Chapter 12 - 12.The Southern Bride

The Southern Bride

Autumn winds swept across the fields surrounding Greywatch.

Caravans moved along the repaired southern trade road, guarded by Goldenheart soldiers.

What had once been a dangerous frontier was now a corridor of prosperity.

Word had spread across the northern territories of the Westonia Empire.

The exiled prince was no longer merely surviving.

He was building something.

And now another alliance was arriving.

Arrival from Southvale

At midday, a procession of wagons and riders approached Greywatch's gates.

Their banners bore the golden wheat emblem of House Garrick.

The southern grain lords.

Roland observed from the gate tower.

"So the southern lord has agreed," he muttered.

Below, Sidharth stood waiting.

A carriage door opened.

A young woman stepped down.

Lady Helena Garrick.

Unlike the refined elegance of Marisella or the sharp confidence of Seraphine, Helena carried a softer presence.

Yet her eyes moved carefully across the keep.

Observant.

Measuring.

She bowed gracefully.

"My lord Goldenheart."

Sidharth inclined his head.

"Welcome to Greywatch."

The Grain Alliance

Inside the council hall, negotiations were brief.

Lord Garrick had already agreed to the terms.

Marriage between Sidharth and Helena.

In exchange:

• Southvale grain supply guaranteed for Goldenheart territories

• Reduced taxation for southern farmers

• Military protection from frontier raids

Helena read the contract calmly.

"You already knew my father would agree," she said quietly.

Sidharth did not deny it.

"Your lands rely on safe trade routes."

"And you control them," she replied.

Their eyes met.

"You are very confident for someone surrounded by ambitious women," Helena added.

Sidharth almost smiled.

The Court Reacts

News of the new marriage spread quickly through Greywatch.

Seraphine laughed openly.

"So now he conquers farmland as well."

Marisella remained composed.

"Food feeds armies."

Evelyne, however, studied Helena carefully.

"She is quieter than the others."

Rosamund nodded.

"Quiet people observe more."

The harem had grown into something more complex than simple rivalry.

Each woman represented a strategic pillar of power.

Marisella — Imperial connection.

Seraphine — Iron and military.

Helena — Grain and agriculture.

Evelyne — Logistics and distribution.

Rosamund — Trade and treasury.

Elira — Political intelligence.

Goldenheart's court was beginning to resemble a miniature empire.

The Wedding

The ceremony was held in the courtyard beneath Greywatch's rebuilt towers.

Soldiers stood in formation.

Nobles from the eight controlled territories attended.

Helena's voice was calm during the vows.

"I join my house with yours."

Sidharth answered simply.

"Then your people will prosper under my protection."

The crowd cheered.

Not loudly.

But with growing confidence.

The Goldenheart domain was no longer fragile.

Private Conversation

Later that evening, Helena stood beside him in the castle gardens.

Moonlight reflected across the stone pathways.

"You are building something larger than your title allows," she said softly.

"Yes."

"And you expect the Emperor to ignore this?"

"No."

She turned toward him.

"Then why continue?"

Sidharth looked north toward the distant capital of the Westonia Empire.

"Because when the Empire weakens… someone must already be strong."

Helena studied him carefully.

"You intend to become that someone."

He did not answer.

But silence was enough.

Far away in the capital, Prince Adrian Valemont studied the latest report again.

The prince spoke quietly to his advisor.

"He builds a kingdom without declaring one."

The advisor asked nervously,

"What will you do, Your Highness?"

Adrian smiled faintly.

"For now… we watch."
