The Prince Who Watches
Far away in the capital city of the Westonia Empire, whispers had turned into reports.
Prince Adrian Valemont, second son of the Emperor, stood beside a long marble balcony overlooking the imperial gardens.
A messenger knelt before him.
"Your Highness… new confirmation from the northern frontier."
Adrian did not turn.
"Speak."
"The Warden of the Northern March has secured Ardent Vale."
Now the prince slowly looked back.
"The iron mines as well?"
"Yes, Your Highness."
"And how was this accomplished?"
"A political marriage with Lady Seraphine of Ardent Vale."
Silence stretched across the chamber.
Finally Adrian laughed softly.
"So the exile grows clever."
The Growing Power of Greywatch
The reports continued.
"Goldenheart now influences eight territories."
"His army exceeds four thousand soldiers."
"He reorganizes taxes, trade, and supply chains."
The prince's advisor frowned.
"If he continues expanding at this rate… the northern frontier may become independent in all but name."
Adrian waved the concern away.
"He is still useful."
"Useful?" the advisor asked.
"Very."
Adrian picked up a map of the Angeliana Continent.
"The northern frontier has been unstable for decades."
"If Goldenheart stabilizes it…"
"…then the Empire grows stronger."
The advisor hesitated.
"And if he grows stronger than the Empire?"
Adrian's smile slowly faded.
"Then we cut him down."
Life in Greywatch
Back in Greywatch, the court had changed.
The halls were fuller.
The barracks louder.
The markets growing.
Merchants from three provinces now traveled safely through Goldenheart territory.
Prosperity had begun to follow conquest.
A Quiet Dinner
That evening, Sidharth sat with Marisella and Seraphine in a private dining chamber.
The tension between them had become noticeable.
Seraphine leaned back in her chair.
"You conquer territories the way generals conquer battlefields."
Marisella calmly sipped her wine.
"And you marry them the way merchants acquire mines."
Seraphine smirked.
"At least iron builds armies."
Marisella replied softly,
"And politics prevents wars."
Sidharth watched both women quietly.
Two very different strengths.
Capital diplomacy.
Frontier steel.
Both necessary.
Evelyne's Proposal
Later that night, Lady Evelyne requested a private audience.
"My lord," she began carefully, "the southern grain lords grow nervous."
"Because of our expansion?" he asked.
"Yes."
"They fear being conquered next."
Sidharth leaned against the map table.
"Fear is useful."
"Sometimes," Evelyne replied.
"But fear also creates alliances."
She pointed at the map.
"Instead of invading them… offer marriage."
Sidharth looked at her thoughtfully.
"Explain."
"Lord Garrick of Southvale has two daughters."
"If one joins your court, the region becomes politically tied to you."
"No siege required."
Sidharth smiled faintly.
"You think like a ruler."
Evelyne lowered her gaze slightly.
"I think like someone who intends to remain useful."
Military Expansion Continues
[Daily Login – Day 25]
Reward:
300 Infantry
120 Crossbowmen
Unlock: Cavalry Saddle Improvements
Training intensified across the northern territories.
The army now approached five thousand soldiers.
But unlike most frontier forces, Goldenheart's army was organized into permanent units.
Command structure.
Supply divisions.
Iron equipment from Ardent Vale.
A professional force was emerging.
A Subtle Move
Instead of launching a new invasion, Sidharth sent envoys south.
Not soldiers.
Not threats.
Marriage proposals.
Within two weeks, the response arrived.
Lord Garrick of Southvale agreed to send his eldest daughter to Greywatch.
The southern grain region had chosen diplomacy.
Another territory drifting into Goldenheart's orbit.
That evening, Seraphine stood beside him on the balcony.
"You conquer without drawing swords," she observed.
"Sometimes."
"And when swords are required?"
Sidharth looked across the distant northern hills.
"Then we use iron."
The fires of Ardent Vale burned brightly in the distance.
Iron for armies.
Grain for soldiers.
Marriage for alliances.
The foundation of conquest was being built carefully.
And somewhere in the capital of the Westonia Empire…
Prince Adrian had begun watching.
