My room was pretty much the same as I had left it last week when I had been abducted so abruptly. The man in the black suit was only after me afterall. "It's weird." I say. "That no one has messed with my things while I was gone..." I look at a drawer near my makeshift bed couch and it seemed like someone had attempted to open it. "or they want to make it seem that way..." I approach the drawer and sure enough, the opening mechanism had been activated.
One of my many joys in life has been manga. There was no better way to spend time at the orphanage other than watch anime, especially while skipping the boring etiquitte classes. In my boredom after leaving the orphanage, I had makeshift a contraption I had seen in my favorite manga. My eyes darkened at the thought of someone having taken my limited edition autographed copy. Getting closer to the drawer, I disabled the contraption and to my horror, it was gone.
Sensing my anguish, Josh calmly asked, "what's wrong? anything missing?"
Turning to see him, I made an anguished expression as I exclaimed, "THEY TOOK MY COPY OF DEATH NOTE!"
Relaxed but annoyed he response, "That's all they took? A book? Why are you acting so upset over something so childish?"
I gave him a side eye. He can be so cold. He is right though, compared to the important classified government level information in my care, my book is hardly important. But it was, to me. I huffed and made my way to the window. Hidden in a fake brick in the window, I had kept a secret USB drive. It was what I had actually come back for. Taking the USB drive, I put the brick back in it's place and gesture to Josh. "Ok, let's go."
Looking around, Josh asks," What about your things? Anything you want to take?'
"No, not really. Throw them out if you want to."
But then I remembered I had to deactivate all the other traps. With a sigh, I tell him to wait downstairs. Josh did not want to but when I told him it was to change, he waited outside the door.
I quickly changed and in that time, I hurriedly deactivated all the traps I had set in place and with my phone-like device, I sent an electronic burst to the devices within my apartment. Any and all information would be backed up on my server and erased from the devices themselves.
Catching a glimpse of my self in the mirror I realized I needed to change. It took a little longer than I expected, but I found a set of clean clothes to change into after having fallen onto mud and dirt earlier.
Sure enough, Josh knocked and asked what was taking to long. Taking the opportunity, I smirk and climb out the window, down the fire escape and to him car. Deactivating any tracker on it, I take off. Josh's call came in almost immediately, probably having realized I was not at the apartment anymore.
"Where are you?"
"You don't mind if I borrow the car right?"
"What?"
"Yes, thank you, love yaaa Joshhh"
"Wait! Where are y---"
Whoever had broken into my apartment had missed a camera when they altered the rest. I know who took my manga and I will go get it.
