Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 – The Illusion Weaver

_______________

Reality didn't shatter this time.

It layered.

The ancient facility remained visible—

But something else overlapped it.

Shadows stretched longer than they should.

The walls bent slightly.

The glowing runes flickered in patterns that didn't make sense.

Velkira stood calmly at the center of it all.

Her presence wasn't overwhelming like Arman's.

But it was far more suffocating.

Because nothing could be trusted.

"…Now we begin properly," she said softly.

Izumi tightened his grip on his sword.

"…Everyone stay close."

Dianara shook her head immediately.

"No."

She stepped forward slightly.

"That's what she wants."

Velkira smiled.

"Very good."

Mira clicked her tongue.

"…I hate smart enemies."

Seraphina raised her blade.

"Explain."

Dianara spoke quickly.

"Her illusions aren't just visual."

"They interfere with perception itself."

"Sight, sound… even direction."

Izumi frowned.

"…So we can't rely on anything?"

"Not completely."

Dianara's eyes sharpened.

"But there's a limit."

Velkira tilted her head.

"Oh?"

Dianara pointed toward her.

"You still need a reference point."

"A center."

"The caster."

Velkira's smile widened slightly.

"…You're dangerous."

Mira grinned.

"So we just hit you."

"Simple."

Velkira raised a finger.

The shadows moved.

Instantly—

Three identical versions of her appeared.

Then five.

Then ten.

All standing in different positions.

"All of me are real."

"Or none of me are."

Mira sighed.

"…Of course."

First Engagement

Izumi moved first.

He dashed forward—

Targeting the closest Velkira.

His blade swung.

SLASH.

It passed through.

Illusion.

Another version attacked from the side.

A sharp blade of shadow formed in its hand.

Izumi barely blocked.

CLANG.

"…That one's real?!"

Dianara shouted—

"Some are solid constructs!"

"Not just illusions!"

Mira jumped into the fray.

"Good."

She spun mid-air.

"More targets."

Her daggers flashed.

One illusion shattered.

Another blocked.

A third attacked from behind.

Mira twisted—

Barely avoiding the strike.

"…Okay, that's annoying."

Distortion Increases

The ground shifted.

Suddenly—

The distance between them stretched.

Izumi tried to move toward Mira—

But she seemed farther away than before.

"…What?!"

Velkira's voice echoed—

"Space is such a fragile concept."

Seraphina stepped forward.

Her aura expanding again.

Golden light pushed outward.

"Hold your positions!"

The light stabilized part of the area.

The distortions slowed.

But didn't disappear.

Velkira watched with interest.

"…Your will is strong."

"But not enough."

She snapped her fingers.

The illusions moved in perfect coordination.

Attacking from all directions.

Team Adaptation

Dianara raised her staff.

"Listen carefully!"

Her voice cut through the chaos.

"Stop relying on your eyes!"

Izumi froze for a split second.

"…What?"

"Feel the mana!"

"Only the real one has a true mana flow!"

Mira smirked.

"Now that's better."

She closed her eyes for a moment.

Then moved.

Faster.

Sharper.

One illusion—

Gone.

Second—

Gone.

Third—

She stopped.

"…Found you."

She turned sharply—

But the figure vanished.

"…Tch."

Velkira chuckled.

"Close."

Izumi's Growth

Izumi steadied himself.

He closed his eyes.

For a moment—

Everything went dark.

Then—

He felt it.

The cold.

The flow of energy.

Different from the illusions.

"…There."

He opened his eyes.

A faint trace.

A distortion in the mana.

He moved.

Fast.

His blade struck—

CLANG.

Blocked.

Velkira stood in front of him.

Her real body.

For the first time.

"…Impressive."

Izumi pushed forward.

"You're not untouchable."

Velkira smiled.

"No."

She stepped back.

"But you are predictable."

The space around him twisted.

Suddenly—

Multiple copies of Izumi appeared.

All attacking at once.

Izumi's eyes widened.

"…What—"

He blocked one.

Then another.

But couldn't keep up.

He was struck—

And thrown back.

BOOM.

Pressure Builds

Seraphina stepped in again.

Her blade cut through several illusions.

Golden light flared.

"Stay focused!"

Mira landed beside Izumi.

"…You okay?"

Izumi nodded.

"…Yeah."

He stood again.

More steady this time.

"I get it now."

Dianara looked at him.

"…What?"

Izumi's eyes sharpened.

"She's not just hiding."

"She's controlling our reactions."

Velkira's smile deepened.

"…Very good."

Izumi raised his sword.

Cold energy gathered—

But this time—

It didn't spread wildly.

It stayed contained.

Controlled.

"Then I just stop reacting."

End Build-Up

The battlefield slowed.

Not physically—

But mentally.

Izumi's movements became sharper.

Cleaner.

He moved again.

Straight toward Velkira.

Ignoring the illusions.

Ignoring the distortions.

Velkira's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Now this is interesting."

The real fight had begun.

Izumi stopped thinking.

Not completely—

But enough.

