Dave exhaled, surveying the battlefield of light, molten metal, and Omniscient threads. Each node he had manipulated had produced results, subtle but critical: constructs realigned, pathways opened, and the first ripple of the octopus's entanglement was under his control.
The System chimed suddenly, the alert tone cutting sharply through the oppressive heat and chaos.

Simon whispered softly.

Ava stepped closer, her eyes wide.
"…Dave, these new abilities—they give you a clearer understanding of the constructs' intentions. You can shape the next cascade before it begins."
David nodded.
"…and now the octopus's lust, while still dangerous, can be redirected more effectively. You can anticipate its pull on the nodes in advance."
Dave flexed his hands, feeling the subtle threads of influence extend farther, connecting multiple nodes across the ocean simultaneously. "…exactly. We've gained leverage. The first ripple controlled the cascade. Now, we can shape multiple layers at once."
Jack muttered under his breath.
"…I don't even want to imagine what XP really stands for here."
Simon whispered again, almost reverently.
"…the Reader's understanding deepens. Every decision now compounds. The more experience you gain, the more control over the Unwritten Layer."
The octopus hovered above the grid, tentacles circling, energy radiating from every node it touched. But now, Dave could anticipate its every movement before it fully unfolded. He nudged a tentacle along a carefully calibrated path. The construct responded exactly as predicted, coiling along the trail of influence and leaving space for a secondary node to be claimed.
Ava's voice broke through the comms.
"…it worked! The cascade is responding to your adjustments."
David added calmly, "…and now you can plan two moves ahead. Three if you stretch the Omniscient threads."
Jack groaned again. "…oh, I do love these planetary chess games. Remind me again why we didn't just stay home?"
Dave ignored him, eyes fixed on the octopus and the constructs. He extended a second thread, adjusting a distant node, nudging a construct into alignment, and watching the secondary ripple propagate across the grid.
Simon whispered softly.
"…experience gained is power, Reader. Not brute force, but control. Every ripple is now multiplied. Every entanglement can now be anticipated and directed."
Dave exhaled. "…good. One ripple is under control. The cascade can now be shaped. And the octopus? Its lust can be used against it."
Above the molten Iron Ocean, the sentence in the sky flickered faintly:
"Experience recognized. Influence expanded."
Jack groaned one final time.
"…can someone please explain why leveling up has to feel like imminent planetary annihilation?"
Dave smirked faintly. "…because, Jack, the stakes are exactly that high."
The octopus shifted slightly, tentacles undulating, following threads of influence now partially controlled by the Reader. The first layer of entanglement was complete.
And with the System granting new abilities, the divergence cascade was about to enter a far more complex phase.
