Chapter 66 - The Memory He Doesn’t Have

Mira didn't sleep.

Not because she couldn't—

But because she was afraid.

Afraid that if she closed her eyes…

She would see more.

More memories.

More moments.

More things she wasn't ready to understand.

Her room was silent.

The clock ticking softly.

But inside her mind—

Nothing was quiet.

Images kept appearing.

Disappearing.

Returning again.

The rooftop.

The rain.

The feeling of loss.

She sat up suddenly.

"I need to understand this…" she whispered.

Her phone lay beside her.

Without thinking—

She picked it up.

"Are you awake?"

The reply came within seconds.

"Yes."

Mira exhaled softly.

"Good…" she whispered.

Her fingers moved again.

"I think I remembered something else."

There was a pause.

Then—

"What?"

Mira closed her eyes.

Trying to hold onto the memory before it faded again.

"It wasn't from today… or ten years ago…" she typed slowly.

Three dots appeared.

"Then?"

Her breath became uneven.

"I think it was from another time."

Silence.

Then—

"Tell me."

Mira hesitated.

Because this one felt different.

Stronger.

Clearer.

Like it wasn't just a flash.

Like it had actually happened.

Her fingers trembled slightly.

"We were talking…"

The reply came.

"Where?"

She paused.

Then typed—

"Not the café."

A second message—

"Not the rooftop."

Another pause.

"It was somewhere else."

The typing dots appeared.

Then—

"What kind of place?"

Mira's chest tightened.

She tried to see it again.

And suddenly—

The memory came back.

Clear.

A quiet room.

Soft light.

A window beside them.

She was sitting close to him.

Closer than ever before.

Her heart skipped.

"It felt… calm," she whispered.

Her fingers typed—

"A room."

Another message—

"We were sitting together."

The reply came quickly.

"Doing what?"

Mira swallowed.

Because this part felt… personal.

Too personal.

But she still typed it.

"Talking."

A pause.

Then—

"About what?"

Her heart started racing again.

Because she remembered the words.

Not all of them.

But enough.

Her fingers moved slowly.

"About us."

Silence.

The typing dots didn't appear immediately.

Then finally—

"What about us?"

Mira's chest tightened.

Her eyes filled slightly.

Because the memory didn't feel happy.

It felt heavy.

Like something was ending.

Her fingers trembled.

"I was asking you something."

The reply came.

"What?"

Mira took a deep breath.

Then typed the words that echoed in her mind.

"I asked if you would stay."

The typing dots appeared instantly.

Then—

"And what did I say?"

Mira's heart broke a little.

Because she remembered that too.

Her voice came out softly.

"You didn't answer right away…" she whispered.

Her fingers typed—

"You stayed quiet."

A pause.

Then—

"Then?"

Her eyes closed.

The memory becoming stronger.

More real.

More painful.

"Then you said…"

She hesitated.

Her chest tightening.

Then finally—

"You said you couldn't."

Silence.

Long.

Heavy.

The typing dots appeared.

Stopped.

Appeared again.

Then—

"Mira…"

Her heart skipped.

"I don't remember that."

The words hit her harder than she expected.

Her fingers froze.

Because that confirmed it.

This memory—

Was only hers.

Her voice came out in a whisper.

"I know…"

She typed it.

"I know."

A pause.

Then she added—

"That's why it's scary."

Her breathing became uneven.

Because if he didn't remember—

Then what she saw wasn't shared.

Not like the dreams.

Not like the rooftop.

This was different.

This was something only she carried.

Her phone buzzed again.

"Are you sure it's real?"

Mira stared at the message.

Was she sure?

It felt real.

Too real.

The emotions.

The silence.

The pain.

Those couldn't be imagined.

Her fingers moved slowly.

"It didn't feel like a dream."

Another message appeared.

"Then what was it?"

Mira's heart pounded.

Because now—

She knew the answer.

Her hands trembled as she typed—

"I think it's the ending."

Silence filled the room again.

Because that meant—

She hadn't just seen a memory.

She had seen something that hadn't happened yet.

Or maybe—

Something that had already happened…

In another life.

Her phone buzzed again.

"Mira."

"Yes?"

His next message made her chest tighten painfully.

"If that's the ending…"

A pause.

Then—

"Then this time… we have to change it."

Mira closed her eyes.

Her heart racing.

Because for the first time—

They weren't just remembering.

They were trying to fight it.

To change something that had already happened.

Her voice came out softly.

"Can we really change it…" she whispered.

Her fingers typed the same question.

"Can we?"

This time—

His reply came without hesitation.

"We have to."

Because if they didn't—

Then everything they were feeling…

Everything they were remembering…

Would lead to the same ending.

Again.

And again.

And again.
