Tatsumaki trembled as Sol suddenly moved, her body sinking into the soft mattress. Her emerald eyes widened when his face came close, so close that her breathing stalled for a moment.
"You!"
Her breathing grew uneven, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks. She could feel the weight of his body and the warmth seeping through his clothes.
Sol looked down at her as moonlight slipped through the curtains, casting a pale glow across her trembling lashes. His hand slid slowly down her wrist, his fingers intertwining with hers before pressing her hand gently into the pillow.
"Don't move," he said quietly, his voice slightly rough. "Just stay like this for a bit."
Tatsumaki's chest rose and fell sharply. She could feel his breath against her face, carrying a faint metallic scent. The closeness made her body stiff, her mind going blank as she forgot to even use her psychokinesis.
"Le-let go," she said, her voice softer than usual, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes.
Sol didn't move away. Instead, he leaned closer, his nose nearly brushing her cheek. His breath warmed her skin, making the tips of her ears burn.
"You…" Her voice trembled. "What exactly are you trying to do?"
His gaze dropped to her slightly parted lips, his throat tightening. He lowered his head slowly, stopping just before their lips could meet.
Tatsumaki held her breath. Her curls lifted slightly, reacting to her unstable emotions. Her fingers tightened, her nails pressing into his palm.
Then, just as the moment peaked, Sol let go and rolled onto his back beside her.
"I'm sorry," he said, his tone returning to normal. "I lost control for a second."
Tatsumaki immediately curled up on the far side of the bed, clutching the blanket tightly. Her face burned red, her heart pounding so hard it felt like it would burst.
"Idiot, pervert, lecher, COWARD!" she snapped, though her voice lacked its usual bite. "Who told you to do that!"
Sol turned his head slightly. In the dim light, her profile looked softer than usual, and faint moisture clung to her lashes. He reached out to wipe it away, but she slapped his hand aside.
"Don't touch me!" she snapped, glaring at him. "If you try that again, I'll, I'll…"
Her words cut off as Sol leaned in and pressed a light kiss to her forehead.
Tatsumaki froze completely.
Her breath stopped, her body stiffening as the soft contact sent a strange shiver through her.
"Good night, Tatsumaki," Sol said gently.
She yanked the blanket over her head, her muffled voice coming from underneath.
"Idiot… coward."
Sol looked at the lump under the blanket, a faint smile tugging at his lips. He leaned back, resting his hands behind his head as he stared at the ceiling.
Under the covers, Tatsumaki bit her lip, her fingers drifting to her forehead where he had kissed her. The warmth lingered, making her heart race again.
"Annoying rookie," she muttered quietly, though she shifted slightly closer to his side without realizing it.
The moonlight faded behind thick clouds, plunging the room into darkness. Neither of them spoke again, the only sound left was their quiet breathing.
Morning came quickly.
Sunlight streamed through the curtains, filling the room with warmth.
Tatsumaki's eyes snapped open.
She froze.
She was curled up in Sol's arms.
Her face turned bright red instantly, her hair bristling like a startled cat.
"Idiot!"
She pushed herself away and floated into the air, glaring down at him with a flushed face.
"Who said you could hold me while sleeping!"
Sol blinked awake, rubbing his eyes. "Sorry… I probably move around in my sleep."
Her ears burned red as she shot him a sharp glare before floating toward the bathroom.
"Don't follow me!"
The door slammed shut.
Inside, the sound of running water filled the space, along with her frustrated muttering.
Sol sat up slowly, glancing at his hands.
They looked small and soft.
Memories from last night surfaced clearly, the kiss, and the way she had moved closer afterward.
"This is getting complicated," he muttered.
That hadn't been part of the plan.
In the bathroom, Tatsumaki turned the cold water all the way up, splashing her face repeatedly.
Her reflection stared back at her, wet curls clinging to her cheeks, her lips pressed tight.
"That idiot…" she whispered, her fingers brushing her forehead again.
The memory made her heart speed up, and she quickly splashed more water on her face.
"Get a grip, Tatsumaki," she muttered to herself. "You're just watching him, nothing more."
A knock on the door startled her.
She nearly lost control of her floating.
"Wh-what do you want!"
"Breakfast is ready," Sol's voice came from outside. "Fried eggs and toast."
Her stomach betrayed her with a quiet growl.
She froze.
She had barely eaten anything the night before aside from ice cream.
After a short hesitation, she floated to the door, then paused to check her appearance.
Satisfied, she pulled it open sharply.
"Who asked you to do this! I can cook for myself!"
Sol stood there holding a tray. "I don't cook much, so just manage."
Her expression softened slightly, her hair settling down.
"So stupid… you barely know how to cook and still tried."
She took the tray and floated to the table, eating in small bites.
The eggs were cooked just right, and the toast had a perfect crisp.
She hesitated for a second before continuing.
It was… good.
Surprisingly good.
Sol sat across from her, watching quietly.
Sunlight streamed through the window, falling on her and giving her a softer appearance than usual.
"What are you staring at?" she snapped, her ears turning red again. "Don't look at me like that."
Sol looked away and picked up his communicator.
"The Association sent a message. There's another meeting at headquarters."
Tatsumaki paused mid-bite, tension flickering across her face.
"Did they find something?"
"Not sure," Sol said. "Just that it's important."
She set her fork down. Green energy surrounded the tray, lifting it toward the kitchen.
"I'm going to change," she said, floating away. "And don't even think about peeking."
