Cherreads

Chapter 152 - The final day of rest

Casters point of view

I step down from the walls, is seer of the infinite always like...that? I mentally run back on everything that happened. It knew my flaw or it had a very good idea of what my flaw is. How I am not sure, but I know how they used it against me. I'll have to start planning around such a thing, if they can learn my flaw, so can Asterion. First tuck the charm under my armor. Next, i may have to get a armor that I can slot it into. Their rare but I have heard of them here and there. It won't be easy but I'll figure it out. I go to the kitchen tent, its quite loud with a lot of talking. I pass by a few tables

"okay but think about it big hairy m..."

"death is nothing compar..."

"thats that and this is th...."

"am I crazy or is frozen singer kinda b....."

"fuck, marry, kill, Asterion, ki song and anv...."

a very recognizable voice rings out like nails on a chalkboard.

"Oh look it, its lightning slayer"

not again. I speed up trying not to be caught by her. I feel a hand grab my shoulder, gods damn it. I don't want to deal with this today. I get pulled back to a table.

"Look who the cat dragged in"

i sigh

"hello saint guide of the dead."

She scoffs loudly like she wasn't the one who dragged me here.

"Always so formal, you aren't better then us."

I turn my head looking at morgan who seems mildly amused.

"I can't say i think myself better then you all."

Guide of the dead leans forward

"oh just some of us"

I look away

"i can neither confirm or deny"

she slams her hand on the table then grabs my collar

"listen here you little sh-"

the whole tent go silent as the sovereign of snow steps inside. Their steps echo in the now silent tent, each step making a metallic clink. Everyone watches them.

"We are attacking tomorrow, all of you are to be ready."

Theres a wave of small acknowledgement. Nobody says anything. Even guide of the dead is uncomfortable with their presence. Their presence isn't the same as beast, its oppressive and oddly enough chilling. Beasts presence felt nice, almost warm for some reason. But their gone, and that message they had sent to ravenheart, bastion and NQSC splashed cold water over everyone. It's mostly pretty lively now, but it was a lot more before then, even if I wasn't here for long before that. They turn away and they simply leave the tent in silence.

Everyone gets food soon after. The whole tent eats, it takes a while before anyone starts talking, and a while after for anyone at my table to speak, its morgan who talks

"is.... how common was that?"

Guide of the dead stays slightly hunched.

"When... that one comes around, its the only response. Never for any of the other versions."

I poke at the stew. It's not bad but not that good. "

War is that dangerous?"

She scoffs, rolling her eyes

"you felt that aura they've got, clearly"

there's another long uncomfortable silence.

"So morgan, how's saint summer knight?"

She shrugs

"he's mostly fine, healed up, he's likely to help taking back some of the citadels."

I nod

"thats good."

Nobody talks for the rest of my time eating.

After I eat I go back to the walls, I find summer knight there.

"Oh, Saint summer knight! I see you are in good health"

he looks back slightly surprised then he smiles.

"Oh saint caster, its been some time. I heard about everything."

I sit next to him.

"Yes, i suppose one would. It hasn't been long since we came here."

He fiddles with a small crystal, a warmth memory

"its really cold here, I'm shocked silent stalker actually explored this place even this far. Much less how far they went."

I chuckle

"they can't really feel warm or cold so i doubt that matters much."

He stops glancing over

"thats their flaw?"

Oh I suppose they wouldn't know

"yeah, being unable to feel warmth."

Its a.... flaw thats ever been given. Its both a amazing flaw and a terrible one

"thats a little cruel, but it doesn't affect combat so I'll take it."

We don't talk for a while in a comfortable silence. Snow starts falling softly. He lifts a hand catching one in his hand, it melts almost instantly.

"Thank you"

he doesn't look up

"thank you for saving me even at your expense."

He looks up into the distance

"I acted out of emotion and not reason. That is my fault."

I shake my head

"no no. I can't blame you. That was the whole point of it all. Of making those people jump."

I look up into the sky, a snow flake falls on my noise. I wipe it off as it melts

"i'm sorry I couldn't save nightngale."

He huffs with a smile trying to seem amused

"from a sovereign? It was insane to even try."

He looks over at me

"the fact you got so close was more then enough."

We don't talk for the rest of the time on the walls. Its warm, due to his memory. I should get something like that.
