The next day.
Upon waking, Rhode habitually pulled out his phone and scrolled through some videos. He noticed that the footage of the explosions in Kuoh's city center had vanished completely. Even his browsing history from the previous night was wiped clean.
The local feed was now filled with abstract short videos and daily vlogs of locals shopping downtown. He even saw a familiar maid—the one who had given him the devil flyer—live-streaming a dance in the middle of the city square.
Is that girl Rias's familiar?
Rhode recalled her face. He couldn't help but marvel at the Underworld's efficiency. Kuoh had been so badly damaged last night, yet it had been restored in a single night. He could only sigh at how the Devils had mastered magic to such a refined degree. Not only could they create one-to-one mirror dimensions of reality, but they could also use magic to repair buildings perfectly.
He remembered that in the original story, Rias used Underworld technology to renovate the protagonist's house. From the outside, it remained an ordinary two-story home, but the interior was indistinguishable from a castle.
As he finished his ruminations, Rhode felt the weight in his arms shift. Likely due to the light of the phone, Lavinia slowly opened her eyes. The loose shirt she had been wearing on her upper body was gone. Her skin, reflecting the sunlight peeking through the curtains, was so pale it was almost blinding. A few faint red marks on her chest had yet to fade. Her long, straight blonde hair was draped beneath her like a shimmering blanket.
Her clear blue eyes met Rhode's for a split second before she shyly looked away, her limbs fidgeting restlessly.
"...Yesterday was my first time. I feel so embarrassed thinking about it."
Though she was usually airheaded, after what Rhode had done to her last night, no amount of denseness could keep her as composed as usual.
"It's fine. You'll get used to it after a few more times," Rhode said with a light chuckle, pinching the tip of her nose.
While Lavinia hadn't resisted last night, they had reached their limit given her condition.
"Once your period is over, I'll teach you some other things."
Lavinia didn't answer. But sometimes, silence was the best answer.
Rhode left the room alone while Lavinia stayed behind to clean up in the bathroom.
An enticing aroma drifted from the living room. The Fallen Angel trio was as diligent as ever, having woken up early to prepare a meal tailored to everyone's tastes. Kuroka, in her cat form, was sprawled on the windowsill, lazily soaking up the sun. Asia was staring out the window, lost in thought.
"Mr. Rhode, you're up?" Sensing the movement behind her, the little nun turned around and greeted him happily.
Kuroka looked up, let out a massive yawn, and then went back to her nap.
"What are you looking at, Asia?" Rhode asked, sitting on the nearby sofa.
"Nothing much. I was just watching the people outside. They're all wearing the same clothes—are they going somewhere? Miss Akeno and Koneko wear the same thing, too," Asia asked.
"It's about time for school."
"School?"
"Mhm. Boys and girls their age need to go to school to learn."
"So it's school..." Asia murmured, her eyes never leaving the crowd outside. Her delicate face held a look of hope and a trace of envy.
Rhode remembered that Asia had grown up in the Church and had never set foot in a proper school.
"If you want to go to school, Asia, I can pull some strings."
"Eh? Really? No... forget it. I don't want to trouble you, Mr. Rhode. I'm actually quite happy as I am." Asia's initial excitement quickly turned into a sensible shake of her head. She was already grateful to be taken in by him; she didn't dare ask for more.
"It's no trouble. Since you want to go, give it a try. If you can't adjust, you can always drop out."
Hearing Rhode's words, Asia felt her heart skip a beat. "Will you be coming with me, Mr. Rhode?"
"I've had enough of school for several lifetimes, so I'll pass."
Rhode had transmigrated from a man in his twenties to a younger body. Making him repeat high school was a fate worse than fighting a Devil King.
"I recall you're on good terms with Koneko. I'll have her accompany you. As for the enrollment, I'll let Rias handle it."
Rhode had no hesitation in giving them tasks. He had helped them so much; if they couldn't handle a small thing like school enrollment, then he had clearly befriended the wrong people.
Rhode quickly called Akeno. After explaining the situation, she immediately agreed.
"Mr. Rhode, Koneko and I might not be able to come for training for a few days. You know the reason," Akeno said, her tone full of apology.
"I understand."
"That's great. Also, once things settle down, Rias might want to invite you to dinner. Would you be available?"
"Sure." Rhode had no reason to turn down a free meal.
After hanging up, Rhode shared the good news with Asia.
"Thank you!" The girl's face lit up with joy, her gratitude toward Rhode deepening even further. At the same time, she began to wonder if there was anything she could do to repay him.
But when she thought of Lavinia, Asia felt a bit discouraged. Developmental differences due to age were a real hurdle. She hadn't cared before, but after living with Rhode for so long, she couldn't help but notice.
However, Asia quickly regained her composure. She wasn't jealous of Lavinia; she just didn't know how to return the kindness of the man who treated her so well. Moreover, she was quickly becoming excited about her upcoming school life.
A short while later, a freshly showered Lavinia came downstairs in a new dress. The blonde girl in the light blue one-piece dress caught Asia's eye. Her slender limbs were pale and graceful. Though the dress was simple, it brought out her charm perfectly. Combined with her curvaceous figure, it added a distinct touch of womanly allure.
Even as a girl herself, Asia had to admit that Lavinia was stunning. She looked like a princess stepped out of an oil painting.
The black cat, Kuroka, looked up at Lavinia, her pink nose twitching a few times. She seemed to catch a faint scent of pheromones in the air. The scent caused Kuroka's body to react strangely, making her look toward Rhode with an increasingly odd and burning gaze.
