Immediately, Garos responded to the behemoth's roar with decisive action.
The golden lightning retracted into his body. With a powerful flap of his wings, crimson qi surged forth as he dove at breakneck speed, tearing through the torrential rain. The downpour exploded into rings of white mist around his wingtips, instantly vaporized by the intense heat.
His explosive scales, already glowing red-hot from the earlier lightning strikes, now burned like molten iron from the friction of his high-speed descent through the wind and rain.
As Garos plummeted earthward, a swirling trail of crimson flames and white steam billowed behind him. When he was still hundreds of meters above the ground, he shuddered violently, launching a barrage of explosive scales. The projectiles streaked through the rain-soaked air, leaving dense, searing trails that converged on the frost behemoth.
The frost behemoth roared skyward, crossing its massive arms to shield its head. In an instant, a three-meter-thick armor of ice crystals materialized around its fur.
The moment the explosive scales struck the ice armor, a chain reaction of detonations transformed the surrounding hundreds of meters into a sea of fire. Shockwaves hurled earth and rock like artillery shells, shattering the rocky peaks of several nearby hills.
The behemoth staggered backward, its ice armor shattered into fragments and its white fur scorched black.
Some broken scales pierced its skin, embedding themselves in its flesh.
"Its defenses are inferior to those of a diamond giant," Garos concluded.
The wounded behemoth roared in fury, its massive, muscular arms bulging with veins. It slammed its fists into the ground, tearing out a twenty-meter-long, ice-encrusted rock pillar and hurling it skyward.
The red-iron dragon sharply flapped its right wing, twisting its body to the side as the pillar grazed its jaw.
Whoosh!
The frost behemoth exhaled a freezing breath colder than minus one hundred degrees Celsius from between its fangs. The ice-type damage posed a slight threat to Garos; while his ice resistance was trained, it remained weaker than his other elemental defenses.
But it has to hit me first.
The red-iron dragon angled its left wing downward, executing a sharp, nearly ninety-degree turn in mid-air to evade the freezing breath. It effortlessly circled behind the frost behemoth.
He unleashed a torrent of flaming dragon breath.
The fiery stream solidified into a pillar of flame, surging toward the frost behemoth's back.
Garos remained wary of ice-type damage.
Similarly, the frost behemoth was unwilling to directly withstand his fire dragon breath.
Sensing the heat behind it, the frost behemoth abruptly collapsed forward, tucking its limbs tightly against its torso like a rolling ball. It tumbled across the ground with surprising agility, allowing Garos's dragon breath to merely graze its flank without inflicting significant damage.
The clash of flames and frost filled the area with swirling steam.
When the frost behemoth rose to its full height, it found no dragonkind in the sky.
The danger came from below.
It lowered its massive head and saw the red-iron dragon skimming the ground, hurtling toward it at breakneck speed.
The frost behemoth slammed its long, ground-sweeping arm into the earth. A dense thicket of ice spikes erupted from the ground, each one aimed at Garos.
Most of the spikes couldn't keep up with Garos's speed and were easily evaded. A few were shattered by his left claw. In the next instant, he pierced through the icy forest, his qi surging behind his wings for a sudden burst of acceleration. With a sweeping arc, his dragon wing slashed at the behemoth's ankle.
Roar!
The behemoth let out a low growl, its arm layered with ice armor. Dropping to all fours like a giant ape, it braced its arm against the dragon wing's razor-sharp edge.
Clang! Rip!
First came the metallic clang of metal striking metal, followed by the tearing sound of flesh being torn open.
The ice armor failed to completely deflect Garos's lethal wing slash, leaving a deep gash. However, due to the behemoth's immense size and the armor's ability to weaken the blow, the wound didn't reach the bone.
The giant beast roared in pain and retaliated with a backhanded swipe.
Ice-crystal claws grazed the dragon's back.
Crack!
Explosive scales absorbed the kinetic energy, shattering into a torrent of searing flames. The behemoth's arm shuddered violently, its fur flying in disarray.
Garos, however, merely trembled, using the explosive force to propel himself even faster across the behemoth's massive body.
Flame Claw!
Flames as dense as molten rock enveloped Garos's claws, searing across the behemoth's kneecap and tearing away a chunk of flesh, muscle, and sinew.
The behemoth staggered and collapsed to its knees, giving Garos the opportunity to pounce onto its back.
Dragon fangs clamped down on the ice-covered nape of the behemoth's neck, while foreclaws tore through the frozen hide, exposing blue-white muscle beneath. Wings slashed like guillotines, unleashing a relentless storm of attacks.
The behemoth roared in fury and rolled violently.
Its massive, icy body crushed the red-iron dragon into the frozen ground, embedding it like a stone in the hardened earth. Simultaneously, it raised its colossal, corded arms, clenching its fists into hammer-like blows aimed at Garos.
Thick ice crystals sprouted across the behemoth's arms, resembling glacial formations bearing down.
Garos had just risen to his feet when he looked up to see the colossal fist descending, nearly blotting out the sky.
He snarled, wings beating with surging qi, and raised his dragon claw to meet the behemoth's crushing blow.
Boom!
The ground shattered in layers, collapsing under the force.
The shockwave rippled outward, sending rainwater surging like tidal waves.
The behemoth's terrifying power surged through Garos's claw and into his body.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Each explosive scale absorbed kinetic energy before detonating violently. Using the force of the explosions, Garos swung his wings with renewed ferocity, forcibly pushing aside the behemoth's crushing fist. He soared back into the air, even flipping the behemoth onto its back, sending tremors through the ground.
But Garos paid a price.
The remaining explosive scales on his body shattered in the clash, revealing obsidian-black, steel-hard scales intricately patterned with crimson veins.
Raindrops shattered against the black-and-red dragon shadow, vaporizing into steam before they could even slide off his heated scales.
Through the swirling mist, the colossal black-and-red dragon loomed, its backward-sweeping horns, jagged spines, thick, sharp fangs, and dense, crimson-veined scales gleaming like dark, heavy armor—a red dragon of unparalleled might.
Seeing this, the frost behemoth felt no fear, only exhilaration.
Born as a living weapon, the behemoth possessed an innate combat instinct. From their earlier clash, it knew Garos had relied on those explosive scales to absorb its attacks.
Now, with that defensive layer gone, every strike would inflict direct damage.
Now the advantage is mine!
