"Is the world coming to an end? Monsters are appearing everywhere, and spaces called 'Dominions' are taking shape across Earth..."
The speakers echoed through a spacious white room, sitting next to a big television screen. Indifferent to the images, Zeth was brewing a cup of coffee for himself, the only task where he didn't like external intervention.
As hot water slowly poured through the ground coffee beans, a rich aroma traveled through the air. Eyes closed, Zeth carefully lifted the hot cup and let the aroma fill his senses, a rich, fresh brew. He hovered the cup for a few seconds, then opened his eyes.
There were notes to coffee, perhaps even more than wine.
The awakening aroma, before the elixir even touched the lips, was a warm introduction to what was about to come. Satisfied with his skills, Zeth faintly smiled.
Calmly looking at the cup, he slowly brought it close, tilting it before taking a small sip. The second sensation brought warmth, as his palate flooded with rich acidity, but not sourness, and a lively brightness made his mouth water...a sensation worth savoring.
Zeth closed his eyes, ready to feel the rich sensation.
"Ahhh..." A slight moan escaped his lips. His eyes opened, and he looked at the cup in his hand for a minute, gently shaking his head.
"Disgusting!"
He said with a smile, letting go of the cup as it fell to the floor and shattered into pieces, spilling the black liquid everywhere. Normally, a bad sip of coffee was enough to piss off Zeth for a whole day, but today...it was different.
Special, in fact.
After all, this was the day he had devoted to gaining followers for the God of Death. And of course, the first step would be buying off the media.
"It is only thanks to gods like the God of Death that we get to see the world stabilize..."
With a faint smile, Zeth looked at the TV. He swiped his hand through the air, and it changed to another news channel.
"So today we are debating how to pay back the God of Death..."
Then a sports channel.
"BLACK LEGION has won the World Cup! Only sponsored by the God of Death!!"
With a satisfied sigh, he turned the TV off and headed toward a very small, modest-looking wardrobe in the distance. With a push on the handle made of platinum and topped with diamond fragments, the small wardrobe...which could fit the entire living space of some commoners...slid open.
The wardrobe was divided into three sections. The top was filled with all sorts of shirts and suits, the middle with pants, and at the bottom was only one pair of footwear.
The custom-made golden Crocs that had managed to survive the monster attack.
Thinking back, Zeth realized it had been almost two weeks since he fought that hobgoblin. And from what it looked like, the world had taken a different route while he was meddling in heaven's affairs.
'What should I wear...ahhh.'
For example, the monster that had killed him. In the series of chaotic events, Zeth had almost forgotten to question what that thing was or where it had come from. Was he that dumb? Perhaps...but when there was a talking skeleton before him and a roaring monster behind, his attention had shifted.
'Let's go with all white today, kekeke.'
Nonetheless, over the past few weeks, the world had changed. Multiple spaces called Dominions had formed throughout the planet, and monsters occasionally escaped from them. At first, there wasn't even any network or electricity, but in a matter of days, humanity had evolved.
'Now what should I wear with a white suit...hmmm...white pants!'
Thankfully, he wasn't the only employee sent by the gods, and from the quest he had received, it seemed the primary job of every employee was to eliminate these Dominions and spread the good word of their gods.
Though too bad for them, they had to end up competing with Zeth. While they had been busy clearing Dominions, he had already bought off all the media to promote the lowly skeleton who had helped him.
Zeth, now dressed in an all-white suit, finally wore his golden Crocs and looked in the mirror for a fit check. A perfect harmony of white and gold, with one exception...the Necklace of Goblin Teeth he wore beneath his white shirt.
So just in case another monster appeared again, he would be able to put up a little fight...or at least buy himself enough time to get undressed. Maybe.
Meanwhile, this wasn't the only thing Zeth had been doing while the other employees were fighting to protect humanity. He was constantly exploring the extent of his abilities and figuring out how he could bypass the dumb system.
As reluctant as the blue screen was, there were things it didn't bother him with much, such as mails and...
"Inventory!"
Zeth said out loud, and a screen appeared before him with about ten slots. Each of these slots acted like storage. From what he had figured out, it could store anything that counted as a single unit, as long as it fit within a one-meter cube—for example, one wad of cash.
The good part about the inventory was that he could summon anything out anytime he wanted, and he didn't need to carry the weight of whatever he stored.
"Good, now it's time for some flashy flash."
The smile on Zeth's lips widened as he confidently walked toward the window. As soon as he slid it open, the completely silent room burst with the noise of the crowd outside. Zeth stepped onto the balcony, looking at the thousands of people below, lined up and pushing each other.
"How are you all, wonderful followers of Death?" Zeth yelled at the top of his lungs, simultaneously summoning two wads of cash and throwing them into the air.
"Wooohhooo!!"
"Money! My money!"
The crowd erupted into chaos, trying to grab the flying green bills. Zeth smiled constantly, looking at his hard work over the past few days. This was all the result of the free food he had offered, the donations he had made, and the money he had thrown around.
The entire marketing campaign for Death had cost only $300 million, but he could only do so much for the god who had saved his life twice. Not to mention, what was a drop of water gone from a swimming pool?
"Get ready, followers. It's prayer time!" Zeth yelled with his arms open.
"Prayer time!"
"Prayer time!"
The crowd instantly fell silent. Zeth pulled out the small chit and recited the prayer written on it.
"Let peace grant upon thee...and let the cycle of reincarnation continue. Holy and invincible, absolute and eternal, I pray to thee...Death."
As soon as he completed the prayer, the crowd erupted again.
"God of Death! God of Death!"
Zeth's smile widened even further. He had never manipulated people on this massive a scale before. Now he had a good grasp of how cult leaders and politicians felt. He began cheering again.
"East or west?"
"Death is the best!"
"All gods are flop?"
"Death stays on the top!"
"Pounds or bucks?"
"Aeris sucks!"
'Well, the last line was unnecessary...but Aeris deserved it.'
Zeth proudly shook his head. He could already imagine the lowly skeleton hiring construction workers to build the tallest building in heaven.
And now, with one of the problems solved, Zeth had to focus on the main task. His job as an intern, which he was looking at on the blue screen...
