Chapter 98 - The King's Decree

The Hall of Crowns was silent.

Rows upon rows of ancient crowns rested upon crystal pedestals.

No gold had tarnished.

No silver had faded.

Time itself seemed to respect this place.

---

Artyom walked slowly through the hall.

Each crown was different.

Some were forged from silver.

Others from black steel.

A few were decorated with white gemstones that shimmered beneath the Sanctuary's light.

Above every pedestal was a single name.

Kings.

Queens.

Guardians.

The rulers of the First Family.

---

Viktor stopped beside one of the displays.

"So many generations..."

Caelum nodded.

"They ruled for centuries before choosing to disappear."

---

Yelena examined the carvings beneath a crown.

"They weren't conquerors."

Lucien smiled faintly.

"No."

"They were protectors."

---

At the center of the hall stood the largest pedestal.

Unlike the others...

It was empty.

---

Artyom frowned.

"Where is its crown?"

---

Before anyone could answer...

The floor beneath the pedestal began to glow.

Ancient runes spread outward in perfect circles.

The air grew warm.

---

A calm voice echoed through the hall.

"Blood confirmed."

"Identity confirmed."

"Successor recognized."

---

Every crown in the room emitted a soft silver light.

One by one...

They lowered slightly.

As though bowing.

---

Dmitri stared in amazement.

"They're responding to him."

---

Roman remained silent.

Watching Artyom carefully.

---

From the ceiling, a crystal prism descended.

Inside it rested a simple silver ring.

No jewels.

No decoration.

Only the symbol of the First Family engraved upon it.

---

Caelum's eyes widened.

"The King's Seal..."

---

Artyom looked at it uncertainly.

"I don't understand."

---

"It is not a weapon," Caelum said.

"It is a promise."

---

"The ruler of the First Family never ruled through fear."

"He ruled by accepting responsibility for every life under his protection."

---

The crystal opened.

The ring floated gently toward Artyom.

It stopped in front of him.

Waiting.

---

Artyom hesitated.

"I never asked for any of this."

---

Elara's gentle voice echoed through the hall.

"No child ever asks to inherit the burdens of their parents."

"But they choose what kind of future to build."

---

Viktor stepped beside Artyom.

"You don't have to carry it alone."

---

Artyom looked at him.

Then at Roman.

At Yelena.

Mikhail.

Dmitri.

Nikola.

Valentin.

Lucien.

Caelum.

For the first time...

He realized he was no longer standing by himself.

---

He slowly reached out.

The moment his fingers touched the ring...

It slipped onto his hand perfectly.

A pulse of silver light spread through the hall.

The ancient symbols across the walls glowed brightly.

Far beneath the Sanctuary...

Massive stone mechanisms shifted once more.

---

Dmitri glanced at the map projected from the Sanctuary's core.

"A new chamber has opened."

---

Nikola checked the route leading downward.

"Looks like the path was locked until now."

---

Caelum nodded.

"The King's Seal unlocks only for the rightful successor."

---

Roman looked toward the newly opened passage.

"Then that's where we're going next."

The group gathered before the descending staircase, its ancient steps disappearing into the light below. The Sanctuary was revealing another of its long-hidden secrets.
