"How should I prove that I've dealt with them?" Mohg asked, looking at Rellana.
"It's simple. Bring me the knight's medal from their leader, that Cuckoo Knight. Or any item that can serve as proof of identity."
"Fine."
Mohg nodded and turned to leave, but Rellana blocked his path at the door. He shot her a questioning look.
"Are you planning to go after them without any equipment?" Rellana asked, looking at him with an exasperated expression.
Mohg had a moment of realization. In the eyes of Rellana and the others, he currently possessed nothing for combat except a common glintstone staff. For a warrior, that was hardly enough to get by.
"Then I'll have to trouble you, Lady Rellana."
"Mm. What weapon do you require?" Rellana nodded slightly, waiting for his answer.
Mohg thought for a moment before replying, "A Greatsword. Two-handed."
"Very well. I'll have one prepared for you, along with a set of armor. It will take some time to get these things ready. Return to your quarters for now; someone will come to fetch you when everything is set."
Mohg nodded, offering no further words as he left the classroom.
Once Mohg was gone, Reruss couldn't hold back any longer. "Princess Rellana, you shouldn't have sent him on this task. He should stay here to continue his magical studies. He could provide immense help to the development of the Royal Family's sorcery..."
"Enough, Professor Reruss," Rellana said, shaking her head. "As he said himself, his heart is that of a warrior, not a mage. He won't choose that path."
She looked at the professor. "Even if we force him down this road, he won't put his soul into it. In the end, we wouldn't gain a Grandmaster; we'd just lose a good warrior. It's better to let nature take its course."
"I... I understand." Reruss let out a long sigh, finally accepting reality. "Then I shall return to my research. If you need anything else, My Lady, just let me know."
"Thank you for your hard work." Rellana nodded in appreciation.
Mohg hadn't been back in his quarters for long when there was a knock at the door. He opened it to find a Carian soldier standing there.
"Lord Gwyn, Lady Rellana has instructed me to bring you over."
"Right. Much obliged."
"Just doing my duty."
Mohg followed the soldier to a room within the Academy where his new armor and weapon were waiting. To be honest, he was somewhat surprised when he saw the gear. Not only was it sized perfectly for his build, but it was a set of Carian-style knight armor rather than standard-issue equipment.
The armor was primarily silver, adorned with the intricate patterns of the Carian Royal Family and paired with a deep blue cape. The full-face helmet was shaped somewhat like the Winged Serpent Helm he remembered from the game, but with a blue glintstone peak at the top and different engraving.
Even the Greatsword provided was high-quality, featuring a large blue gemstone embedded in the hilt. This didn't look like something meant for a common recruit.
"Is this... really for me?"
The Carian soldier nodded stiffly, clearly confused himself as to why Rellana was being so generous.
Mohg didn't know the reason either, but he wasn't about to turn down free loot. He donned the armor and found it remarkably comfortable, though he could tell it had been tailored for someone else. This was clearly a set belonging to someone from the past.
Rellana entered the room just as he finished fitting the pieces. A spark of admiration flashed in her eyes.
"As I thought. From the moment I first saw you, I felt you'd suit Rigyes's armor."
"Rigyes?"
"Yes. A fallen Carian Knight. His weapon of choice was a spear."
"I can use a spear as well," Mohg added.
Rellana blinked, then let out a laugh. "Has anyone ever told you that you're quite good at pushing your luck?"
"I prefer to think of it as looking out for my own interests," Mohg replied, standing straight and solemn.
"Finish this mission, and I'll give you his weapon when you return."
"Is that a promise?"
"A promise."
Mohg smiled, though he finally asked why she was giving him the gear of a fallen knight.
"I'm not entirely sure myself," Rellana mused. "Perhaps I just don't want these treasures to gather dust. One must have the right build for Rigyes's suit, and one must have the strength to back it up."
"You have that much faith in my strength?" Mohg was genuinely curious. He had never shown his full power to her—only his physical might and a few basic techniques.
"A warrior with a physique like yours is never weak. Looking at the Academy alone, I doubt many professors would be a match for you."
Mohg didn't offer an explanation, choosing instead to look down at the Greatsword in his hand. Seeing he wasn't in a talkative mood, Rellana changed the subject.
"Let us go, my knight."
"Uh... how?" Mohg looked confusedly at the spot Rellana was pointing to—there was nothing there but a solid wall.
"Oh, I forgot." Rellana tapped her forehead, then gave a wave of her hand. In an instant, the wall before Mohg dissolved into starlight and vanished.
Behind it stood an inactive warp gate.
"A portal?"
"Yes. Place your hand on it. I will activate it for you this once, and it will take you directly to the border of the Lake District."
"Understood."
Mohg placed his hand on the gate. As a surge of mana rose from Rellana, a blue light flooded the portal. Mohg felt the world spin around him. When he opened his eyes again, he was in the middle of a forest. Nearby stood a small wooden shack, clearly a waypoint for those teleporting to this location.
After scouting the area and confirming his coordinates, Mohg immediately began contacting his subordinates.
Are you kidding? A tiny Cuckoo squad wasn't worth his personal effort (metaphorical lean back). His men could handle that easily. He was going to use this time to do something else.
Since he was close to the border, he might as well check out the situation in Limgrave and get a firsthand update on Huluofu's progress.
