The banging against the door grew louder.
Violent now.
Not law enforcement.
Not patient.
Camille's pulse hammered wildly as Dante pulled her behind him instinctively.
Every trace of warmth from minutes ago had disappeared from his expression.
Now he looked exactly like the man people feared.
Cold.
Focused.
Dangerous.
Elena checked the security monitor mounted beside the hallway wall.
Her face hardened immediately.
"There are at least eight of them."
Victor's voice crackled through Dante's phone.
"I hacked the building cameras. Correction twelve. Two came through the underground garage."
Camille's stomach tightened.
"How did they find us this quickly?"
"Money," Elena answered simply. "Money finds everything."
Another slam hit the door hard enough to shake the frame.
One of the men outside shouted again.
"Open the door!"
Dante's hand settled against Camille's lower back firmly.
Grounding her.
Protecting her.
"Is there another exit?" she asked quickly.
