Chapter 27 - 27. The Voice In The Abyss

Daimyo's laughter echoed through the battlefield as he easily broke free from Kai's genjutsu. The dark illusion shattered like fragile glass, and Kai staggered backward, his vision blurring. His chest heaved as he tried to remain standing, but his chakra was nearly depleted. His body trembled, his limbs heavy with exhaustion, but his spirit refused to yield.

Ryuji, despite his injuries, clenched his fists. Blood dripped from his lips as he forced himself to rise. His ribs screamed in pain, but he ignored it. His eyes flared with determination. "I won't give up!" he roared, forming a hand seal.

Suddenly, a burst of smoke filled the battlefield. Shadow Clone Jutsu!

Ten clones of Ryuji surrounded Daimyo, moving swiftly in perfect synchronization. They attacked from every angle, their fists and weapons aiming for any opening they could find.

Daimyo scoffed, a look of utter boredom crossing his face. "Same old, stupid jutsu," he muttered.

With terrifying speed, Daimyo grabbed Ryuji's arm before he could react. His grip was like an iron vice. With a single motion, Daimyo flung Ryuji into the barrier once more. The impact was bone-crushing. Blood spewed from Ryuji's mouth, painting the ground in crimson. His body convulsed from the sheer force of the attack.

Daimyo's monstrous sword gleamed under the dim light. He stepped forward, his shadow towering over Ryuji's battered body. This was the end.

Kai's Desperate Intervention

Kai's heart pounded in his chest. He could barely stand, his legs wobbly and his body refusing to move. But as Daimyo lifted his sword for the final strike, something inside Kai snapped.

No! I won't let him die!

With the last ounce of his strength, Kai lunged forward. The next moment, his body slammed into Ryuji, pushing him out of harm's way just as Daimyo's sword came down.

A cold, menacing voice filled the air. "So, you saved your friend," Daimyo sneered. "But now, my playing time is over. I'll finish you instead."

Before Kai could react, Daimyo swung his massive blade—not the sharp edge, but the blunt side.

CRACK!

The impact sent Kai flying. His body twisted violently in the air before crashing against the barrier. The force shook the entire battlefield. A sickening snap echoed as Kai's ribs shattered on impact.

Blood poured from his mouth, his nose, and even his eyes. His chakra reserves were completely drained. His vision blurred, fading in and out as excruciating pain surged through his body.

Ryuji lay motionless, unconscious.

The Outside Battlefield

Beyond the barrier, the others had been watching in horror.

Kenshiro's eyes widened. "No… Kai…"

Aiko's face turned pale as she clutched her trembling hands to her chest. "This can't be happening…"

Sienna, Jasper, and the others dashed towards the barrier, but before they could even reach it, Daimyo performed a swift Clone Jutsu.

Five identical Daimyo clones emerged, stepping through the battlefield like ghosts.

Without hesitation, they attacked.

Sienna barely dodged a vicious kick, rolling backward and drawing her weapon. Jasper intercepted another clone, twisting its arm before delivering a lethal strike—only for the clone to counter with inhuman strength, forcing him back.

Kenshiro leapt into the fray, blocking an incoming strike from a clone's sword, but the sheer force nearly broke his stance. Aiko, still frozen in fear, clutched her kunai tightly as she watched the chaos unfold.

The battlefield became a warzone.

A Painful Conversation

Inside the barrier, Ryuji stirred. His entire body was numb, but when he turned his head, his eyes widened in horror.

Kai lay beside him, his body utterly broken, his breaths shallow.

With a pained grunt, Ryuji crawled toward Kai, dragging his battered form. His fingers trembled as he grabbed Kai's arm. "Why…?" His voice was weak, barely a whisper. "Why did you save me…?"

Kai's lips curled into a faint, weak smirk. His voice was shaky, each word coming out as a struggle.

"...It was just… an instant reaction."

His bloody eyes turned towards Ryuji. Despite his pain, a mischievous grin tugged at his lips.

"Besides…" he whispered. "Your face… looks like a joker."

And with that, Kai's body went limp. His consciousness faded into darkness.

Daimyo stood tall, his cold, unfeeling eyes locked onto Ryuji's trembling form. The battlefield was littered with blood and debris, but his expression remained indifferent. With a slow, menacing stride, he approached the fallen Ryuji, who was struggling to move.

