Renzo let the silence sit for a moment before he spoke. He was in no hurry, and he wanted her to know it.
Then he gestured. The delegate at his right produced a contract on cream-colored paper and laid it on the low table between them.
"We've had time to reconsider," Renzo said. "Our previous offer did not reflect the true value of your work, Signora. Vannico is a capable man, but he's young. He led with his first number. I prefer to lead with my best."
Katarina picked up the contract and read it.
[Huh.]
It was roughly double what Vannico had put in front of her in the spring, which itself had been an absolutely insane amount. The exclusivity clause was gone. The term had dropped from 10 years to 4, and the licensing structure had been loosened in all the places she'd flagged as dealbreakers last time. She read it a second time to find the catch.
But she didn't find one. On paper, it was, frankly, a good deal.
