming under the sun, her stance relaxed yet ready, her grip tightened around her weapon, but her breathing remained steady—controlled. Across from her, Von-Ra El rolled his shoulders slightly, measured a faint smirk tugging at his lips.

He looked… casual.

Too casual.

"Rules are simple," Hippolyta's voice echoed across the arena."No killing intent. No excessive force. Victory is determined by submission… or incapacity."

Her eyes lingered on Von-Ra.

"Control yourself, Kryptonian."

Von-Ra placed a hand over his chest and gave a small bow.

"I'll try my best."

A few Amazons scoffed.

Diana didn't wait.

She moved.

The moment her foot touched the ground—

She vanished.

A blur of motion, faster than most eyes could follow, her spear striking forward in a precise, lethal arc aimed at Von-Ra's shoulder.

CLANG—

The impact rang through the arena.

Von-Ra had moved—but barely.

He leaned just enough for the strike to glance off him, the force still echoing through his body.

Murmurs erupted.

"Did he just—"

"He didn't even guard—"

"He let that happen."

Von-Ra straightened, rolling his shoulder slightly.

"Fast," he admitted.

Diana didn't respond.

She attacked again.

This time, it wasn't one strike.

It was ten.

A storm of blows—precise, controlled, relentless.

Her spear became an extension of her body, thrusting, sweeping, reversing direction mid-motion. Each strike targeted a different point—joint, nerve, balance.

Von-Ra moved through it.

Not blocking.

Not countering.

Just… stepping.

A shift of weight. when he step backward to evade a strike from Diana

A turn of the torso.

A slight tilt of the head. for Diana to missed a centimeter.

Every attack missed him by the smallest margin possible.

"Impossible…"

"She's not missing—he's reading her!"

"He's predicting her movements!"

Diana's eyes sharpened.

She changed rhythm instantly.

Her next strike came slower—

A feint.

Von-Ra moved to dodge—

And her foot swept under him.

BOOM—

The ground cracked as he hit the arena floor.

Gasps rippled through the Amazons.

Diana stood over him, spear aimed at his chest.

"Observation won't save you," she said.

Von-Ra looked up at her.

Then smiled.

"I know."

He moved.

Not fast.

But precise.

His hand caught the shaft of the spear—not stopping it, but redirecting it just enough to shift its path. At the same time, his body twisted, using her own momentum—

And suddenly—

Diana was the one forced back.

She slid across the stone, boots carving shallow lines into the arena before stopping.

Silence fell.

"…He reversed her?"

"No—he used her movement."

"That wasn't strength…"

'Zod's genes is truly remarkable. a peak of Kryptonian warrior could ever had. amplified by Viltrumite's adaptive smart atom is too overpowered' he thought

Diana adjusted her grip.

For the first time—

She smiled.

"Good," she said.

Then she rushed him again.

This time—

She didn't hold back.

Her speed doubled.

The air cracked with each movement, her strikes carrying enough force to shatter stone. She abandoned linear attacks, circling him, shifting angles, attacking from blind spots.

Von-Ra's expression changed.

Not to fear.

But focus.

He raised his arm—

CRACK—

The impact of her strike sent a shockwave across the arena floor, dust lifting into the air.

This time—

He blocked.

The Amazons felt it.

"That force—!"

"She's serious now—"

"And he stopped it…"

Von-Ra's feet hadn't moved.

But the stone beneath them had fractured.

Diana's eyes widened—just slightly.

"Heavy…" she muttered.

Von-Ra tilted his head.

"You hit harder than I expected."

She didn't answer.

She attacked again.

A spinning strike—

He caught her wrist.

A kick—

He shifted, letting it pass.

A downward thrust—

He stepped inside her range.

Too close.

Their movements slowed.

Not physically—

But in perception.

Every shift of muscle.

Every breath.

Every decision.

Diana twisted, breaking free, but Von-Ra didn't pursue.

He stepped back instead.

Creating distance.

'…He's holding back. i can feel it.'

"Why?"

Diana exhaled slowly.

"You're not fighting me seriously."

Von-Ra met her gaze.

"If I did… this wouldn't be a test anymore."

Silence.

For a moment—

Something unspoken passed between them.

Then—

Diana lunged again.

This time, Von-Ra moved first.

The ground beneath him cracked as he stepped forward—not explosively, but with controlled force. His hand met hers mid-strike, redirecting, guiding—

Then—

He stopped.

Her blade hovered inches from his neck.

His hand rested just before her heart.

Both froze.

The arena held its breath.

"…Who won?"

"They both could have—"

"They stopped…"

Diana slowly lowered her weapon.

Von-Ra did the same.

A long silence followed.

Then—

Diana stepped back.

"…Again," she said.

Von-Ra smiled.

"I was hoping you'd say that."

Above them, Hippolyta's gaze darkened slightly.

Not from anger.

From thought.

"He's holding too much," she murmured.
