The real mastermind
Sophia couldn't stop staring at the photograph.
Emma stood under a streetlight wearing the same outfit from the night she disappeared. Beside her was a tall figure hidden beneath a black hoodie.
But something about the person felt familiar.
Too familiar.
The bell rang loudly through Westbridge High, snapping Sophia back to reality. Students rushed through the hallways whispering about Tyler's arrest and the police investigation.
Everyone looked scared.
Nobody knew who to trust anymore.
Sophia quickly slipped the photo into her backpack and headed toward class. But halfway down the hallway, she noticed something strange.
Teachers were deleting posters from the walls.
Police officers stood outside the principal's office.
And Mr. Brooks' classroom was completely empty.
Gone.
Like he had never existed.
—
Lunch period felt tense.
Usually the cafeteria buzzed with gossip and laughter, but today it sounded like a funeral.
Jason sat across from Sophia looking exhausted.
"They searched Tyler's house this morning," he whispered.
Sophia lowered her voice. "Did they find Emma?"
Jason shook his head.
"No."
Chloe suddenly appeared beside them carrying her phone tightly.
"You guys need to see this."
She placed the phone on the table.
A new anonymous post had appeared on the school confession page.
WESTBRIDGE TRUTH ACCOUNT:"The wrong person was arrested."
Sophia's stomach twisted.
Below the message was another photo.
This time, the hooded figure stood closer to Emma.
And unlike before…
Part of their face was visible.
Jason leaned closer.
Then his eyes widened.
"No way."
Sophia felt cold all over.
The person in the hoodie was Principal Alden.
—
That evening, Sophia couldn't focus on anything.
Rain tapped softly against her bedroom window while the photo sat on her desk like a warning.
Principal Alden had worked at Westbridge High for nearly twenty years. Strict. Respected. Powerful.
Why would he be meeting secretly with Emma?
And why hide it?
Sophia grabbed her jacket.
She needed answers.
—
Westbridge High looked terrifying at night.
Dark hallways stretched endlessly while security lights flickered overhead.
Sophia quietly slipped through the back entrance Tyler once showed her weeks ago.
The school felt… wrong.
Too quiet.
She carefully made her way toward the administration office when suddenly—
Footsteps.
Sophia quickly ducked behind a row of lockers.
Someone was inside the building.
The footsteps grew closer.
Slow.
Calm.
Then a voice echoed through the hallway.
"I knew you'd come."
Sophia froze.
Principal Alden stepped into the light.
He looked perfectly calm.
Almost expecting her.
"You're smarter than the others," he said quietly.
Sophia backed away slowly. "Where's Emma?"
Principal Alden smiled faintly.
"Safe."
"You're lying."
"No," he replied. "I protected her."
Sophia frowned in confusion.
"That doesn't make sense."
Alden sighed heavily and sat on a nearby desk.
"You think Tyler was dangerous?" he asked. "You have no idea what his brother was involved in."
Sophia stayed silent.
"Emma came to me months ago," Alden continued. "She showed me recordings, messages, names of students being manipulated and threatened."
"The guidance counselor…"
Alden nodded slowly.
"But exposing him publicly would destroy this school. Parents. Students. Teachers. Lives would collapse overnight."
Sophia stared at him angrily. "So you covered it up?"
"No," he snapped suddenly. "I tried to stop it quietly."
For the first time, he looked nervous.
"She refused," he whispered. "Emma wanted revenge."
Sophia remembered Emma's blackmail files.
The threats.
The manipulation.
Maybe Emma wasn't completely innocent either.
Then Alden said something terrifying.
"She started enjoying the power."
The hallway went silent.
"Emma realized secrets gave her control," he continued. "And once people fear you… they obey."
Sophia's heartbeat quickened.
"What are you saying?"
Alden looked directly into her eyes.
"I'm saying Emma became more dangerous than the people she exposed."
Suddenly—
A loud crash echoed downstairs.
Both of them jumped.
Another crash followed.
Then the school speakers suddenly turned on by themselves.
Static filled the building.
And then—
Emma's voice.
"Good evening, Westbridge High."
Sophia's blood ran cold.
The lights began flickering violently.
"One of you betrayed me," Emma said through the speakers calmly. "So tonight… everybody learns the truth."
Computer screens across the hallway suddenly switched on automatically.
Videos began playing everywhere.
Secret recordings.
Students cheating.
Teachers arguing.
Private confessions.
Fights.
Threats.
Scandals.
The entire school's secrets were being exposed live.
Sophia looked horrified.
"She hacked the school system," Alden whispered.
Emma's laughter echoed through the speakers.
"You all wanted drama," she said softly. "Now watch your perfect little school burn."
Then the final video appeared on every screen.
Sophia's face.
Recorded secretly.
Talking to police.
Reporting Tyler.
Someone had been watching HER too.
A new message appeared beneath the video:
"YOU'RE NEXT."
And suddenly—
Every light in the school went black.
