I put my hands on the ground activating a runic enchantment. Cassie and noctis had worked together while making it. All of it was to suppress both Asterion and unrelenting storm.
"I'll power the runes, cassie can you control the ones stopping nightwalker and Asterion?"
She nods walking forwards, standing next to me.
"I'll keep them both from getting here to the best of my ability"
i look away from cassie to mordret
"what about you?"
He twirls the sword, a ice scabbard forming that he then puts it into.
"His mind attack is less oppressive now. Although unrelenting storm hasn't acted, I suspect it's to summon their army from that box of yours"
he tries to smile but there's a clear hate in his tone
"I'm not shocked that thing would use it to summon a army"
he's just looking for any reason to hate on unrelenting storm i suspect
"just be careful. From what we know it's likely their in some way adapted to your way of combat."
I have a suspicion, a heavy one. From what I know, i used to have a major connection to the lord of shadows. I believe, in some way, the plague version of him taught unrelenting storm the way he fights. They have a lot of similarities, and if that is the case that would explain why their so good at mimicking others abilities and combat skill.
"■■■■ zone back in"
i look over at cassie then I sigh
"hard not to get lost in my thoughts, seeing the thing that ripped me apart and all."
She turns her head away
"i understand"
i would guess she's referring to what happened to her eye and all. It wouldn't be shocking.
I stop a cannon ball from hitting the runes, and cassie. One going flying past hitting next to mordret. I take a good look around, so far none of the thralls have managed to get even close to the island, Seishan and her sisters have gotten the closest. The world seems to shake for a second. I quickly grab cassie pulling her close and half of the chains snap at once. All of it from one shot of storms last hope. Mordret sighs looking up at the flying ship that's dodging each thing fired at it
"what did it do to that ship?"
I shake my head letting go of cassie who's legs shake a bit from the shockwave
"it's likely a mix of saint dreads essence gathering aspect, and saint seer of the infinites aspect of prediction to strike at the weak points of the chains."
I shake my head
"still quite impressive"
I look up at the ship flying around the battlefield, then i look at the ivory island.
"Looks like this is my cue."
He steps forward going a little past me and cassie, about to confront Asterion alone. For a second he stops looking back at cassie, then he tilts his head with a almost amused tone he speaks
"You know, I was really dissatisfied when you managed to escape from me back then — all those years ago, in the Night Temple. I couldn't make you into a vessel, and I failed to kill you. Even though I am incapable of feeling regret, it was quite vexing."
he ways his hand as if dismissing the thought
"Who knew that I would feel lucky not to have killed you one day? Ah... the world has truly gone mad. See you on the other side, Song of the Fallen."
He then looks over at me, although his tone stays light it feels far more fake.
"I was annoyed you got away, but I did find it fun. You had always been such odd figure."
He shakes his head looking back at the chain Asterion is using to get to the island
"even if i can't feel regret, I think i would if I could."
I scoff
"yes i know my aspect is strong"
he stays silent
"no that we didn't meet before i was sealed away. Either way, ill see you soon enough my dear rival"
he jumps down taking the sword out of its scabbard.
I lift my hand throwing unrelenting storm out of the sky and onto one of the chains. I finally summon the memory mordret gave to me as I jump onto the chain. A moon floats from my hand into the air, covering the sun in the sky, moonlight spreads out over the battlefield. Finally out of ice comes noctis landing next to me. We have a standoff with unrelenting storm. I lean down, and I rush forwards as I create a halberd. Using snow storm i speed up my strike, but with one finger it's stopped by unrelenting storm. I look at their face, covered by a helmet, and their hit in the head by noctis. They barely move, but i don't give them time as I kick at their leg, shattering it by increasing the weight of my armor using one of its abilities. Their arm snaps around like a child playing with a doll, and cuts into my face cutting my face and ripping my eyes out. I stumble back as I regrow my eyes, unrelenting storm strikes out at me and is barely blocked by noctis. I slide back, it seems the opening part of the battle, testing each other is over. There's no reason to hold back, theres no reason to stop. I melt the halberd into myself temporarily melding the cracks, then i rush forwards. I make a set of claws slashing at unrelenting storm, each one shakes the whole chain making loud creaking. Each slash is punished heavily, sometimes a arm or a leg is cut off. Maybe I should get rid of my mouth so I don't scream. My head is knocked off but I don't stop, simply regenerating it. I feel its head turn towards and it let's out a wind slash towards Asterions army, no towards the controlled people. Noctis barely blocks it getting a arm torn off and i slam them down using my armor to increase my weight finally breaking the chain. We fall together swinging at each other, blowing chunks off of each other and healing them at the same time. I use will to speed up our fall.
"Is that how far you will go?"
I hit them in the face, getting my jaw torn off in response. Of course it is, if i have to use the divine flames to kill us both I will! We fall so fast there's a boom as we break the sound barrier, soon we plunge into the flames. I bite into them, my body cracking and breaking. We keep fighting even in the divine flames eating us alive. I hear a crack as they start cracking like I am.
"That won't do"
They grab my collar and they throw me up out of flames. They follow me up, flying at a insane pace slamming into me, turning the tides. I can't even get a hit, yet I wont stop I can't stop.
I finally get back up, slamming into one of the chains, breaking it. I keep going up for a few seconds before I kick off the air landing on the ash covered island, I roll as I land. I finally stop myself trying to pull myself up
"monster."
I cough violently my whole body in horrible pain
"that things a damn monster."
Cassie pulls me up, letting me lean on her. I try to laugh but it hurts too much
"I guess we're both missing a eye."
Half of my face is gone. Mordret reappears, his legs and arms are the main thing hurt, but his sword is completely unbroken. He looks up at my crumbled form
"why would you....? Oh hell it doesn't matter. Go inside, ill try to hold them both off. Luckily he seems to be wanting to capture me, not kill me so I can likely deal with it."
He walks forward getting close. I suddenly spring forwards slamming into him, sending him flying. A sword stabs into me
"seems you finally got me unrelenting storm"
i look into those uncaring eyes, the sword moves, cutting me in half.
