Chapter 92 - The War Room

Seris's study was still too small for a war council, which was, Katarina supposed, fitting, because the war was small too...

... For now.

She had the cream contract flattened on the desk, the one Renzo had taken back and that she'd, naturally, copied from memory the moment he was out the gate.

Beside it she'd set 3 things in a row: a list of what Samara had told her, a list of what Samara had let slip without meaning to, and a blank sheet. The third list was the one that mattered, and she hadn't written it yet.

Brynn was leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed, taking up most of it. Seris was in her usual chair by the window, wine within reach but untouched, which was how Katarina knew she was paying attention.

"Here's where we are," Katarina said. "They tried to buy me, I said no, and now I'd like to spend our time thinking about what they might do about that, not on the offer itself."
