ELARA
I woke up with a start. I frowned as I glanced around. It was as though someone had been in the room with me. Not just anyone but Draven.
I shook off the idea, given how that has never happened before. I felt an unexplainable warmth running through my body.
The night was too quiet. I lay in bed, restless, in silence. Then, I felt it. Something was wrong. My instincts screamed it. The calm didn't feel peaceful; it felt like the kind of stillness that came before a storm.
Then a loud howl caused me to jump. Deep and guttural. Followed by the violent crash of bodies. My heightened senses made it possi-ble to hear.
I shot upright, heart hammering. No. Not again.
Images from my past hit me hard. My old pack. The way rogues had torn through it, fast and brutal. That same dread surged through me now, sharp and choking.