The shifting walls, the flickering shadows, the endless copies—

He ignored them.

Instead—

He focused on one thing.

The flow.

The faint, steady pulse of real mana hidden beneath the chaos.

"There…"

His voice was quiet.

But certain.

Velkira watched him approach.

Her smile didn't fade—

But her eyes sharpened.

"…So you've adapted."

Izumi didn't answer.

He moved.

Straight through the illusions.

One tried to block him—

He cut through it without hesitation.

Another attacked from behind—

He didn't turn.

Didn't react.

The strike passed through him like air.

Not real.

His instincts were shifting.

Learning.

Mira watched from the side, grinning.

"…Now that's more like it."

She disappeared into the shadows again.

This time—

Not chasing blindly.

She moved with purpose.

Following Izumi's path.

Trusting it.

"Don't mess this up," she muttered.

Velkira raised her hand.

The illusion field intensified.

The entire room twisted violently.

The floor tilted.

The ceiling warped.

Even the direction of gravity seemed to shift.

"You think understanding is enough?" she said softly.

"Let's see how far that takes you."

Dozens of illusions appeared again.

But this time—

Each one carried a stronger presence.

Sharper.

Closer to real.

Dianara's eyes widened.

"…She's increasing density."

Seraphina stepped forward.

Her aura expanded again.

Golden light pushed outward.

Stronger than before.

"Then we break it."

She raised her blade.

Light gathered rapidly.

The space around her began to stabilize.

Cracks of gold spread across the distorted reality.

Velkira glanced at her.

"…Persistent."

Seraphina didn't stop.

"Divine Pulse."

She struck the ground.

BOOM.

A wave of radiant energy burst outward.

The illusions flickered.

Some shattered instantly.

Others weakened.

The distortions slowed.

Not gone—

But broken enough.

Izumi used that moment.

He accelerated.

Closing the distance.

Velkira stepped back slightly.

"…You're learning too quickly."

Izumi spoke for the first time.

"You're relying on control."

His eyes locked onto her.

"So I'll break it."

He raised his blade.

Cold energy gathered—

But this time—

Perfectly contained.

No wild spread.

No loss of control.

Just power.

Focused.

Sharp.

Mira appeared beside him.

"Finally."

Her daggers glowed.

"Let's finish this."

They moved together.

Izumi struck first.

A direct attack.

Velkira blocked—

But Mira followed instantly.

Her blades cutting from a blind angle.

Velkira twisted—

Barely avoiding it.

Her illusions moved to assist—

But Seraphina stepped in.

Her blade cut through them.

Clearing the space.

Dianara raised her staff.

"Now!"

Izumi stepped forward.

One final push.

The illusions around him tried to reform—

But he ignored them.

His focus didn't break.

He reached her.

Velkira's expression changed slightly.

Not fear—

But acknowledgment.

"…So this is your answer."

Izumi swung.

"Glacial Sever."

The blade cut through the space itself.

Velkira raised her hand—

A barrier of illusion formed—

CRACK.

It shattered.

The strike landed.

A direct hit.

Collapse of the Domain

The moment the attack connected—

The illusion field broke.

Like glass.

Shattering outward.

The distorted space collapsed.

The facility returned fully.

Walls.

Floor.

Reality.

Everything snapped back.

Velkira staggered slightly.

For the first time—

She was visibly affected.

Mira smirked.

"…That's new."

Seraphina stepped forward.

Blade ready.

"It's over."

Velkira straightened slowly.

Her smile returned.

Faint.

"…No."

She raised her hand.

But—

Paused.

The platform beneath them pulsed violently.

The runes flared.

Brighter than before.

Dianara turned instantly.

"…No—"

"The system is reacting!"

Lior cried out.

The fragment glowed wildly.

Stronger than ever.

The facility trembled.

Deep below—

Something responded.

Velkira looked down.

Then smiled again.

"…I see."

She stepped back.

A portal of shifting shadows formed behind her.

"This was… productive."

Mira frowned.

"You're leaving?"

Velkira nodded slightly.

"For now."

Her eyes moved to Izumi.

"…You're dangerous."

Then to Lior.

"…And valuable."

She stepped into the portal.

"But next time…"

Her voice echoed—

"…you won't break free so easily."

She vanished.

Aftermath

Silence returned.

But not peace.

The platform continued glowing.

Unstable.

Dianara rushed forward.

"…This isn't good."

Izumi looked at her.

"What's happening now?"

Her voice was tense.

"The system is accelerating."

Seraphina stepped closer.

"…Because of the fragment?"

"Yes."

Dianara nodded.

"And the interference from both Arman and Velkira…"

She looked toward the deeper levels.

"…something has changed."

Lior stepped back.

The fragment floated higher.

"I can feel it…"

Izumi's expression hardened.

"…The thing below."

Lior nodded slowly.

"…It's waking up."

Final Scene

Far beneath Nerathis—

The sealed darkness trembled.

Cracks spread further across the ancient barrier.

The massive presence stirred again.

This time—

Not just slightly.

It .