Kai lay motionless beside him, his breathing faint—his life hanging by a thread.

Daimyo sneered. "Your friend is no more. Now, it's your turn to die."

Ryuji's fingers curled into a fist. His entire body screamed in agony, but his mind burned with an unrelenting fire. His vision blurred, but Daimyo's arrogant face was still clear in his sights.

I won't die here.

With a roar, Ryuji threw a punch aimed straight at Daimyo's face. His fist surged forward with everything he had left.

But Daimyo was faster.

Before Ryuji could even register what had happened, Daimyo caught his fist effortlessly. His grip was like steel, his strength monstrous. Then, with a swift, brutal motion, Daimyo twisted Ryuji's arm in the wrong direction.

A sickening CRACK echoed through the battlefield.

"AAAAARRRGHHH!!" Ryuji screamed in sheer agony as unbearable pain shot through his body. His vision turned white for a second, and his knees buckled. But Daimyo wasn't done.

With inhuman force, Daimyo lifted Ryuji off the ground and slammed him down like a ragdoll. The impact sent shockwaves rippling through the battlefield as Ryuji's body bounced and rolled across the ground, finally coming to a stop.

The taste of blood filled his mouth. His limbs felt numb. His broken arm throbbed, barely responding to his will. His breathing was ragged, and his consciousness wavered.

Outside the Barrier—A War of Desperation

Meanwhile, outside the barrier, the battle raged on.

Serena, Jasper, Sienna, Kenshiro, and Aiko were locked in a desperate struggle against Daimyo's five clones. Each clone possessed monstrous strength, easily overpowering the group.

Serena dodged a razor-sharp kunai, countering with a flurry of rapid strikes, but the clone blocked every attack effortlessly. Jasper barely avoided a devastating kick, landing a brutal punch in return—only for the clone to grin and retaliate with twice the force.

Sienna fought fiercely, her eyes blazing with determination. She clashed kunai with her opponent, sparks flying from the sheer impact. But deep down, she knew—they were being overwhelmed.

Kenshiro and Aiko, side by side, struggled against their own opponents. The clones fought with inhuman precision, their strikes calculated and merciless.

And inside the barrier… Ryuji was fading.

The Descent Into Darkness

Lying there, his vision darkening, Ryuji felt his life slipping away.

Is this how I die?

He closed his eyes slowly, his broken body unable to fight any longer. His mind drifted away from the battlefield…

And when he opened his eyes again, he was somewhere else.

The Abyss: Meeting the Monster Within

A dark void.

Ryuji found himself lying on a pitch-black surface. The ground beneath him was strange—not solid, not liquid. A thick, dark substance coated the floor, its texture shifting and moving like a living thing. It was cold. Unnatural.

He stood up slowly, his wounds and broken bones no longer affecting him here. As he looked ahead, his breath hitched.

Towering massive black pillars stretched high into the sky, vanishing into the darkness above. The air was heavy, suffocating. Something was here.

On the other side of the pillars, the space beyond was pure void—so dark, it felt like it could swallow everything.

Then, a voice.

"You are weak."

Ryuji's blood ran cold.

It was deep, guttural, monstrous. It rumbled through the void, shaking the very ground he stood on.

Then, again, the voice spoke, whispering like a predator circling its prey.

"You want power, don't you?"

Ryuji stepped back, his heartbeat pounding in his ears. The air grew heavier. The darkness beyond the cage stirred.

"Become a monster. Kill everyone."

A sudden, chilling wind rushed past him. The air turned thick with an ominous energy.

Then—it appeared.

From the darkness behind the massive pillars, a shadowy entity began to emerge.

Its eyes. Glowing. Malicious. Consuming.

A presence so vast, so ancient, that it felt like the void itself had gained consciousness.

Suddenly, from the cage, dark black-violet chakra surged forward.

The energy twisted and coiled, slithering like living tendrils. It swirled around Ryuji, moving like a storm, wrapping around his arms, his legs, his torso.

His entire body was engulfed.

The chakra felt cold, yet scorching—as if it was trying to devour him. His veins burned as the overwhelming power flooded into him.

Ryuji clenched his fists, his body trembling violently.

Then, the voice screamed.

"ACCEPT ME!!"

Ryuji threw his head back, his mouth opening in an ear-piercing SCREAM.

The dark-violet chakra exploded around him, engulfing everything in its path. The void trembled.

Something had awakened.
