"Anyway, since this powerful mutant isn't inside the Academy, this is our best chance to make contact with him. Coulson, I'm putting this on you." Nick Fury's voice carried its usual calm authority, but there was no room for negotiation.
Phil Coulson grimaced the moment he heard it, rubbing his temple as if a headache had already started forming. "Director, I have to say… this really doesn't sound like a good assignment." His tone stayed respectful, but the reluctance was obvious.
"As one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s best agents, I trust you can handle it." Fury didn't hesitate for a second, his confidence sounding less like encouragement and more like a final decision already made.
And honestly, it wasn't an exaggeration. Coulson was one of Fury's most reliable people, someone who could navigate impossible situations without losing his composure.
Still, after the call ended, Coulson let out a long sigh and stared at his phone. "Of course it's me…" he muttered under his breath, already feeling like he'd just been volunteered for something far more dangerous than it sounded.
Across the city, the battle was only getting worse.
With Liam Hayes and Polaris watching from a distance, the Hulk was clearly being overpowered. Despite his incredible durability and raw strength, he was getting beaten back step by step, his massive frame staggering under Abomination's relentless attacks.
Hulk's resilience kept him standing, but even that had its limits. Blow after blow landed, each one heavier than the last, and the difference between the two monsters was becoming more obvious by the second.
Seeing the situation deteriorate, the military helicopters circling above finally joined the fight.
The mounted cannons opened fire, rounds tearing through the air as they rained down on Abomination. The bullets didn't truly injure him, but they stung enough to irritate him, each impact adding to his growing rage.
Abomination lifted his head and roared toward the sky, his eyes locking onto the helicopters with savage intent. Then, without hesitation, he abandoned Hulk and sprinted toward a nearby skyscraper, claws digging into the structure as he began climbing at an alarming speed.
It was clear what he was planning. He intended to use the building as a launch point to take down the aircraft.
Liam watched with narrowed eyes, a hint of interest flashing across his face. "So he's not just brute force… he's still thinking," he muttered quietly, recognizing that Abomination retained a level of intelligence that made him even more dangerous.
Sure enough, after scaling several levels, Abomination seized his moment. He crouched briefly, then launched himself into the air with explosive force, his massive body arcing toward one of the helicopters.
Below, Hulk roared in response, his instincts kicking in as he charged forward and leaped after him.
At the critical moment, Hulk collided with Abomination midair, disrupting his attack. However, Abomination still managed to grab onto part of the helicopter's steel frame, his grip crushing metal like it was paper.
Hulk latched onto him in turn, refusing to let go.
With both giants hanging from it, the helicopter immediately lost stability. It lurched violently, spinning out of control before slamming straight into a nearby building in a deafening crash.
The wreckage barely had time to settle before Abomination tore himself free, landing heavily as if the impact meant nothing. His attention snapped right back to Hulk.
Boom!
A brutal punch sent Hulk flying off the rooftop, his massive body crashing down into the street below. The ground fractured instantly, cracks spreading outward like a spiderweb from the point of impact.
Abomination didn't hesitate. He leaped down after him, descending like a meteor before slamming his foot down with crushing force.
The impact was devastating, driving Hulk deeper into the shattered ground. Even for him, the blow was overwhelming.
"Roar… Abomination is the strongest!" he bellowed, standing over Hulk with savage triumph, his voice echoing through the ruined street.
At that same moment, Liam's phone rang.
He glanced at the screen and answered without hesitation, his tone casual despite the chaos unfolding nearby. "Got it. I'll handle it. Don't worry, it's nothing serious—just two oversized idiots smashing things."
After hanging up, Liam lowered the phone and looked back at the battlefield, his gaze settling on the two monsters locked in destruction.
Originally, he had no intention of stepping in. Watching from the sidelines had been more than enough entertainment.
But things had changed.
Professor X had just called, asking him to intervene and deal with Abomination.
Apparently, Nick Fury had reached out to the professor, requesting assistance in subduing the two creatures rampaging through New York. In return, S.H.I.E.L.D. had likely offered something worthwhile—enough to make Xavier agree.
And since Liam was already on-site, the task naturally fell to him.
Polaris glanced at him curiously after he ended the call, her brows slightly raised. "You're actually going to step in and fight that thing?"
"That's the plan," Liam replied with a relaxed smile, as if the situation wasn't remotely serious. "The professor asked, so I'll handle it."
She tilted her head, studying him for a moment before asking, "Want backup?"
Liam shook his head, waving her off casually. "Not necessary. Just stay here and watch. I'll be back in a minute."
His confidence wasn't forced—it was absolute.
At that moment, Abomination suddenly seemed to sense something, his expression shifting as if a faint unease had crept in. Without warning, he grabbed Hulk by the leg and hurled him away like a discarded object.
"Ah—!"
A terrified scream rang out from a nearby building, instantly drawing Liam's attention.
Hulk's massive body was hurtling straight toward it, and inside, a woman stood frozen in shock. If that impact landed, the structure wouldn't hold, and she'd be crushed instantly.
Liam vanished.
In the next instant, he appeared directly in front of the incoming Hulk. He reached out with one hand, placing it against Hulk's body as if stopping something weightless.
The vector manipulation activated immediately, redirecting the overwhelming force without resistance.
What should have been a catastrophic collision turned into nothing.
Liam caught Hulk effortlessly, the momentum dissipating as if it had never existed.
Behind him, the woman's screams abruptly stopped. Through the shattered window, she could only see his back—calm, unmoving, almost unreal.
Liam didn't spare her a glance. He looked down at the battered Hulk in his grasp, then casually tossed him aside like he was no longer relevant.
Then his attention shifted.
His eyes locked onto Abomination.
With a slight curl of his finger, Liam made a simple, unmistakable gesture.
"Come on," he said lightly, his tone carrying a faint hint of challenge. "Let's see what you've got."
The provocation worked instantly.
Abomination's head snapped toward him, rage flaring in his eyes. With a thunderous roar, he grabbed a nearby car and hurled it straight at Liam without hesitation.
Behind Liam, the woman gasped again, fear surging back as the vehicle came crashing toward them.
But before she could even scream—
Liam raised one hand.
He caught the car midair.
The sheer ease of it shattered any sense of normalcy. To him, it weighed nothing.
The woman stared, completely stunned, her mind struggling to process what she was seeing.
And then Liam moved.
With a flick of his arm, he threw the car back.
Boom!
Abomination didn't even have time to react before the vehicle slammed into him, sending his massive body flying backward like a ragdoll.
