Vincent called Dominic into his study and told him that someone else would be handling the New Jersey territories going forward. Just like that. No explanation. No discussion. Just a removal of authority that was supposed to be Dominic's path to the throne.


"Because I'm evaluating your capabilities," Vincent said without looking up from his documents. "I'm testing whether you're ready for increased responsibility. These changes are temporary."


Dominic wanted to believe that. Wanted to believe that his father was just assessing him. But something in Vincent's voice said otherwise. Something in the way his father wouldn't meet his eyes said that this wasn't a test. This was a sentence being carried out slowly.


Over the next three days, three more operations were reassigned. All of them going to Marcus. All of them taken from Dominic without explanation.
