The morning didn't break with an argument; it broke with the soft rustle of expensive fabric. Jay stirred as the first grey light hit the gold accents of the room. Roman was already by the dresser, his movements methodical as he tucked a few essentials into a leather carry-on. The "Stone King" was back, but his eyes were softer when he caught Jay watching him.
"I got a call from headquarters," Roman said, his voice low, vibrating in the quiet room. "There's a situation that needs me there in person. I have to go."
Jay didn't snap. He didn't demand. He just sat up, the silk robe slipping off one shoulder, and looked at the suitcase. "Going alone? Is it that important?"
"It's just work, Jay," Roman replied, walking over to the bed. He sat on the edge, his weight dipping the mattress. "I'll call as soon as I land. And I'll be back tomorrow. It's a quick trip."
